I have a Proton Saga (sedan, YR 1992) and have completed painting and refurbishing to ori status.
Now I have plan to install audio system in my car. I am plan to have; 1) Front - Mid Range + Tweeter RH & LH, (2) Rear - 8 inch Sub woofer + Tweeter RH & LH. This rear 8 inch woofer will be powered by Mono Amp and other all speakers powered with 4Ch Amp. Btw, i prefer to listen soft sentimental songs and slow rock or ballad songs. Further a digital cross over is added to harmonise on frequency setting.
Since i am new here, kindly please advise me weather the above set up would give me good clarity sound as desired.
For this setup, i put aside budget around 5k and not more. I hope this would give me clear and quality sound in the cabin.
To Crazychild,
Is that a problem to use 8" sub, i hope you could explain further to why i would not be satisfy with 8" sub. But, i think it should be ok, just to hear bass in the interior rather than having it in the trunk with banging thumps as the car passes by..... you know.
to create enough bass, you need a lot of power to move the air at a lower freq... the lower the freq, the more energy it needs to move them... so that is 8 " wont be enough to create this force... and thats why by the time you are done, you would wish you would go for a larger cone area...
unless of course... its the space you are worried about...
psst... big ass woofer doesnt mean your trunk lid would definitely be shaking like ah bengs... a lot of times, the problem with trunk lid shakes is improper tunings... same goes to rear view mirror shakes...

OK, i agree with you. But, i would prefer to have slow base (not hard) just to satisfy for listening to slow & sentimental songs to which i have personally seen a friend of mine (when i was working offshore) installed in his car. The sound i should say quite much pleasing without heavy "bassing" around. I think he might have done some tuning adjustment or other kind of means which i would not know.
Any positive solution, please advise. TQ.
Oh yes, to MyWifecar; I plan to install at the rear board (may be the rear board need to be modified with box hanging from the board which the board panels are pinned and glued together......I dunno weather we do such kind here in Malaysia)....Please advise.

Bro, rear board is kind of weird...why don't you just put it at the boot with a proper sizing box? It is cheaper and it is easier to design. Or you might want to do like what I did, by putting it in your glove compartment....since 8" is easier to mount and smaller.
BTW, which 8" are you going for?
Also, bro... 12" doesn't mean it definitely hard bass. I experienced a 12" that cannot produce hard bass, I mean difficult to produce.

drums!
cellos!
bass guitar! (really smooth! and you may not get that bass feel since it is outdoor and its a little "airy", but you get the idea if you're very familiar with music)
now to top it off, something that have a bit of all of the above to tingle your hearing senses!
effort.jpg for the youtubes as i am kinda cut off from the "mainstreams" LOL
now, unless ALL the songs you're listening are slow and sentimental and you dont give a crap about any kicks or the song to be lively, sure, 8" - 10" should be ok.
however, if you want to hit every damn note perfectly in your music, which also means those deep bass notes/frequencies, proper/good bass is most definitely needed
=edit= oops mistagged a video lol

So far i am in the search for 8" sub but i could not have one. So many shops i have attended, as i know, still could not purchase. Many installers, i spoke to, had advise me to use 12" and they don't have 8" sub.
But yet i am still searching........ do you have any idea where i could purchase one of these....pls advise.
How do you find installing 8" sub in glove box.....pls share your view..TQ

Thanks for the clips, bro. I have heard them all but sorry to say the music is too pact altogether especially the first clip and the last two clips.
The cellos - i believe this could take up by mid range, The drums - most of them with high notes (but not too high) could also take up by mid but the drummer's base (which can be seen beating at the feet) could take up by sub woofer which has the function to take up at much lower frequencies.
Similarly, i have done some surveying around that 12" and 8" subs have the same spec criterion (but i am still searching) which are: Freq: 50 - 2500Hz Sensitivity: 89 dB (1m/1w) Impd: 4 Ohm Coil: dual
If the above criterion suits, then i believe this could handle well but of course tunning is paramount asset to music/sound setup. This is just my idea judging from my ex colleague's car. I may think the setup could be difficult task for the installer but if anyone has the skill and willing to fine tune adequately for such setup i am in no harm to try it out.....

if you're going for 3way setup, then yes, you are probably correct. however for a 2 way setup where the mids and mid bass share the same output, you will have this dilemma: crossover freq too high you dont get enough bass, too low, you get your ICE clarity muddied.
and really, are you going to trust your ICE on some specs on paper, or you're going to trust your ears? again, if all you're listening is soft/sentimental classics, yeah, 8" is probably enough. however anything more than that, i personally (welp! personal opinions) dont think 8" is enough. AT LEAST also get a 10" and perhaps even get it ported.

Since you already have the spec of the sub....guess you also know what is the model of the 8", right? Mind to share? Monies wise, I still think that making a box is cheaper. 8", I think i saw Audison got some very nice one... But I think mainly are 10". If you serious want to try 10", try Realm.
The glove box thingy, is quite simple provided you have the space to do it.... You just need to consult your installer will do.
With RM5k of budget, u can have a decent setup in your car. Can a good HU, front 2way component set, sub and a 4cha amp+RCA. Leave out the rear speakers & component's crossover if possible. Get it set up and tune by a reliable source and enjoy ur soft music. Cheers!

How do u do it? Mind uploading some photos? And what brand and type? Cos I'm interested to have it somewhere there as well. One of the shops i went told me that it's doable under the glove compartment. Not too sure how it's done.

Picture ah... later la...
Since it is not easy to take out, and I do plan to change to another sub later on.
Due to space constraint, I can only fit in 10"... You will need to check what is the size that can be fitted into your car.
The sub in the trunk is still the best la, since you can measure the size of the box properly. The sub in the glove compartment will be hard and your sub might have problem perform to its max. So in this instance, I have to go for a very good 10" sub.

erickoh's setup from sgcaraudio.net
If some1 accidentally hit the bass, its time to say bye bye ... Especially without any grills to protect it n even wif grill, 1 miss kick can cause quite a considerable damage... Imagine wat a 6 inch heels would do to the guy down there

thanks bro for the input - but what type of good sub you are using? JL Audio. It was recommended to me by one installer. Said it's the best sub around.
