Heroez Think it this way. You can try to predict when Intel will release the Ivy Bridge verison of mobile processor. When it does, usually Alienware will release a refresh of its models, maybe in the forms of M11x-R4, M14x-R2, M17x-R4 and M18x-R2. It is purely my speculation, but you can take it as a rough guide as to when a new revision will be released.

QUOTE(putochip123 @ May 1 2011, 08:38 PM) Bad news for u guys. M18x not going to launch in malaysia Thus, for those who really desire M18x, can they make special order through Dell supervisors or managers? Surely, their laptops will be delivered much later, but their warranty is much secured, compared to if they buy M18x from oversea.

Thanks for the cold hard fact, putochip123. QUOTE(kira-kun @ May 1 2011, 11:34 PM) Now that sucks... you can always get from hidevolution.com If we purchase M18x from sources other than Dell Malaysia, it would be difficult for us to claim our warranty. Who would want to endure the difficulty of sending our laptop back to oversea for repair and waiting for it for weeks for it to be sent back? By the words of "special order", I do not mean cheaper price. I mean that Dell Malaysia could have catered to the demand of the very niche gaming community in Malaysia by providing them with M18x. Yes, M18x will not be available in Dell Malaysia website, but potential buyers can directly call Dell supervisors or managers to arrange special order for them. Yes, the price could be a lot more expensive than what it costs to order them from oversea, but at least they are secured by warranty from Dell Malaysia. It would not be a great hassle in claiming the warranty in the future. The point is that Dell Malaysia can charge more expensive price for the special order of M18x, but they cannot deny us the very right to own M18x. Well, those among us here who desire M18x can request GreaseMonkey90 to purchase M18x from Dell Canada on their behalf. In other words, they can choose to boycott Dell Malaysia by not buying M17x-R3. After the purchase is done, the M18x warranty can be transfered to Malaysia. In short, such way can make Dell South Asia, in particular Dell Malaysia, lose out any potential profit they can gain by ensuring the availability of M18x in Malaysia. Besides that, it will make them regret their very decision not to release M18x in Malaysia. Sorry for the harsh comment, guys. I just cannot help it, knowing that Dell Malaysia has denied us Malaysians the chance to easily own M18x. This post has been edited by alvinkhorfire: May 9 2011, 05:08 PM

@9satan9 You can purchase M18x through GreaseMonkey90 or Rowan23. However, as putochip123 emphasized, M18x is not covered by warranty in Malaysia. I do not suppose that you would wait for weeks just to send back your M18x to its original place of purchase for minor repair, except for huge issues. For that, you must have decent knowledge in troubleshooting issues that may be encountered by M18x on your own. It is tough, but what to do?
@putochip123 I understand your point that Dell is a corporate company with profit as its main consideration. Still, by not providing some feasible avenues for Malaysians to own M18x, Dell Malaysia does not fulfill its responsibility of attending to the need of the niche of gaming community in Malaysia. Yes, I agree with you that there are not many Malaysians who will purchase M18x and it is not profitable to sell M18x to them, but you cannot deny their existence, right?
Perhaps, Dell Malaysia can relay M18x orders from us to Dell from other countries who sells M18x. Yes, it takes a much longer time to have M18x from overseas shipped to us, and it costs a lot more money to purchase M18x. At least, such M18x orders are known by Dell Malaysia and it is official.
Okay, what I have just said is too idealistic, and it is not feasible, troublesome and profitable for Dell Malaysia. At least, it would be a kind gesture for Dell Malaysia to provide some official ways for us to own M18x, in a way that repay our loyalty in supporting their XPS and Alienware computers.
putochip123, for now, I just have to accept your cold hard fact unwillingly. Sigh.

GreaseMonkey90 Let's see how your M18x fare against Crysis 2 with both DirectX 11 Ultra Upgrade and High Resolution Texture Pack loaded. I do not think it should be a problem for your beloved gaming beast. If both add-on are to be loaded, a graphic card with 1.5 GB video memory is needed, way beyond what HD 5850 in M15x can provide. Sigh! This post has been edited by alvinkhorfire: Jun 30 2011, 04:56 PM

Has any M15x owner here attempted to change their video card to HD 6970M? julchin_09, perhaps? Yes, I realize that there is a dedicated thread in NotebookReview, but it may not be entirely applicable to us Malaysians. One problem may be that is it possible to obtain the card from Dell Malaysia? Most probably not, I guess. Any additional information on this matter is very much appreciated. Edit: Thanks to Lil Kiasu for pointing out my mistake. This post has been edited by alvinkhorfire: Jul 5 2011, 11:01 PM

@kelvin_hata Regarding the mobile video cards you are selling, are they directly sourced from Dell, or you bought them from online traders like eBay, for example? Thanks for the information.

@julchin_09 Sadly, M15x does not support Sandybridge processors. _____ Guys, I want to know about the Windows 7 installation DVD. For those who received the Windows 7 (no SP1) DVD with their notebook, can they request Dell to send them the newer Windows 7 SP1 DVD to them? Thanks. Sorry to resurrect old topic regarding claming warranty of M18x in Malaysia, guys. Quoted from Alienware Malaysia Fan Club Facebook page: QUOTE Darren Lee said:
@PF TJ - the international warranty works here and dell will sen still sent down a repair man to service it for u thats the good news . Bad news is , when they do not have the parts like the 18 inch screen , Dell will order it from other dell counter parts from other country like the USA , and u have to wait for at least 2 weeks for the parts to arrive =(
@PF TJ - Nah they will service for u like OS issues and Bios but parts replacements have wait for dell to get form other Dell counterparts , i checked with both tech supports Manger from Singapore and Malaysia , So reassure ,anyways i check from USA that the M18 , is going to come out with a RGB screen soon so u should wait , Cheers man =) In short, is it still possible to purchase M18x from overseas and claim warranty for it in Malaysia? Yes, the wait for the part replacement may be a bit long, but it may worth it, as M18x is somehow "covered" by the warranty. Well, my intention of raising this point is not to argue who is right and who is wrong. It is more of gathering useful information for all of us here. QUOTE(pelvin @ Nov 21 2011, 08:18 AM) if upgrade to 240watt, got any improvement or not ? fps higher as enuff power? This information is obtained from Notebookreview forum. There is no difference between using a 150 W power adapter and a 240 W one. One visible benefit is that the 240 W adapter is not as hot as the 150 W. Maybe you can say throttling is less to occur for 240 W adapter. During heavy gaming, M15x draws about 180 W from the 150 W power adapter, causing the adapter to heat up considerably. On the other hand, 240 W adapter can easily deliver 180 W, without the adapter overheating. Note that 240 W adapter can only deliver up to 180 W, no matter how you try it, as it is limited by M15x BIOS. You can use either one of the adapters. For the 240 W adapter, you just have to disable "Adapter Incompatible Warning" in M15x BIOS. Hope this is helpful. This post has been edited by alvinkhorfire: Nov 21 2011, 04:41 PM

QUOTE(kelvin_hata @ Nov 21 2011, 05:27 PM) forgot to add on 1 more thing... if ur m15x is with i7 920xm or 940xm.. is highly recommended to get 240watt ac adaptor. Agree with what you said, kelvin_hata. This shows that 150 W power adapter is too weak to be used by M15x. In other words, Dell Alienware underestimated the power requirement of this laptop. As it is a laptop for gamers, gamers tends to push their gaming beasts much harder. The safety margin in term of power supply was too low, resulting in the 150 W adapter overheating all the time. At least, the power supply for M17x-R3 and M18x respectively is sufficient. This post has been edited by alvinkhorfire: Nov 21 2011, 10:05 PM
