huhuhu =) i votes 4558
waste money and time on opamp, when the source is going to be from 'somewhere' and the stock speakers cannot go 'there'
too much limitations on this set.
for fun's sake, just hit 'whatever' comes first =)

yeah single, and the powerbrick sucks brix

limitations, come in all forms, from the speaker itself to the soundcard....
it was no meant to be real hi-fi in the first place!

if you ask me,
=) just use whatever you have at hand and easy to get.

cosef has great ideas about opamps....and modding in detail =) he is the pro person to ask this part

Hi count me in
ACS45.1 here

stumbled upon this thread while trying to figure out how to replace the red connector 5 pin, male/female. Any hints where to buy this connector for the pcb or mod it oh altec gods smile.gif

you can purchase male and female ps2 connector from pasar road..... you just need to remove the pins that you don't need from the female and solder it to board

use solder iron, re-melt the solder (all)... when it is old. it dries up and cracks out leaving the part unconnected

congrats, now you just need to change the sub woofer cable to direct solder
if you don't change the sub speaker cable, there will be 'bass lag' mili seconds sound slow reach....

i'm no expert =) but i can try to help answer
ACS 45.1 obviously has more nice bass, blur because its old and doesn't have tweeters
has slightly nicer transformer,10000uf powerfilter

VS 4121 has tweeters(clearer) but doesn't sound as good as 45.1 because the new models are all cost cut versions...
has cheaper transformer,4700/6800uf powerfilter
user posted image
personally i have both, and i still prefer the 45.1 anyday =)

i just like to help help lor...
can't even help the poor guy with the atp3 cause i sold my set some time ago.
mx5021 can repair easily any electrical repair shop... usually they will tell you no parts for it....
mr Tai Roberto.Baggio from usj 1 is one of the known forumers here with many altec repair parts.
i only have upgrade parts

haha i went on holidays
altecs are real easy to repair with the electronic repair shop....
just the parts are pain in ass to find

it's hell alot more economical to send it to repair shop... prolly rm50 to 'join back the wires'

i'm just a modder/collector... i have some upgrade parts for sale occasionally but repairs are best left to the experts
