get what your budget afford. neither of them is wrong anyway. =)
18-105 is a good kit lens so does 18-55.
they both work well. what matter most is reach.

yesterday did, shooting. with 50mm in indoor sort of studio but not studio (because the place is too narrow). damn!
50mm couldn't give enough space for the model. I end up using my friends 18-105. -.-'

The perspective will be 75mm perspectivs since I mounted it on my DX cam.
I am in love the actual 50mm range I suppose

it is greenish, too fake, but I like it very much.

it was 17mm. that's why I don't expect any bokeh from 17mm
