My unprofessional review on Asus U46SV. I better put one for those who are still on the fence on buying this or not. Let's Begin.
I bought this laptop on the 16th of August from C-Zone. Resonable of them to let you "harass" the laptop whichever way you want. I was looking either for the Lenovo y470 or Asus N45SF. Unfortunately after walking for 2 hours, it sad to say Lenovo Malaysia has stop bringing in this purple metallic beauty here

. The saddest was it was an i7 model with nVidia gt540m at less than 3k. My other option was HP but their bear hug with ATI gave me away. Their dv6 beats edition was certainly one of their better build laptops.
So long story short, i gave the ugly n45 the no and grab this beauty for rm2830 with no freebies.
The specs are
Intel i5 2410 duo core
nVidia GT540m
HD 640GB
4Gbs 1333Mhz Ram
1380X780 screen resolution
2 X USB and 1 X USB 3.0
HDMI and VGA support.
rest are multitouch pad, 1 button for power management, bluetooth and wireless N drive.
Battery is 8 cells .
Let go with the good things.
1>Light: Having used an inspiron 1420 dell, this laptop feels more solid and light. Also the UPS unit is nearly double in length compared to my old one. Its rated at around 2.3kgs. My dell was nearly 2.9kgs
2> Design and Contruction: Metal parts are only the back of the display and keyboard area. The rest is black plastic which is not matte. The metals parts are not glossy are all, impart they have lots of parallel lines running across it, preventing finger marks. The keyboard is chiclet
style like applie but does not light up. Construction is solid though, so far no weak points for me. The screen and body is worth noting that is no bending at all.
One thing to note is they is only 2 extra buttons other than the keyboard, 1 for power and another for power management options which can change from high performance to energy saver(this disable Aero).
All other options like wifi on button, media button are built in combo with the Fn key at the keyboards.
3>Battery. The battery is a 8 cells type, larger than normal 6 cells and advertise as 10 hours!. I cannot say how true is that but windows did indicate 7-8 hours lasting on normal web surfing. Also the battery actually lift the laptop about 1/2", so it gives more air to breath.
4>Display: Its the standard size resolution at 14" with 1366 x 768 resolution. Looks sharp and crispier than getting the same one for 15"
5>Gaming: No problems so far. I only played Heroes of might and magic 5 at full resolution. No lag what so ever.
6> Noise: So far not a problem even when gaming. In fact my house fan is noiser than the laptop, which is saying alot.
And now the bad stuff
1> Speakers: Damn the speakers, Its more like mono speakers since both of them are fixed on the bottom right of the laptop. I didnt know this and thought I had a faulty unit. The speakers are just "okay" like ipad speakers. Nothing to shout and definitely not good at open area. Good headphones are better

.
2> Heat: Because the keyboard area is also metal. The heat will mostly concentrate at the left side. This can be a good thing because it shows the body acts like a heat sink. Bad cause you know, you get sweaty hands

. Also it blows alot of hot air out when gaming.
3>Ports: No e-sata port and only 1USB 3.0. Also only having 3USB feels short from 4. Also 2 USB, the microphone port and headphone port are all tight together at the front side which makes things messy there.
4> Buttons: Lack of direct buttons like wifi toggle, Optimus or volume might piss some people off.
5>Asus software: There so many of them, I spend nearly 3 hours just removing and checking them. Most of them are redundant already like screen saver and remote login.
Compared to N45SF
1>Smaller keyboards buttons
2>Mono speakers
3>Gaming not as fast (540m vs 555m)
4> Lighter and battery last longer than 6 hours.
That is all folks. Hope this will make your mind up. I chose this more to travelling companion, light gaming and also for business. Nothing shouts like like a Champagne Gold Metal Body

. The design is also simple and straight forward. Even the lines on the body and plastic is sooooo fine that it looks flat from far. And in all this is a great travelling laptop that does good on gaming

. Hope it supports DOTA 2!
