They should make english as a subtitle for non-english overseas programmes.
*
I have said that many times but astro dont listen cause they are monopoly. Make the customer choose subtitle language and not force them to watch.

I noticed that AXN can now select the language subtitle (or make it disappear) instead of hard-code it.

Can I ask people here whether we can do that in discovery and history channel too ?

By the way, I don't subscribe to those channels bcos of the subtitles.

If I'm not mistaken, you can do it for all channels.
*
Not all channels !

Channel 702 diva still cannot make the subtitles disappear ! or change the language of subtitles.

Last time axn channel 701 cannot do that but now we can make subtitles disappear or change the language of subtitles thumbup.gif

Yes, you can. However, for HD channels, no subtitles are available, haha.
*
I am not asking for the BM subtitles but the choice of choosing subtitle language.

Or make the subtitle disappear.

Can anyone with the mini packages confirm ?

Discovery Channel got both Malay & Chinese subs, sometimes only Chinese subs are available (like latest Mythbusters episode) smile.gif
Are the malay and chinese subtitles displayed at same time (like NTV7) or we can choose only one subtitle at one time ?

Why you need to do that???  rclxub.gif

I'm very hate to watching NTV7 due to the both subtitles are blocking half of the screen..... doh.gif
*
That's why I DON'T WANT to see both subtitles in the screen. I only want to select one that I like or no subtitle so as not to clutter up the screen.

We are paying for the screen so we should have the choice.

I added Learning and Variety packages today and I am glad I can change the subtitle language or make it disappear

EXCEPT for FOX ! mad.gif what happened ?

Furthermore, the variety package sucks as it only contains two watchable channel FOX and Star world...

Not worth the money, is it better to get Cartoon or News instead of variety package ? can Anybody recommend ?

I don't have variety but I highly recommended you take cartoon. Anyway still there is a risk to take cartoon pack due to you might ends up just let your kids take charge the TV and astro by always watching 613 channel (Disney Junior)...
*
How about news package ? Is it better to get news or cartoon package ? which is more worth for money ? brows.gif

For me i prefer news package, cartoon pack too much ad n too frequent repeat.

Aljazeera = better views n balance in news.
CNN and BBC = gr8 coverage when big disaster happen.
Bloomberg = i dont watch coz i'm not into business or stock market.
Aussie Net = gr8 down under prog with drama, aussie football and travel show. I like their 2hour music video prog call RAGE.
CNBC = Jay Leno show, comedy central.

hmm.gif I think you're right but why ASTRO don't include channel news asia ? mad.gif

I saw it in thailand and it is very good.

Channel News Asia often airs news that dont sit well with our government..and I tell u something..if people in the north, east coast, west coast of Malaysia and also Sabah and Sarawak get CNA, the government might lose substansial support from these people..so I dont see it ever coming in to Astro..Im not sure if the feed that I get in Johor is the same or not as that of Unifi but what I get is a breath of fresh air comard to the government flavoured RTM and TV3 news..just search Channel News Asia'e reports on YouTube regarding last week's rally and bouyh u could see the difference on the news and reort we got and what they gave..

I think Astro sucks !

Thailand and all other countries in Asia can get CNA but not Malaysia. Talk about 'democracy'.

Anyway, I would rather have another TRUE English channel such as Canadian broadcasting rather than Al jazeera which is an Arab channel whistling.gif

If we can't get the one from Singapore...

English official languages in these countries:
USA
UK
Australia
Canada

Singapore (for those news from East Asia)

Might care to mind our words here..regardless of the origins of channels, better not overstep the racists boderline..not saying u are one but people might take it differently..just a piece of advice icon_rolleyes.gif

What I mean is why go and broadcast a far away arab English channel when

1. This is not an official English country such as UK, USA, Australia, Canada

2. It is not an East Asia country (includes SEA) where news are more relevant.

Singapore or Thailand English Channels would be more relevant as these countries are closer physically to Malaysia even though they don't fall under criteria 1 above.

What happen in Singapore or Thailand can have immediate effect on Malaysia as they are our nearest neighbours, yet we hardly hear any news on them.

You made a point pal, this our politics we  just refuse to allow other asian news channels tjust bcos the ruling govt fears the rakyat might know how stinky they had been. The recent closure of Tj. pagar KTM station was one ,it was so sad to see our land go , spore channels carried so much news abt it but here we were talking crap! The rakyat is made to believe and imagine that we are the best doh.gif
*
Agree with you.

If we want govt propaganda, we can watch those free to air TV1, TV2 TV3, NTV7, TV8, TV9, Awani (astro), Bernama (astro) rclxub.gif
8 Channels still not enough meh ? laugh.gif

The problem is some of us want to pay money to receive more balanced news.

Sad to say, the average people here who don't travel overseas don't know much about Thailand or Singapore even though they are our closest neighbours. Even Thailand, Indonesia, Philipines, Taiwan, HK allows English news from Singapore.

Apparently, Package 1 is tailored more to Malays, whilst Package Two is for Indians, & Package 3 is more suitable for Chinese.
Not saying that to be racist, as I know there are people that watch programmes in other language, but they are not many.

why chinese packages always the most expensive ? cry.gif

How do I go thru my selection of Favorites? Hv oledi marked those Channels 2b my Favorites BUT pressing Fav button on remote does NOT do anything! sad.gif

Pls somebody help...?? TQ very much! notworthy.gif
*
This favourite button is not as good as the old system.

You must do the following steps

1. Press OK button

2. When the screen at bottom show the channel description, press favourite button

It will only go forward and NO backwards (unlike the old system)

If bottom screen disappear, press OK again. whistling.gif (really stupid design)

Yup, not as good as old white / red "star (*)" symbol appearing & simple matter of moving thru all fav ch either way! Worst of all, NO guide at all in manual! sad.gif
*
Let's hope that lowyat.net ASTRO customer service manager (forgot what his name) reads all the complaints here and go back to the OLD design where we can go forward or backward by just pressing ONE button instead of TWO buttons. mad.gif

suggest to write in to astro (from website) and the more complaint they have, they would look at releasing a new firmware for it
*
let all of us write to the same website and complain about the favorites button.

I also suggest they reduce the size of the remote control as it is larger than the old one.

where is the website link ?

Hi Guys, Anyone using Byond PVR? I need the dimension/measurements of the PVR Decoder box for built-in cabinets. Tried calling Astro helpdesk twice and all I got was on-hold by the agent for 10 minutes and then call got disconnected. Ugh !
*
i have bad experience with msian govt 'customer service'.

if they ask me to hold, after 1 min, if they don't come back, i hang up and call again.

Is there a way for my PVR to directly connect to my speakers ?

My speakers doesn't have amplifier.

I am currently connecting via my TV headphone output but the sound becomes less sharp when coming from TV.
