Weird but really damn good music. Sort of like Bjork and Jewel mixed together. Her music is described as 'anti-folk', which apparently is a mix of punk and folk. A lot of the songs are sparsely arranged, with just a piano accompanying her voice.
She's a really experimentative singer, singing one way in this song and a totally different way in the next. Of course the fact that she has a really good voice gives her the leeway to do that.. I think she's the only singer I ever heard where at the end of one song she actually sneezes. (In 'Mary Ann', a song about a woman murdering her lover.)
Get her latest album 'Begin To Hope' and listen to the song "Samson". Really beautiful song. The rest of the album is superb also.
She's released a few albums already, but impossible to get them here lar, unless you go the you know what route
Outstanding songs (not all from the same album)-
From Begin To Hope- Samson, Fidelity, Lady (basically the whole album is good except for one or two songs)
From earlier albums- Carbon Monoxide, Oedipus, Pavlov's Daughter etc etc (too many to list)
I don't get it why we don't get more of this type of music on local radio. If I hear Hips Don't Lie *one* more time I might just strangle myself.
