HI fellow Unifi users,

I currently have Unifi installed at my home and I would like to perform SSH/port forwarding.

My settings as follows:
At the Virtual Server (port forwarding page), I created a customised setting "SSH"
Public IP - Blank
Public Port - 55522
Private IP - 192.168.1.200 (my desktop host)
Private port - 22 (the default port on OpenSSH)

At the Firewall filter I set it to "Allow" for the above IP/ports

At my desktop I configured OpenSSH and it is tested to be working both locally and via another host in the same LAN.

However I have not been able to even perform a simple SSH connection test from a remote client from office.

It was ok when I was using streamyx and a Linksys router. In fact the setup was quite trivial!

I did however managed to port forward for my bittorrent port which is opened correctly and verified via external port checking tool sites.

Any one out there who managed to set up SSH and port forwarding correctly and care to share the steps? Appreciate your help!

Hi all,

I managed to fix the problem. Somehow if I use another public port other than 22 for SSH the port forwarding to my desktop does not work.
Now If you do use port 22 in the public port, this cannot be entered by default. In fact an error msg "Port in use, Please Check" will pop out.
This happens because the router remote management is using it already.

To fix this, follow these steps, my router is type G2 firmware 7.09:
- Login to the Dlink-615 router, you need the "operator" login (password can be retrieved from this site http://unifi.athena.my/router_security.html).
- Go to Maintenance --> Device Administration --> Remote Management
- TICK Enable Remote SSH
- Change the port to a dummy port.

- Save the settings
- Now UNTICK Enable Remote SSH and Save Settings
- Go to Advances --> Port Forwarding
- Now you are able to enter Public Port: 22 and Save Settings.
- You may now test the SSH connection from an external host, it should be able to reach you desktop host now.

To use another port for ssh.

Put in the external port as whatever port your want, eg, 2222 then internal make it 22.

Example,

internal ip:port <--- external ip:port
192.168.1.10:22 <--- 175.188.123.88:2222
