Would be great if someone can use the Standard Chartered VISA Infinite and Maybankard 2 American Express on the same day so we can see which one is giving better rate for foreign transaction, preferably on weekdays (so we don't have to factor in the MBB2 AMEX weekend 5% rebate when making a conclusion).

Forgot that i also bought something online just a few days ago and was charged in USD. Anyway, here you go.

Maybank
17 Feb 2011
- USD44 > RM134.74 (HKD1 = RM3.0623)

**Wawasan Sentosa's HKD rate on 17/2/2011 was USD1 = RM??

By the way, the payment was actually made on 18/2/2011 (Malaysia) but the transaction date is recorded as 17/2/2011 in Maybank's system. Paypal is a company based in California and 15 hours behind Malaysia.

Thanks for the Visa converter link.

However I feel that we all must use the same reference for comparison purposes e.g. wawasan sentosa or BNM.

anyone can tell me whether use SCB business plat visa CC or Maybank 2kard visa CC to do online transaction in USD has better exchange rate? consider that SCB give 3x point for oversea transaction + 0.5% cashback but maybank2kard visa only give 1 point. From the info here. SCB charge 1% for transaction whereas maybank visa charge 0.5%. so which card would be better for oversea purchase? thanks

Just used my SCB Business Plat in Bali and was charged around 2.79 rate inclusive of the 1%. It was not too bad.

If you're given a choice of mastercard or visa from the same bank, then which you prefer to apply?

Thanks!

That is what ALL bank credit card says, but in fact, they sneakily suck ur money from the high exchange rates.

I've tried the following credit card @ Australia:

SCB Business Visa Platinium - expensive
Maybankard 2 Gold Card - VISA: cheapest / AMEX: expensive
Citibank Platinium Cash Back - expensive

All 3 banks I called to ask if there are extra changes and all said none. Just sharing...

The senior guys here have compiled and posted all the information when using cc overseas. And when people share the rates here, it is defined quantitatively - readers can judge/calculate for themselves the additional percentage the bank charge vs the prevailing market rates. Now, please note that even you change your money at the money changer, someone has to make a profit. So whatever exchange rate you obtained is always higher than the interbank rates.

You posted a subjective answer (questionable) vs. a quantitative answer which cannot be disputed. Your definition of "expensive" can be misleading for newbies browsing in this thread. People who are sensitive to even 0.1% extra would define the charges as expensive if follow your method of categorization the term "expensive".

The exchange rate is determined by VISA, MasterCard or AMEX la duh. That's how they make money.
And I don't trust what our crappy bank officers from Malaysia said, most of them have little idea what they are really selling.
See below, all 3 banks you mentioned has additional fees as stated in their "fees and charges" section.

SCB --> 1%, source: SCB "fees and charges"
Maybankard 2 Gold Card - VISA --> 0.5% for VISA, 1.5% + 0.5% for AMEX. Source: Maybankard 2 Gold Application form. The AMEX 1.5% might be a typo, as everywhere else I see 2.5% for their AMEX cards.
Citibank --> 1%, source: Citibank "fees and charges"

Definitely a typo. It's 0.5% for their VISA and MasterCard and 0.5% + 2.5% for their AMEX.
