2.1 hermes is compatible with our tabs? So I gather ours are the CDMA types correct?
GSM ones not compatible for us?

errr... where did you learn that... its totally wrong info...

GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications).............. GSM is the “branded” term referring to a particular use of TDMA (Time-Division Multiple Access) technology. GSM is the dominant technology used around the globe and is available in more than 100 countries. It is the standard for communication for most of Asia and Europe. GSM operates on four separate frequencies: You’ll find the 900MHz and 1,800MHz bands in Europe and Asia and the 850MHz and 1,900MHz (sometimes referred to as 1.9GHz) bands in North America and Latin America. GSM allows for eight simultaneous calls on the same radio frequency and uses “narrowband” TDMA, the technology that enables digital transmissions between a mobile phone and a base station. With TDMA the frequency band is divided into multiple channels which are then stacked together into a single stream, hence the term narrowband. This technology allows several callers to share the same channel at the same time.

CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access).............................. CDMA takes an entirely different approach from GSM/TDMA. CDMA spreads data out over the channel after the channel is digitized. Multiple calls can then be overlaid on top of one another across the entire channel, with each assigned its own “sequence code” to keep the signal distinct. CDMA offers more efficient use of an analog transmission because it allows greater frequency reuse, as well as increasing battery life, improving the rate of dropped calls, and offering far greater security than GSM/TDMA. For this reason CDMA has strong support from experts who favor widespread development of CDMA networks across the globe. Currently, you will find CDMA mostly in the United States, Canada, and North and South Korea. (As an interesting aside, CDMA was actually invented for the military during World War II for field communications.)

No, T-mobile is also a GSM carrier. The 2 big carriers with CDMA are Sprint and Verizon. That is why only this year that the users with Verizon got the iPhone as the exclusivity with AT&T has ended and Apple started making CDMA versions of the iPhone.

That is KIES fault. YOu have to go to Samsung website and download latest version of KIES. Somehow the older version does not know that there is an upgrade.

http://www.samsung.com/my/support/detail/s...chword=GT-P1000

Select Software and Download the 2.0.1.11053_66_6 version.

Downloaded the latest Kies and tried, still no update. What firmware or ROM were you on before you checked? I went back to 2.2 to try...

I just tried upgrading the firmware to PDA:JPD / PHONE:JPD / CSC:JPD (XME) and the famous error came out.

"Insufficient disk's free space (requires at least 3000 MB)". I got more than that in both my notebook and Tab.

Sigh.. Samsung.. when are you ever going to fix KIES?

Added on June 21, 2011, 4:15 pm
I don't think so. The current Galaxy S is on JP versions. For them, Gingerbread is PDA:JV6 / PHONE:JV4 / CSC:JV6. So I doubt JPD would be Gingerbread for us. Just guess coz I can't upgrade with the stupid error message.

Added: I think the JPD is what kokifung installed, which is 2.2.1 and not Gingerbread. It's just a blended Froyo.. sigh.. still have that stupid error message.

ya wor, installed latest kies also failed to get updates.. doh.gif shakehead.gif

QUOTE(sleepwalker @ Jun 22 2011, 09:35 AM)
I finally got it installed. Confirmed that it is Gingerbread 2.3.3. However, it works great on my phone. Fix the lagging issue and apps launch faster.

like many others Forumer said KIES IS TERRIBLY SUCK SOFTWARE that many people said how terrible it is.... samsung want to copy like apple itunes but it not success like itunes....

compare to HTC its upgrade through OTA mean u no need use any software or program to update ur phone juz update through ur phone......

however...
if u keep going to try this upgrade from kies take note that any rom upgrade from samsung minimum data rom u need to download around 200MB++....... it will take quite long time to dld that file.....

chill bro.... biggrin.gif

mine is from Singapore, DX version also I think, did not note it before I flashed a custom ROM (was too much in a hurry :-)). I've been running all the Overcome ROMs on it. Just thought I should try out the official ROM to see the difference. I'm thinking maybe cos' I'm still rooted? Anyways, I'm back on Tech's CM7 now...

Download latest kies. If you got any launcher installed like adw or go please go back to samsung original home launcher. Plug in and it will connect and update to gingerbread.
