MIUI seems tempting to me.
too bad that the list of bugs seems like show stopper for it.

I'm preparing to flash JVB from darky 9.5.

There's a few things I would like to find out before I do that.

1.) how do i get the same shortcut "restart", "data on/off", "recovery", "download mode" by holding the power button? is there something that I can install to get JVB to have this function?

2.) What if I'm not happy with JVB. can I still flash back to darky 9.5 or other custom rom in 2.2.1 straight away?

Thanks.

stock JVB doesnt have all the shortcuts when u press/hold the lock/power button, but custom ROM has
so when u flash to stock JVB, flash CFroot, then at CWM install zip goatrip(custom rom)

correct me if im wrong, sifus! hehe

thanks mate.
does this rom has got the shortcut I was talking about?

on side note.
Since I'm a happy user of darky 9.5 I don't really find much reason to flash to gingerbread yet.
etx4 sounds tempting but darky 9.5 is smooth enough to begin with.

I heard that the JVB has got the bug with receiving phone calls that it would lag for 2 sec before we can be able to hear or speak.
does anyone here have got issues like this?

Hmmm.... sounds like I'll have less headache to keep using Darky 9.5.
too bad darky wanted to stop dev for now.

I'll just wait and see how it goes.

the last time I remember I wanted 2.2 is because of the flash support and some new features.
after that, 2.3 does sounds like suppose to be faster due to /ext4 format. but since 2.2.1 with different speedmod does seems to make the phone perform even before converting to ext4.
Unless there's something in 2.3 that I can't miss or i might be better off sticking to 2.2.1 for now.

JVB sounds like isn't that stable yet. other rom seems to have problems of their own. I'll try to wait for another month before any move.

I have tried to use xwjvb for 2 days.
I love the updates and also the gps accuracy.
but the battery life is horrible, I've been a very careful battery user. but the phone just drain batteries in idle.

I've heard that stopping the software update would fix it but it's not for me.
anyone here got any solutions for this?

did u mean this?

"The fix has been working on JVK and JVB ROMs, check other threads about this issue. You can delete the data of the Software Update application, but it will be regenerated after a reboot. If you want to get rid of this, just root the phone and delete the following APKs

syncmldm.apk
syncmlds.apk
wssyncmlnps.apk

Just look at this: After 17 hours with light usage, still 68% battery."

I'm trying to follow this instruction.
deleted the mentioned files above from /system with root explorer.
let see if this fix the battery drain.
thanks for the info.

So, the GPS improved?
Hopefully, it's faster and more accurate than before.

I am tired with the Galaxy S's GPS.  sad.gif Applied so many fixes and flashes, it's still working like sh!t.
*
I've tried it with sygic.
compare to papago it's much better.
as for accuracy. I have to say i have nothing more to complain.
it's so fast.

Deleting the 3apk files solved the battery drain issue of jvb for me. No more battery drop over idle.

I followed this method and deleted for files.
battery life is great now.

however, some forumer said that they just rename the .apk to .apk_bak to freeze the apk from functioning.
a few post back a guy said that renaming doesn't work. it's up to you.
deleting definitely work for me.

cheers.

hmmm...
I just remove that 3 apk files because I believe by the time I see the need for that 3 files. it could be the time they release a new rom to fix those drain battery bugs. by then I can just flash to the new rom and get the apk files back.

btw, what is the need for those kernel mod when our JVB performed perfectly with gingerbread?

the GPS is great, speed is fast with etx4, battery drain fixed as mentioned above and etc updates which make it nice and fluid. there's no need for a lagfix right?

I would understand for custom rom but at the moment I'm quite happy with stock.

I have good good experience with the XWJVK in battery life. Really not bad after we deleted the software updates apk files. My gps can lock on really fast without the need for data. Seems like I can stick to this stock rom for a bit longer.

or you could just buy the SGS2 instead  brows.gif  LOL!! actually im thinking of it, love the bigger screen and thinner body, one thing i love about samsung is their specs. but i'll probably wait for my current contract to expire in july then if they have a good deal for the SGS2 i will consider. but if there will be a SGS3 coming out end of the year, i might wait for that.

on another note, on JVH since last night, battery life is great so far and the phone is now snappier, loads much faster now on startup and shutdown. im happy with the upgrade  biggrin.gif
