Well, I have a compaq presario v3700 which is a laptop for assignment, browsing the internet, movies and stuff but it would lag tho when opening viewing some HD video in youtube, so I'm thinking whether i should overclock it, I mean, overclocking a laptop might be uncommon as compared to desktop considering desktop has good cooler such as water tubes and ridiculous amount of fans while laptop can only rely on cooler with fans underneath it.

And now i bought a new alienware, it is designed for gaming so i assume it has good cooling system in it, so should i overclock both of my laptops? i might buy a good rm100 cooler for my alienware and then overclock it. Will overclocking both by my laptops shorten their lifes significantly? I know it will shorten their life somehow somewhat but i want to know will the impact of overclocking a laptop, i might want my alienware to last for at least 4 years from now on. Im planning to overclock both CPU and GPU

overclocking would shorten their lifespan due to those chips running under hot conditions~
on the other hand, desktop is easier to overclock...thus the ability to have watercooling to overcome the heat issues ^^
as for laptop, it's possible but only if ur laptop temps are okay during normal conditions.. if like some, have high temps during normal conditions then it isn't really ok to overclock as it'll rise up the temps even more..
i read about "some" alienware user, xps user, that their laptop can't be placed on their laps as it's quite hot at times haha.. the heat produced is quite a lot but still, games, hd movies still can be played ^^ which is a good thing haha..but it's quite worrisome at times..

all in all, i wouldn't fiddle much with laptops..it aint ez to upgrade a laptop nor modify much of its components unlike a desktop
even the lcd of the laptop aint cheap.. it's a risk to take when meddling with laptop..

overclocking....i would 100% do it to my desktop but not my laptop~

currently i'm practicing "undervolting" with my laptop to control how much is needed each time when processing something ^^
it runs cooler and smoother now

also with updated graphics drivers or whatever drivers..everything is A ok ^^

this is my 1st time knowing about undervolting. If i undervolt and get a good cooling pad for my alienware, do u think i can overlock my aw?

i'm not sure if it's good to undervolt and at the same time, overclock coz overclocking would need the right amount of voltage from graphics card, ram, and processor..that would usually be done automatically by those overclocking tools lolz..
if u mess up the voltage when undervolting...ur pc might keep restarting or something might happen...
well i'm not a pro in both undervolting and overclocking~
so i can't really give a really good answer...
i placed my cooling pad in the closet as it doesn't do justice for me...
now with undervolting..i do not need all that lol..
laptop temps remain around 86 degrees (room temp 31/32/33) even when gaming.. if i switch the aircond on...the temps would b 6x to 7x only..
