for about 3 years my 1MBpbs line was running at 1.5Mbps..this week onwards it's been 0.96MBps only...i'm guessing they're starting to cap.

QUOTE(sakurazz @ Aug 11 2011, 05:08 PM) well, that's what the guy at TMpoint said. assumed it'd be quicker since go direct to them but guess not.link is already at 4092/511 and that was done 30mins after registration. However when checked with speedtest still 1MBps only.i'll be calling 100 in the morning tomorrow to see what's going on. |

Just from the start of this week it's been 0.96-0.99Mbps.that's why i'm upgrading to 4Mbps.i cant wait n called 100 dy jus now.. n they ask grandma's story as usual and end result is asking me to wait 24 hours.. This post has been edited by pgcity: Aug 11 2011, 05:31 PM |

update at 5.20pm. well i just love the way TM works . the first guy who was assigned to come never called back.left him a message around 3pm.no response.called 100 just now and turns out now they've assigned a new guy to come and enable jumper.asked them how come other guy never came and they said they have no record of assigning this other person and only can see the new guy's name on their system.
god knows what jumper they need to enable if the modem already shows 4092/511 30mins after i went to register. now i've to wait till 10am tomorrow once more. |

QUOTE(nwk @ Aug 12 2011, 06:18 PM) from my experiance when i was upgrading my line, my installer had to do something to the port at the dslam and he had to call the network center to "activate" the 4mb speed. he told me for new subscribers, it will be activated immediately but for those who are upgrading they have to wait at least 24 hours. not sure what this jumper is but i guess the soft cap on your line is still set at 1mb at the network center or this jumper they mentioned is not enabled yet. ok.we'll see what happens in the morning. This post has been edited by pgcity: Aug 13 2011, 10:53 AM |

4.15pm and am on the 4MB line.
![]() download speed is averaging 380-390kbps.can't go any higher. i am still 63% faster than the rest of MY according to speedtest asked installer for the 5MB downstream option and he said there are 2 requirements. a) the SNR must be high and the Line attenuation has to be low. My SNR is 27.5 while the Attenuation is 36. SNR According to the service acceptance form that i signed it is listed that the SNR needs to be higher than 15 while the Attenuation has to be below 40. He said that since the attenuation is so close to 40 if he turns the option on, the line would be unstable. He said my numbers were one of the worst he has seen so far for 4MB line request. He said if it was 2MB or 1MB, he said there would be no issues with stability. Reason for this high attenuation numbers could be due to distance from the DSLAM and/or copper line quality. As for line testing, all he did was exactly what I have done so far,log into the router and take a look at the statistics.mine is posted below b) as my port was already setup by TM to 4092kbps, he said he "shouldn't" set the speed higher either. If the port wasn't activated, he said he could have logged in and change the setting to 5120kbps. As he didn't want to get screwed by TM for doing it and later being scolded by customer for unstable performance he said best to leave it as is. He did say to call him again if the line wasn't stable. the service acceptance form states that the achievable speed needs to be ONLY 70% of subscribed speed(NOT 80% as i wrongly suggested in an earlier answer). Considering i'm getting 3.49Mbps that's about 87% of my subscribed speed. i guess that's the best it is for now till i get Unifi when service coverage is finally available someday. Plus, he said Penang is the first state that they're doing trial runs to cap speeds. That's why now we get 0.99Mbps instead of 1.4Mbps speed for those who subscribed to the 1Mbps line. The rest of those who are on 5Mbps will be throttled to 4 or almost 4Mbps soon.He did suggest something funny...told me to get a bunch of fellas to create a Facebook page and protest that we're paying high for slow speeds. anyway, there were no jumpers to play with.all that was needed was for this guy to go into my account and activate my 4MBps ability as the port was already done by TM. i also got the free DLINK 2640B wifi/router. it came in the streamyx in a box carton brought in by the installer.TM counter fella told me it was going to be the Innacom wifi modem. I've plugged back in my old Dlink router and it's working fine. this new one from TM would probably be a backup unit or just for wifi now and then when i need it. and now after 3 days...it's 4Mbps..FINALLY This post has been edited by pgcity: Aug 13 2011, 04:38 PM |
