just remember, once u put screen protector on your ipad, the adhesive from the SP can actually strip off the oleophobic coating on your ipad screen.

What is the function of oleophobic coating on the screen?

okay. without a screen protector, u can wipe of your smudges on the ipad quite easily with a lint free cloth(microfibre).

if u put the SP, and one day remove it, the oleophobic coating that makes it easy for u to wipe off all the smudges might be stripped off because of the SP adhesive.

u will find it harder to cuci the screen.

So you recommend we do not apply any SP at all? Or any other better solution available without wearing out the coating?

Depends on usage i think , still will get scratch but i think its not so easy. Even my blackbery screen serve me well without any SP , machines guys told me their ipad demo set has been there for 6 months , with over hundreds hand touching it everyday yet it is still scratchless. LOL

I quite agree on this, sometimes I find those cases, jackets, etc just spoil the industrial design of the device and destroy the handling experiences.

I scratch my camera screen once and I swear to myself that I'll put screen protector to it the first day I got it.

I have an ipad with screen protector on it, but the feeling with sp is not as great. I try my cousin iphone without sp and its so much better feeling. His iphone is naked since he bought it 2 years ago but no visible scratches at all and he is pretty rough user.

Some times i wonder do we really need sp to protect the screen? How long do you think an ipad will last? 5 years? 10 years? Why are we protecting it? So that its re-sale value is higher?

Yes, we might get a few scratches over its lifespan but is it worth putting a sp to protect it from a few scratches while sacrificing the better feeling all the time we use it( and yes we do use it a lot).

Just my humble toughts

i also prefer to use my ipad naked. i love its feel and the colour rendition without a sp. just the smart cover + a sleeve casing when not in use.

Agreed. After several experiences I am running my MacBook Pro 2010 model "naked" right now. Might as well enjoy it full while you can. There will be some nicks and scratches (very minor) which can be annoying, but in the long run I enjoy the true form factor of the product.

Running my iPad 2 naked as well with occasional smart cover, and just in Ozaki sleeve to carry it around/ put in bag. The iPad 2 screen is quite nice to the touch, smooth, oleophobic (just wipe with microfibre cloth no need to use spray).

Overall there might be nicks and scratches that accumulate, or worse case dents if you drop it. But enjoying it 100% as it was designed is something quite worthwhile. In a year or six months anyway there will be the next latest and greatest thing, iPhone 5, iPad 3, MacBook Air Sandy Bridge, etc. etc.

The glass is scratch-proof in the iPhone, iPad and MacBook Pro... So overall on my iPad 2 no problems. However I did get a tiny, tiny scratch on my MacBook Pro glass which I was like, where did this come from? Maybe some particle caught between the keyboard and the screen.

At the end of the day, after using many protectors etc, as I mention, I'll take the risk and enjoy the products as is.

But of course no stopping whoever from getting any accessories, etc. sometimes that is part of the fun.

Interesting info so I googled around for it. Looks like that is not entirely true. Someone actually ask Apple officially on this
