Dear sifus, good evening! notworthy.gif notworthy.gif
I was wondering whether you guys could recommend me a nice earphone (for laptop use) for a budget of RM100 (plus minus RM20)?
Not sure what I'm looking for, as long as it sounds nice and won't physically fall apart after a few months I'll be fine with it haha laugh.gif

Many thanks, your help is much appreciated!! notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

IEM: Hippo VB, Crossroads Dome, Hippo Ten, SoundMagic PL21, Fischer Audio Eterna, Fischer Audio Genesis....(These are ones that I can think of for now, with good bass and overall clarity).
Headphone: AKG K420, Fischer Audio FA-004(both are barely portable though).

IEM is those little things you stick inside your ears. Headphones are those big ones with big speakers pushed against your ears/over your ears.

The Aurvana is good, but for the price other options are available as well, and cheaper maybe if you know where to look. Like Sherwood SE777, SoundMAGIC PL50, both are single balanced armature drivers. Having read reviews of the Aurvana, and having owned the PL50, both should sound very similar, but the PL50 being cheaper(but to be fair, less accessorised).

Then there are the others in that price range(or maybe cheaper/slightly more expensive): Hippo VB, Klipsch S4, AKG K330, Hifiman RE0, CrossRoads Dome, CrossRoads Quattro, Crossroads Woody 2, Shure SE215, and also some that I listed.......and probably more.

At first I also believe that metal is great with bass. I tried them with a Radius DDM(very bass heavy with a quite treble). They sound great.....until I had gotten myself a Grado SR60i. It has a forward mids with a slightly heightened low treble. As a result, the distortions on electric guitars have never sounded so....right. Listening to the bass heavy DDM again, electric guitars came in just a little bit veiled, and too blunt or fat sounding. Bass was great but that was it. The SR60i can never come close in terms of bass compared to the DDM, but it has enough punch and speed to make things sound right. For me, with rock or metal the Grado/Alessandro sound is the answer. They're quite forgiving of the poor recording qualities but as well giving that energy it deserves.
Also another IEM that sounds better with metal than the DDM....SoundMAGIC PL50. tongue.gif The only drawback is the lesser amount of bass than the SR60i.

I have yet to find anything with the energetic Grado sound, but with that extra punch in bass. I still have a long way to go into finding it.
As for what you are looking for...if you weren't looking for closed cans I would've suggested the Alessandro MS1i, the tamer version of the Grado sound signature(which some complain can be a bit sibilant, that includes me). I would recommend this or any other with a similar sound sig.

That's my suggestion, but I'm sure people with more experience with other gears can give more suggestions, and the MS1i don't quite fit your criteria(being an open can and with a small sound stage).

Hi, please recommend me an ear bud (not ear canal) that's roughly as good as this Creative Sound Blaster World of Warcraft Wireless Headsett? To me it has good treble and bass, clear and solid sound overall. Of course I'm comparing with normal rm60 iFrogz ear phones la, never bought any high quality earphones before.

http://www.creative.com/soundblaster/world...et/welcome.aspx Costs $160

I listen to a lot of types of music (metal, folk, rock, soul, jazz, acoustic, traditional and many others). But very little club trance dubstep stuff. So I don't need super heavy bass.

The cheaper the better la. I'm trying to find out how much it will cost for me to get something that sounds similar. I don't need ear cancellation or volume control or anything extra.

I'll use it on my laptop and Ipod.

And 1 more question, can I know how good an earphone is by reading the specs? What should I look for?

Thank you

Why eh? it is slightly cheaper, but there aren't a lot of reviews for it online so i have no idea how the sound quality is like.
On the other hand the a-Jays 4 does have a few good reviews. How how?

Unlike the TMA-1, which is an audiophile grade DJ headphone, the AiAiAi is aimed at the masses. The specs and reviews says that the Pipes are only passable in terms of sound. For that price I tend to agree, but they sure are good looking though.
