Been experiencing daily SODs since the third day after purchase. Tried out everything, hard reset, revert to factory settings, wifi sleep set to never, still no improvement, still experiencing SOD once to thrice every 24 hours. I figured Before the SODs started, I haven't plugged into Kies to update my firmware. The next day after updating to KC1, the SODs started. I noticed none of the users with the old KA9 firmware were complaining about SODs. So I brought my phone to the samsung center a couple of hours ago to have them revert it to the KA9 firmware. I'll let you guys know if this works. I hope it does.

Just letting you guys know that this is the first time my phone went over 24 hours without an SOD.
All I did was have the firmware reverted to an older version. My baseband used to be S5830DXKC1, now it's S5830XXKA6. Sadly, they didn't have the older Asian versions so they had to use European, but that's a small price to pay for not having SODs. Besides, I only use English anyway. If you have S5830DXKA9 all the better. So, anyone else wanna try this? It's the only thing that's worked for me so far. |

@lee82gx: I'm using an old European firmware, XXKA6. They didn't have DXKA9 at the time so this will do for now.

QUOTE(MerzadNazmi @ Apr 28 2011, 08:52 PM) i think it means screen of death. when ur phone turns off and cannot turn on unless u take out the battery first. been having my phone for 2months. no SOD's reported! ^^ maybe just plain luck but I am still using the older factory DXKA9 baseband version. try changing to the old one guys! good luck! That's what I've been trying to tell everyone. Older firmware versions don't get SODs. Usually the ones complaining are the ones with DXKC1.This post has been edited by amio: Apr 29 2011, 01:32 AM |

QUOTE(infinityjc @ Apr 29 2011, 09:47 AM) Bro, not only KC1, but also to KB1 which is original version of Ace when I bought it. I got SOD few times liao...suspected is WIFI caused. I know. If I remember correctly, those are the two latest firmware versions for ace. Turning the wifi sleep policy to never did not work for me. Reverting to KA6 did. If you can revert yours to KA9 I'm sure SODs will trouble you no longer. Try it. Added on April 29, 2011, 2:30 pm QUOTE(siNG7681 @ Apr 29 2011, 09:13 AM) Dictionary.com is pretty good. It doubles as a thesaurus and even has a word of the day widget. QUOTE(sapik900906 @ Apr 29 2011, 10:10 AM) ohh no! sp many SOD kes reported! guy! are these will be a big prob? coz i'm thinking to get one! waaa// The Galaxy Ace is a great phone, good specs for an affordable price. But some, if not most users experience frequent SODs, including myself. One thing I've learned is that SODs pretty much don't occur on the older firmware versions, like DXKA9. I myself have reverted to an older firmware version, albeit European, XXKA6. My phone hasn't had an SOD ever since. Here's something you can do. Check the firmware version first before getting your phone. You have to go to menu> settings> about phone> baseband version. See if it says S5830DXKA9. If it does, then you're lucky. If it doesn't, ask the store technician if they could revert the firmware to an older version. And when connecting to Kies on your computer, DON'T update. Just an advice. Good luck!
