Istanbul for sure. Touted as one of the greatest sporting comebacks ever.
1996 - Liverpool 4 - Newcastle 3. Touted by many as possibly the best Premiership game. Kings of the Castle series.

QUOTE(Mikeshashimi @ Apr 15 2011, 09:34 PM) I know i might be biased but the greatest match that I have watched is definitely the Istanbul Champions League Final... definitely the best ECL Final... Its a complete football match, Goals, Passion, Fans... In my opinion, what made it such a memorable match wasn't just the manner in which it was won. It was all the other elements that added to the atmosphere. The haunting rendition of YNWA at half time when we were 3-0 down, Maradona and Johan Cruyff - two legends who have played in massive environments paying tribute, the long trek to the Attaturk. All this played a major part.i remember bits and pieces of other games but cant really remember exact matches (ie. results and scorer, and year)... haha... I may be biased but there was just so much going on, not just on the pitch but off it. |

Another classic European final off the top of my head is Liverpool's 5-4 triumph over Alaves in the 2001 UEFA Cup. Not often you get a spot kick scoreline in a final.
One other game I can't seem to forget for the wrong reasons is losing to an Eric Cantona goal in the 1996 installment of the FA Cup. |

QUOTE(solnavo @ Apr 21 2011, 09:05 PM) ...and 4 from Gary Lineker. One match that I never watched but have heard about frequently is the 1978 friendly between Malaysia and England B. The fabled Mokhtar Dahari managed to dribble past half the team before hitting a screamer past Manchester City legend, Joe Corrigan. Don't think the full match was archived unfortunately. |
