hi guys, i need help with my q5 II firemware update. after it update it can't detect my 2TB HDD anymore. previously it can be detected. any ideas?
*
when u say "can't detect", u mean it does not show up in file manager?

does it show up in es file explorer?

can or cannot read another usb drive?

what firmware version u updated to?

did you update via online or usb drive?

if online, try to do a local update again with usb drive.

q5ii both emmc and non-emmc, now running on their respective frmwares versions 1.0.9.

yr last resort is to flash the unit with latest firmware but that will wipe all yr apps and data, need to reinstall everything. suggest u get help from yr seller first.

frankly, i doubt the device failed to read as it should read as long as you can start it up. more likely yr hdd is faulty - check that on another device or pc.

QUOTE(thingamagic @ Dec 13 2015, 05:48 PM)
Hi all, thinking of getting q5.... But is there really different models q5 ii and q5 iii and q5 iv ?

Is there difference?
*
q5 is a very old model... maybe 3 yrs old.

q5ii, emmc and non-emmc are also old >2yrs, not selling anymore.

q5iii, in dual or quad core, also not selling anymore, i think.

q5iv - another name for q5iii quad core.

these versions progress over time and improve on chipset android versions as well as flash memory size. newer chipsets come with newer android versions and more memory allows you to do more - 3D, 4K, hd audio, bigger and more apps storage, etc.

android: version 4.1 jellybean->4.4 kitkat->5 lollipop->6 marsh mallow
chip: dual core->quad core->octa core
memory: 1gb/4gb->2gb/8gb->2gb/16gb

the q series use hisilicon chipsets. i have used them, v good hardware. at the top is q16, a quadcore 16gb. no stock locally, i believe.

current model is a new series h8 octa: rockchip 5.1, octa core, 1gb/8gb and 2gb/16gb.

Is H600A II is Q3/5 model equivalent?
Any ways to make it able to install play store? With international firmware.

Thanks

i think it as old as and much like q5 - 1/4gb nand jellybean 4.x

but not as popular during its time.

if u already have int'l firmware, all you need is the right google patch for this model.

once u install it, you will get playstore, utube, google.

where to get, try yr old seller or other local sellers who may be able to help.

you probably won't find it on himedia or related sites - google is banned in china.

mango is now a legit iptv in china, of course you will get geoblocked. biggrin.gif
still, you can get some of the less popular lower grade stuff.

h7... think it is not sold locally.
if firmware same with h8 which is sold locally, you can check with local sellers or other users.

I see, that's the reason why I can't seem to access my MangoTV the other day - i'm using Q16. So the only way to watch it by using a China VPN? Don't think my unblock US works on it

if not mistaken, this device is 1gb/4gb nand, android 4.0.

it is quite "old"; androids are old if >1 yr, very old if >2yrs. tongue.gif

the problem is not kodi version but the small memory.

less the os and other apps, there maybe be insufficient space for kodi.

it can work, even with latest isengard, but won't be able to more than a few small addons.

buffering may become a problem too.

older devices during their time can deal with small apps. even older xbmc versions were much smaller.

today, all apps got much bigger, same with kodi and the addons.

i have a unit like that too, can't do kodi as kodi is the largest app you can install.

but works good with other smaller apps and usb playback.

currently, best to buy min 2gb/16gb emmc.

Hi,

I already have and still using 3x HiMedia player. The latest being Q6ii. But disappointedly, the Q6ii is lagging for playing back H265 contents at Full HD. It also failed to playback simple 4k video that recorded from my Samsung Note.

Thus now I am looking for a new player that can fulfill my requirement;

Mandatory
======
Able to playback 4k MP4 smoothly from Samsung Note.
Able to playback H265 contents smoothly at Full HD.
Must have digital coaxis output.
Capable to output at 4k / HDMI 2

Optional
=====
Need RJ45 gigabit LAN connection
Able to playback Canon dSLR recorded video at Full HD smoothly
Able to decode Dolby HD? Maybe impossible... hmm.gif
If no Wifi and no optical output even better... Those are hopeless. shakehead.gif

Questions
======
Which Bluetooth USB adapter is supported for the player? How about Q6ii? notworthy.gif

Just read a few pages back, few suggestions that meet your mandatory & optional requirements... Bluetooth USB adapter? Most boxes if not all, come with Bluetooth hardware installed. Difference would be what version.

I see... Here you go.... CSR USB Bluetooth Dongle. Alternatively, Lelong & Lazada. Take your pick.

IMO, the HiMedia H8 Octa Core with 2GB RAM & 16GB ROM should perform better, based on specs. However, this is just my opinion since I don't and haven't used the device myself. Not a guarantee it'll play all HEVC files smoothly.

Anyone else is using Q16?
Do you encounter overheat for it?

I realize that it the box itself is very hot when I on it.
After few hours, ( 3 to 5hours) the heat even transfer to the usb of the connected HardDisk/ Mouse....

How hot is hot? --> It's hot till you cannot hold the media box.

Seems scary har...

not to worry, it is normal... biggrin.gif

it does get hot on the box metal external - to dissipate the heat better!

just make sure it is not enclosed in a tight space.

with some ventilation there.

if u still feel bad, just get one of those rm10-20 mini fan, place it under the box, usb powered.

i have one of those, it never gets hot at all.
