@kelvin

i have no idea what is on ur mind
u call ur statement as a truth ? can i say your over confident ?

sure everyone know refurbish set will cheaper, but the point is ppl that can afford high end laptop like m14x above will 100% love it ? just because of that few hundred bucks different?

if u know which person in garage sales selling refurbish set with std price as ori, u direct point out his name with proof, this will help other forumer ,ok ???
how u answer other is ur right ,~ but u mention 99% dealer in garage sales is selling dell refurbish didt u ? so u mean that is true ? u mean ppl like hiraki85, rickrich (jayacom ) are selling refurbish instead of original ?why u say so without any proof and point ?

my selling business is no related in this case , but i don like that as u are dealer too, as u no need to speak those untruth statement without any proof , if u like bluffing , just go kopitiam , ok ?

lastly ~ i don need u provide stock for me, i have few close friend work in IT line, retail over 20years, perhaps, u have 20years experience also ?

To all AW m14x users,
You guys probably noticed how hot the processor can get when on load, probably because the chip is farther away from the cooling fan, which blows on the GPU.
The temps can be lowered by 10-20C by going to Nvidia's Control Panel>Set PhysX configuration>GT555m [or change to auto-select, whichever which reduces the temps]
This will put some load on the GT555m, but since the M14x's GPU cooling is superb, it won't matter lol XD

credit to the NBR guy who found this : http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-...20-degrees.html

notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

**Will try folding later and see whether the temp decrease is significant or not

Is it really that loud?

Still, after a while the fan will kick in to full speed and the noise will get just as loud. The BIOS update only delay the noise, not eliminated it altogether.
*
Yeah, of course it won't be eliminated haha, that's just asking for trouble yo laugh.gif
At least the fans don't kick in abruptly, which is kind of annoying hmm.gif

Try pressing the FN+Eject button from time to time, it'll eventually come out nod.gif

Not sure to get M14x now or maybe wait for M14x R2 ...

Last time i bought M11x R2 and two months later announced M11x R3 =.=ll
*
Later revisions will almost always be better nod.gif
I'm pretty sure the R2 won't have the weaknesses found in the R1 thumbup.gif

But the Ivy Bridge expected to be launched on March'12, is it?

So far how's the performance for current m14x?
Plan for Battlefield 3 and Starcraft 2 only also :\
*
Just tried the "requirement test" for Battlefield 3 in Nvidia's website laugh.gif
My GPU is not recommended sweat.gif
Nvidia recommends GTX560m and above haha, what marketing strategy laugh.gif

We don't know that for sure, but I think R2 will be launch together or after the launch of ivy bridge, no point of launching new revision without new hardware. smile.gif
*
+1, its highly likely the R2 would be out after the release of Ivy Bridge nod.gif

Go for 1.5GB since 3GB doesn't really provide any improvement.
CPU is more important.
*
+1, having the 1.5GB GT555m is good enough~
Having a normal i7 would be more than enough, spending the money on an SSD would be the better pick considering the M14x can get real hot under load laugh.gif
Getting a more powerful CPU will only mean more heat (personal experience tongue.gif ) sad.gif

Hi all M14x owners ....

My wife is considering the M14x for her next lappy, not for the gaming but bcoz she wanted something unique and different from the other brands.

Anyway, I noticed the M14x screen, the highest customized screen that I can upgrade to is:

14" (35.6cm) WLED HD+ (900p) display (1600X900)

Was wondering what will happen if I wanted to watch bluray movie on this lappy?

Bluray requires FHD right?

Can some one enlighten me before I make my order?
*
The M14x doesn't have Bluray drive I think hmm.gif

Anyway, the movie will be "compressed" to fit the screen lo... but will still be very clear la, just that not FullHD? laugh.gif

Hmm ... I wonder can I customized it via IlleGear or any US reseller to have the BluRay combo instead ... nowadays everything is going to BluRay ....

If cannot, then dunno to get my wife the M14x or the M17x R3 .... sad.gif
By the way, if not during gaming, just casual surfing of net, some simple application, how long does the battery last? looking at the number of FX lights it lights up ....  drool.gif
*
Wow, M17x for the wife? laugh.gif
Big and hard XD XD

Ahem, anyway, how long the battery lasts also depends on the number of lights (and themes) you have on and not to mention the processor.
If kept to a minimum, my M14x can last up to 4-4.5 hours brows.gif
