QUOTE
The ultimate all-in-one desktop now features quad-core processors, up to 3x faster graphics, Thunderbolt, and a FaceTime HD camera.

Added on May 3, 2011, 8:45 pmhttp://www.apple.com/asia/imac/performance.html

QUOTE
New Intel Core i5 and i7 processors.
Up to 1.7x faster at the core.
New quad-core Intel Core i5 processors are standard on the new iMac. Choose a 21.5-inch iMac with a 2.5GHz or 2.7GHz quad-core Intel Core i5. Or expand your view with a 27-inch iMac featuring a 2.7GHz or 3.1GHz quad-core Intel Core i5. You can even configure iMac with the fastest quad-core processor available — the Intel Core i7. All models use Intel’s recently refined chipsets. That means the new iMac performs nearly twice as fast as the previous generation,1 adding a new dimension of speed to everything you do. And since Mac OS X is designed to take advantage of each core, it captures every last bit of performance from the processor.

Turbo Boost 2.0.
Say you’re using a processor-intensive application like Aperture 3 or Final Cut Pro that benefits from extra power. Turbo Boost 2.0 automatically increases the speed of the active cores — up to 3.8GHz. And by shifting core frequency in small increments, Turbo Boost allows the processor to manage performance without sacrificing efficiency. All this takes place behind the scenes, so your work (or play) goes smoother and faster.

Faster single-chip microarchitecture.
Watching a movie, updating your blog, editing photos. Tasks like these require data to travel from place to place. The latest Intel Core architecture puts the processor, cache, memory controller and graphics engine on a single chip. Since data doesn’t have as far to travel, you get faster performance and greater efficiency.

Integrated memory controller.
With faster access to memory, each core gets right to work on your data, rather than waiting for it to arrive. That’s why Intel Core architecture uses an integrated memory controller to connect fast 1333MHz memory directly to the processor. Together with up to 8MB of shared L3 cache, that helps your applications run at peak performance.

it seems like the same as the MBP updates.
just thunderbolt and new processors.
for light users it doesn't make any difference, but for people in the studios it does a very big difference

enough with that PC mentality k... what can you expect from a form factor like that...? in fact i'm kinda surprise they can fit in a 6970m on an iMac, considering Apple's been very stingy about graphics...

I'm getting one as soon as I can configure it. With minimal price change and faster processor also people complain. People will never be satisfied.if not up to your expectation, then get something else., why criticize for the sake of it.

This option is available for 27" model since last year (2010) model. Second drive is smaller 2.5" drive connected to on board extra SATA connector.

But they are offering it on the next one. rclxms.gif I just made my online purchase, and sadly the acknowledgement email says deliver by 18-5-2011, but all throughout the transaction, it says 3 working days. Ah well, I've waited so long so what's another 2 weeks. mad.gif

Since Thunderbolt has stamped its presence in Apple's releases, I don't think there's be any glimpse of USB 3.0 anywhere soon.

Thats weird , mine just says "delivery by 18-5-11 by standard shipping" right below ships in 3 bussiness days, and my payment details went thru at 9.30am this morning. Last night I also tried but it keeps saying " this page is not found". I guess they were still updating the details ? hmm.gif

u got change to magic mouse to magic trackpad or custom order?

I got my delivery at 16/05, last nite order and i swap the magic mouse with magic trackpad instead. So i guess it's consider custom order and deliver date become longer.

Yup, I upgraded ram to 8gb. Everything else the same. Maybe that's why.

delivery n shipping is different. shipping is the point when the product ship from shenzhen to nearest distribution centre, in our case its singapore. delivery is the estimated time the item arrived at ur doorstep. doesn't matter where's ur location, shipping time is the point when the apple product ship away from it's factory.

Just curious if someone can help me out a bit. I'm looking at upgrading from a pc to a Mac and I'm looking at the 21.5 inch 2.5GHz. Is it worth upgrading to the 8gb ram. My main uses will be for photo and video editing and I'll probably be using aperture. I just want to know whether the 4gb will be sufficient to run aperture fairly smoothly?

they have made it easy for user to upgrade ram in imac since last model. the problem is some ram module will not work with apple product. but it still cheaper to uprade ram urself.

Nonsense, don't simply make statement if you are not sure. Upgrading iMac memory will only need to loosen up 1 philip screw and remove the memory cage cover. Pull the plastic tab, remove old RAMs, put in new RAMs, close the RAM cage cover.

Here's the fact:
iMac G3, flip over, 1 screw, open RAM cover.
iMac G4, 4 screws, remove bottom cover.
iMac G5, flip over, 3 screws, open back cover.
iMac G5 iSight, 2 screws, open RAM cover.
iMac CoreDuo-Core2Duo white, 2 screws, open RAM cover.
iMac Core2Duo-Core i alu, 1 screw open RAM cover.

They are not hard to upgrade RAM.

Here's the official spec page for 2010 iMac: http://support.apple.com/kb/SP588

Like I said on the other thread, no, it is difficult.
http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/iMac-Intel-...Teardown/5485/1

You will only get in to the HDD on steps 4, where you removed the glass panel, LCD panel.
There are risk breaking the glass, if not introduce dust and stain on both the glass and LCD. Which is not easy to clean. If you are not careful, you might damage other component or shocked by the PSU since they are next to each other.

External drives is cheap, if you want to expand your storage, point them external, in fact we do not suggest user to park everything inside the internal HDD. It's too risky. If you send your Mac to service, you going to expose all your datas to whoever doing your Mac. And there's no easy way to take the drive out unlike the 'Books.

I just switched to a Mac too, and I do fairly heavy photo editing on Lightroom. I got the 27" 2.7GHz with 4GB RAM, and the thing just processes my photos effortlessly. I switch a lot between Lightroom & Photoshop and I have never experienced any slowdowns/hang. Why don't you try using 4GB RAM first and if it is insufficient (especially as you mentioned using it for video editing) you can upgrade later.

24 hrs means that you'll get it within probably a week including shipping. If you customised your imac with some of the options, it will be considered as built to order and it take slightly more time. The quoted days in the item means that usually it will take that long for them to ship out from their warehouse or factory.

Be more specific what is "hot". Run temperature monitor app get the reading on various sensors. 35°C can be hot. 100°C also is hot.

I'm thinking bout getting an iMac 27" just cause it look so cool and I've read rave reviews bout it. But a friend told me I should wait for windows 8. Being not very computer savvy I need professional advice regarding this.

To assist you in contributing to this topic I provide you with the following information:

- my main usage for a desktop is for entertainment purpose. Eg. Watching movies, surfing the Internet, document work, online shopping lolz and a bit of gaming, I'm not a hardcore gamer. I like to play old school arcade game ^^

Also, I heard one of the drawbacks bout this iMac is that it doesn't have hdmi. What's hdmi?

I guess that would be all I need to know and I would love iMac users to comment on their purchase and experience with the product. Thanks smile.gif

Why buy a Mac when u want to run Windows? Just settle for normal PCs. If u can afford the 27", u have plenty of specs to choose from.

Mac OS is designed with one feature in mind, making everything simpler such that even baby boomers can use it.

With that being said, every product line offered by Apple has a very sleek and clean design. Take the iMac 27' for example, it's currently one of the best (if I'd say so myself) AIO desktop for home or professional. The large IPS screen offers a wide color gamut (spectrum) and viewing angle compared to conventional LCD technology. Well if you settle for PC there is always Dell U2711 (27") for it but iMac bundles everything together. The screen itself alone is already a good reason to purchase it.

I'd noticed that entertainment is one of the reason for your purchase. Well you won't be dissapointed with the gorgeous screen by iMac. The tradeoff is it's glossy. So put it in a well-lid room is a must. I can't stand glossy screen under strong sunlight XD

HDMI is a cable that is able to carry both video and audio signals. It is not a concern as iMac has its own Thunderbolt port, and is backward compatible with mini-Display port. You do, however, need to purchase a mini-DP to HDMI adapter if you'd like to connect the screen with other HDMI interface device.

I would say go for your purchase if your wallet allows. Else Windows works fine too.

Private.G have put much I wanted to say. You won't go wrong with the newly refreshed iMac. It's the fastest Mac so far, even a MacPro owner felt envy at certain aspect.

Things about IT is you should never waste time on waiting something that yet to come. By the time that particular product arrived or announce, the rumors for next gen started. So wait some more?? If you need it now, just get it. Enjoy it. I'm pretty sure the iMac can last few years for your need.

I've googled about heat issues with the new iMac and since the entire body is made of aluminum casing, it is expected that the body will get hot as it acts as a heat sink as well so as long as the inner components are okay then it should be fine ... my 2006 iMac is back to normal, must be because it knows I want to replace it after yesterday's lines ....

Ohh well, that's save me RM5000 which can go for a nice Omega Seamaster .... hmmmm choices choices.

Thanks for merging my thread. Anyways I'm actually in Australia and can't believe the iMacs here are a lot more expensive compare to Msia. It's like rm1500 more than Msia. So estatic when I got to know how much they were selling in Msia. XD

Added on June 20, 2011, 9:11 pmWrong calculation it's rm900 difference not rm1500 but still it's still a big reduction.

MeruChan dont worry about not having HDMI. u only need HDMI to send video to another display. there's already a freaking good display on the imac so i dont think u want to send the video out to anywhere else tongue.gif

rm900 difference is huge. sure it's the same model / spec?

if u buy an imac now u get to upgrade to OSX Lion for free. so far i dont see anything to get excited about windows8 :S

It's SAR7499 here in Saudi and that's about RM6000 ringgit which is 700 bucks more expensive than Malaysia. I might get it in Malaysia and bring it here. Is the warranty international or local?

Yes it's the same model! And the is a on promotion price, normally it is like rm1500 difference.

So excited! But I'm only going back to Msia in about 1-2 months time. Hopefully they still have the free upgrade.

I need to learn how to use Mac tho. Besides iPhone I've never used any Mac product except using my friends MacBook pro occasionally.

Hi all,

Im tempted to get the 27" Imac 3.2Ghz 2010 model at RM3,699? Do you think its worth it as 2011 models just released. I also want to connect it with PS3 and Xbox360. How do get a workaround or is there any? Thanks.

I bought a magic mouse last year and with my new iMac I am going with the magic trackpad. Don't know if it's better than the magic mouse but I'm sure I will get used to it soon.

I sold the mouse to get the trackpad. I am not comfortable with how the magic mouse motion. After getting the trackpad, i never regret my decision to change to trackpad.

I have a standard bluetooth mouse that will work on my MAC and Windows. So, in case that I really need mouse, I can still use my bluetooth mouse.
