Game looks really cool, think Rockstar won't put their name on it if it doesn't fit with their style. From the action/shooting sequences it looks like RDR. What I like is how the facial expressions are spot-on like the actual actors. Ground breaking stuff. In the game you need to deduce if the suspect is lying or not based on facial expression.

Maybe ask your friends in the US? Some of them already playing it! So jealous now .. have to wait till Friday.

Btw if didn't pre-order we don't get free DLC and badge? Or is it bundled with all new games regardless.

Some lucky ppl already got their hands on the game cause they pre-order early.

Didn't want to pre-order games anymore but in the end cannot resist as didn't want to miss out on the specials. Should be released tomorrow or Friday. Reviews look solid. Can't wait.

It froze once on me, in the bank vault for a street crime. No idea why as there was no lagging or issues beforehand. Was only playing for about 20 minutes. So far have been playing few hours has not happened again. Installing to HDD would definitely be better and will do that once I can tear myself away from the game!

Used this guide to get all landmarks
http://www.gamesradar.com/f/la-noire-film-...517205858594034
but have yet to get the 50 film reels

This morning had tons of fun getting the 40 cars achievement. Just have to get in a new car for it to trigger. It's now a habit to look at every car that passes by or in parking lots. It's difficult as all these old style cars look similar. There is another achievement for all 90+ cars in the city and that one will be a beast.

The story is quite linear but the complicatedness of the interrogation will help with replayability. The game reminds me of Mafia series, True Crime and an old PC cop game that was set in LA too (but can't remember name).

The map system is a little iffy. I'm not sure why they didn't go with the marked line to destination like in previous GTA games. I know there's no GPS in those times smile.gif but it's quite tough to navigate. The partner directions aren't much help and it's better to just drive in the general direction of the destination.

About the interrogation, what piano music is correct/incorrect? Am having trouble figuring that out.

@ redninja, rockstar social club is already tracking your landmarks, if you use their interactive map which is right at the bottom of the page i linked, it shows you what collectibles you're missing and their location on the map so you can focus more on the story since you can always go back to collect them.  The automatic update refreshes more quickly than the RDR one so i can easily tell that you're way ahead of me in terms of achievements even if you got it a day earlier than me.

even if you have problems with the tune that plays after every question, you can look on your notebook to see if there's a tick/cross next to the question.  Rockstar social club's case tracker also tells you if you're missing a clue and what questions you got right/wrong/unopened.

Bioware could learn a thing or two from the rockstar's social club features.
*
But if haven't found the landmark (or other collectible) yet it won't show the location - just a grey unclickable box? Or is it my browser, using FF.

Yep Rockstar Social Club is really awesome. Getting lots of interrogation wrong ...

I dont think I have registered at Rockstar Social Club. Do you need to pay or anything? How to register?

I forgot about it already since last played RDR.

No need. Just sign up then activate your xbox live, ps3 and other gaming profiles. It will link up any Rockstar game like GTA, RDR, LA Noire etc. Your friends will be automatically added.

You have to go down to the map, and click on the legend/category - film reels, street crimes, newspapers, landmarks etc.  The black dots which you can mouse over are the ones you have missed.

That's why I've given up on driving to destinations for now. I just let my partner drive (instant-reach!!) ... lol. Maybe I'll come back to driving around leisurely to take in the sight and sound later when I'm done with the story. tongue.gif
*
After playing the game for most of the day have to say that I like the driving mechanics. It's easy and smooth. The map itself is not as large as the GTA games so it is in a way easier to navigate if you remember to head to one of those large boulevards and branch off from there.

I recommend the GamesRadar guide for the landmarks and especially for film reels as it shows the picture of the actual buildings along with zoomed in map location. The SC map just tells the general location. Tried to hunt for the first film reel and could not do it with the SC map only.

The game froze again when transitioning with Rusty driving once. Also stuff on the ground, like newspapers & trash etc take awhile to 'catch up' and generate as you're driving or walking. Installed to disc and think it's better now.

I made it to Vice! The final mission for Homicide is solid. The Homicide section was quite lengthy, but enjoyed every single minute.

hey any idea how to get 5 star completed case?
i complete all the evidence, all correct asnwer, most i can get is 4 star..
hmm..
*
Vehicle and city damage play a part in that. Get your partner to drive you when doing cases. Don't sweat that as you can replay the case to get the all cases with 5 Star achievement.

^ Just a patch (from Rockstar announcement)

* Fixes for several in-game store issues including age-verification for DLC purchases
* Fixes for minor gameplay bugs and graphical issues
* Fixes for several minor plot/objective/conversation issues
* Improvements in stat-tracking and Social-Club integration

Finished the game/story. About 95% completion just few street crimes and 2 vehicles left. Not sure how I feel about ending. Powerful story though ... great work by Team Bondi/Rockstar .. thought provoking, makes you feel conflicted.

Haha bro. When u start playing this game, you dont wanna stop. You will have the feeling wanting to know what will happen next. Hehehe.

You will stop when you are sleepy only. Not even hunger can stop you. tongue.gif

Thanx to L.A Noire, I slept at 4am in the morning for the past two nights! Huhuhuhu.  rclxub.gif

*
Exactly smile.gif It's addictive! The game is in a way pretty linear but there is still a bit of replayability afterwards - to get 5 stars or to figure out if you really do have the chops to figure out if someone is lying or not. There's also the DLCs to be released eventually but am hoping that they will be priced reasonably. 800 pts is a little too much for something like the Naked City DLC. It was quite short. Somewhere around 400 pts would be more worth it for a case but it looks like 800 is the rumored price sad.gif

Also if you grew up playing those old school detective games, like Tex Murphy and such .. LA Noire is like dream come true.

******************

Now have 100% complete stats rclxm9.gif I'm kinda went crazy with this game. Some hints

1. If you have the 'The Badge Pursuit Challenge' - comes with Naked City DLC, when you hunt for landmarks have the list of badge locations handy. They are all at the landmarks (20 badges). Collecting gives you an outfit and is not part of 100% though.

2. For some vehicles they are location specific and are hard to find outside of the mission unless you're really lucky
Packard Custom - Arson desk, 1st mission 'The Gas Man', turn around before going into the InstaHeat factory
Pontiac Torpedo Six - Vice desk, 2nd mission 'The Set-Up', in the parking lot at the beginning boxing stadium
Police cars - at a crime scene get in all the cars/vans
Service Van #1 - at the Polar Ice Factory during one of the missions, in SouthWest Hollywood
Buick Ambulance - Grand Samaritan Hospital
.. other vehicle guides out there but these are the ones that gave me problems

3. To get 5-stars or better rating, always get your partner to drive.

4. Hunting landmarks is easy also because of the partner driving. Mark the main part of the road not side roads or alleys.

5. When tailing someone it is preferable to stay very far back and out of sight. The chances are higher for you to be spotted when you are close rather than you losing the tail. There are two achievements (if you have Naked City DLC) where you need to follow without failing.

6. In most street crime car chases it is usually 'rigged'. No matter what your partner says to spin them out or whatever, you can usually just follow until a pre-determined time. You can end some chases early if your partner successfully shoots the tires out. Enemy cars can do superhuman hairpin turns so watch out. Most missions fail because of car chases.

yes, getting your partner to drive to the destinations is preferred as you dont get penalised for "public damage" while driving. You won't get 5-stars if your aggregate damage at the end of the case is more than $xx. This was pointed out by redninja in an earlier post as well. I don't really know how much is the max $xx damage, but my own experience tells me up to $350 is ok but $2,000 is NOT ok. lol. The $2k damage was because i tried getting the 80mph achievement during one of the cases. NEVER try that during a case. hahaha ....
Unfortunately there is one achievement where you have to get $47,000 of damage in a case. Maybe replay the earlier traffic cases for this, but you essentially have to go around wreaking havoc. The best solution someone came up with was to get a firetruck and drive on the sidewalk - ram all the lights, benches. I just did it on one of the cases using the car but got a 1-star overall for it of course. Track the amount using SC as it is updated pretty quick.

QUOTE(terranova @ May 23 2011, 01:29 PM)
btw, redninja - can get better than 5-star one meh?  tongue.gif  blush.gif (just joking!)

lol my bad biggrin.gif 5 stars is hard enough as it is. Am replaying now with black & white mode turned on. It's really cool.

Oh problem with the patch/update, it reset all clues founds, interrogation stats and some other things in SC to like 0. They're working the bugs out with tying the game stats into SC for replaying missions .. now all those stats are missing.

Note that when you complete all achievements for the main game it does not count as completing retail. You need to get all the DLCs given at release/pre-order if you want to get all achievements - "The Naked City" and "The Slip of the Tongue". 5 achievements each for 100 points. Their price on Xbox live is to be announced but hopefully it is nothing more than 400 pts - my guess is 560 points as it is allegedly shorter than the other DLCs to come.

Feel a little mad about that as have been grinding away at the achievements thinking I can complete them. Now have to wait until the release of DLCs sometime next month.

Rockstar Social Club is still broken. My friend that just finished the game same thing happened. End game, replay any case .. all clues reset zero.

No word on those first day DLCs but the first official DLC 'Nicholson Electroplating' (Arson) will be released 21st June.

How long does it take to finish the game (approx hours) ? I think I've spent just over 4 hours.  tongue.gif  Need to put in some serious hours.

Is it me or it kinda gets repetitive - - a case occurs, you get there, you find clues, you interview, you bust the bad guy, rinse and repeat. Perhaps later stages it is a lot more than this.

I don't think I'm doing too well in the interviews. I try my best to read the expressions on the face but still can't quite get it right.
*
16-18 hours? Think about 25+ to go back replay stuff to get achievements and 5 star cases.

Yes it is quite repetitive, one playthrough is all needed. The investigating thing is quite easy as it's not difficult to miss things if you take your time. Chases are rigged. Gunfighting is so short, blam blam .. cutscene. There's no real branching off of the story or gives the player any choice. The ending was also very sudden, saw it coming .. but it felt like it was put in there to conclude it cause they were running out of time or something.
