I didn't know that we have an ABAP thread, though it looks pretty much dead now. I had assumed there weren't any ABAPers among LYNers. Or have you guys all switched to functional?

QUOTE(.lowyat.net. @ Feb 24 2014, 11:28 AM) I've been doing ABAP for ages and I don't worry about certifying myself But I believe those from certain continent might have info where to 'certify' themselves w/o going for any courses. |

I used to be an ABAPer. Certified since 2006. I went through the certification program partially sponsored by MDeC. I didn't use fully utilize my experience in programming ABAP though.
Now I just focus entirely iOS App Development. |

QUOTE(markchan @ Aug 26 2014, 09:11 AM) I think focus on money is not a correct thinking. If I just focus on money, I already pursue the SAP consultant career long ago as I am a certified SAP development Consultant in ABAP.If you focus on passion, the money will follow. When I shifted my career from web developer/internet marketer to become a mobile app developer, it was really tough. I was working in a cheap company with a ridiculously low fresh graduate salary just because I want a good place to train my skills. Although I know that my work is definitely from someone who is experienced and produce high quality work. I don't care too much on money during that time, I just keep focusing on training my skills. 2 years down the road. Yes, now I have a full time job in another company and I work on some freelance iOS projects too. Life just keeps better when you focus on passion. Money is great too. It seems that the discussion here is more toward the career rather than technical. Anyway, I do agree with mobileoop, money is not everything really but once you've more and more commitment coming to you, probably that will change a bit.

Wonder is there any SAP Portal Developers around? Seems that in Malaysia there are some companies start to look at the new UI technologies (SAP UI5, WDA+FPM, Personas)

Seems that in Malaysia there are some companies start to look at the new UI technologies (SAP UI5, WDA+FPM, Personas) It seems that way, my office is going full swing on integrating internet with the SAP and have implemented few projects based on portal, web services, etc. I'm still stuck with ABAP for now and let the younger ones going for the web based apps on SAP. There is still a market for old programmers like me out there |

Hi, I am "new" in ABAP just joined ABAP right after grad. Now already 1 year 7+ months in SAP ABAP Consultant. Since there is so hard to find ABAP thread.
1) I am planning to jump. How much should i ask for jumping company, my current pay is Rm3k sharp. I have my reason to jump, and i have to jump. Increase salary just part of it. 2) How is it working in Functional side? Any advise for change from technical to functional? My programming skills is not that good. But, i can proudly say my coding skills comparing between when i am graduated and current skills is greatly increased. There is still plenty to learn in ABAP. 3) I am looking for coding-less (less coding) work in SAP environment. any advise? |
