QUOTE(secondrate @ Apr 21 2011, 08:37 PM) Posted Hmmm, overall impression, build quality, performance, battery life, ergonomics, etc. EDIT : Ah... forgot to mention the laptop came with a lot of junk installed. Best is reformat (but no disc provided? I had to use my own ori copy) then pick which software you want from the utilities and drivers disc running nVidia 270.61 VERDE now Just enough to make other people feel poisoned. |

QUOTE(secondrate @ Apr 21 2011, 08:51 PM) Asus website states 2.0kg with 6 cell, the screen on the display laptop said 2.2kg for this 8 cell. All I know is, much much lighter than my old 2.4kg - 2.6kg laptop. My back can tell! I was reading somewhere that the new U41SV had an increase in weight and I was hoping it was for the better build quality. Speaking of which, how's the overall build quality of it? |

QUOTE(secondrate @ Apr 21 2011, 08:55 PM) I read that the previous U series had keyboard flex. This one doesn't have much. Build quality I would say is pretty solid lor. But I don't like that the glossy areas get scratched so easily. I wipe dust off with microfibre also scratch. Left side of the DVD drive cover popped out last night but I pushed it back in and it's fine now. Should not handle the drive so roughly... I tested the display unit in PC Fair kao kao, found that the flex was gone but was kinda skeptical because it was just one unit. My A42JV's drive cover also popped out last month. LOL! |

QUOTE(secondrate @ Apr 21 2011, 09:05 PM) Haha, pretty satisfied with mine. It seems like quite popular. My friend wanted to buy also but in the end no stock. He ended up with Inspiron 14R... everytime I see that fat thing I must He didn't try the other reseller there? And should have gone to LowYat to buy too if out of stock in PC Fair. Btw, you said you got yours from the booth by ThunderMatch? Added on April 21, 2011, 9:14 pm QUOTE(willchua @ Apr 21 2011, 09:09 PM) Yeah absolutely hate the glossy part around the LCD. LCD is matte so no glare but the glossy part next to it are glaring and also dust magnet. Also the bottom of the DVD is kinda soft. So don't press too hard on the right side. As for keyboard, a bit flex, but i don't really mind that. Ah at least you guys only need to worry about the LCD's bezel. Most parts of mine are glossy... The warmness of the left side make my hand really uncomfortable. For me, the build quality of U41JF is kinda fragile and soft. U have to be gentle with this laptop. QUOTE(willchua @ Apr 22 2011, 12:51 AM) hmm? most Asus U41 sold in Malaysia are glossy? didn't know that...my stock are from Servex (M) Sdn Bhd. but glossy LCD have better color, right? u can always fixed the glare problem with anti glare screen protector. Glossy makes it hard to work with under certain lighting conditions and angles. Matte is pretty awesome. |

It won't increase the temperature, your performance wouldn't be affected too much either. 4GB is good enough for most tasks.

Not to mention that the U41SV feels more solid than the U36JC.

QUOTE(Vox @ Apr 24 2011, 12:29 AM) Bro i think you are quite pro on Asus since you are the thread starter. I'm really stuck with Asus and Acer now in decision of getting a laptop. Can you let me know which should i choose? I mean Asus model. Budget must be below rm3000 and more on gamings. so far decision is still on this few model : 1) Asus A53SV-SX106V - i5 2) Asus A43SV- SX028V - i7 3) Acer 4830TG Timeline - i5 Actually i also can pay extra for N53SN - i7 but got 2 major problems. 1) Keyboard i totally cant accept. 2) I heard this model is phase out? WIll they come back with new model with better keyboards? QUOTE(astria @ Apr 24 2011, 12:30 AM) Basically, Astria has pretty much summed it all up. If you have a problem with the keyboard then that would be an issue as you'll be stuck with it for a while. The alternative is the U41SV. A normal chiclet keyboard but it packs a GT540M which is good enough for anytime you can throw at it. Added on April 24, 2011, 12:37 am QUOTE(astria @ Apr 24 2011, 12:28 AM) And then it got heavier for some weird reason... This post has been edited by AlexLai: Apr 24 2011, 12:37 AM |

The newer laptops with Sandy Bridge procs can last around 3-4 hours now but the U41SV wipes the floor clean at 8 hours.

QUOTE(Vox @ Apr 24 2011, 01:42 AM) Meaning that without optimus this model I use for gaming can last only less than 2 hours? That suppose to be little. Why always everything is not perfect? If this model have optimise and 3.0 USB then no need think Liao Not really. Even with Optimus, you can only get 2 hours or less of gaming. It's there to toggle the lower power consumption Intel HD to the higher performance but power sucking Nvidia GPU when needed. So without Optimus, the hit in battery life comes when you are not doing anything intensive as even when idle, it still draws a reasonable amount of power. This post has been edited by AlexLai: Apr 24 2011, 02:35 AM |

QUOTE(willchua @ Apr 24 2011, 03:23 PM) U41SV more solid than U36JC? I thought it was the opposite? Not really. U36JC is solid, but it does bend a bit when you apply more force. The U41SV is a bit thicker and heavier with a more sturdy construction.Actually I like U36JC more because the body is AL-MG and the metal is thicker. Too bad the GPU is G310M. |
