I managed to narrow down the issue. The black border only happen when playback video from my DLNA media server. Local videos in SD card, USB HDD and internal HDD are working perfect. Menu button will bring up settings just like you mentioned. older models using same remote will bring up a full menu for video, soundtrack and subs options.

Seem like it is using different player as the UI is not same.
