Hmmm.... Looks like the key to long lasting batt life for 9900 is to disable 3G.
*
i guess so. 9700 could last me full 12hrs with 3G, but my 9900 would be dried in 7hrs (assuming the same usage).

luckily berry's data are all compressed and requires less bandwidth. so, EDGE will be sufficient for non-browsing activities.

but still, not using 3G is like limiting the usage experience. sigh....

hmmm... Official Celcom is .261 rite?
*
yup, .261.

the os5 tones are definitely not there at factory settings. however, i did install the tones later on, but a wipe from BBSAK should wipe the phone thoroughly and wipe the tones as well. but when i reload OS after the wipe, i still have the tones. funny....

Yes I have... But I want to use 100% wifi without the data plan on... That's not possible? Coz if I'm overseas, it's gonna cost me a bomb!
*
can. u can switch off your data and rely on wifi. try changing to a new simcard. i suspect you have a faulty siimcard.

honestly, i dont feel any battery improvements with .353 compared to .261.

however, i have been getting jvm errors/crashes from .261 and so fare, none with .353.

just use ur phone and settings as normal, but switch network to 2G only.

if on 3G, you might face dropped-lines. if your phone can get you thru the day, its good enough. smartphones are meant to be charged daily =)

Agreed - daily charge is fair. Multiple charge a day is not so ideal

But smartphones need 3G also, isn't it? Granted many things such as normal emails and twitter wouldn't need 3G, but how about the times that you do? Such as big attachments. Having 3G has been the selling point for most phones (will you buy a smartphone that doesn't?), but not being able to use it is like being shortchanged.
*
yup, you are right. having a 3g feature but not using it is not very smart. but the battery drain from 3g is somewhat related to our telcos. our 3g coverage is not very strong. hence when 3g is turned on, most often the phone will search for 3g signal rather then logging to it.

its the same concept of enabling wifi in an area without wifi coverage. the phone will keep on scanning for connectivity and causes battery drain. perhaps if our 3g network is strong, less scanning is required, hence longer battery life.
