Hi, this is my first time on this forum. I've been through the thread and thought this might be the place to get advice on my 2x. I just got it about a week ago and I've got some questions...

First of all, why do people root their phone?

Then how does it increase the performance? I mean like after rooting, do you get options to enhance the speed or something??? Or after rooting you get to do install something fancy to speed up the phone?

I'm a first time android user, so I've got 0 info on the whole root/flash concept. Any kind soul willing to help? I've never done anything to the phone before, it runs on v10b.

*Edit*

Is there any place in KL to buy the phone case? I"ve seen some on ebay (jelly silicone mercury case) but I don't make online purchases -.-'' Help pls~

The basic thing about root is that it allows access to system files.  That in turn allows you to do things like:

Install custom ROM
Theme your phone
Backup your phone

Usually custom ROMs are the main reason, as most will include tweaks that increase performance.

Example there are custom kernels out now that frees up 64MB RAM and allows overclock to 1.5ghz.  Fun stuff like that smile.gif

So by rooting your phone it just gives you more access and thats it? The whole increase performance thing is with the custom roms/ kernels?

yup~~ root ur phone is just like giving u the power to do something that the developer do
u have to flash to custom rom only can increase ur performance

Let's just assume I'm just an average user, not those power consumer out there.. am I missing a great deal with choosing not to root/flash my phone..? I'm not all that tech savvy as well.. So should I just stick to the stock and wait for the Android 2.3 update..?

Thanks for answering.

If it isn't too troublesome do let me know the shop name..if there's any....

Thanks~!

Hello, I need a little help again..

When you run apps on this phone, how do you exit it? I mean is it ok for me to just press home button or do I spam the back button till i get out of the app? Also stuffs like music player and messaging.. After I use those, and I wanna go back to the home screen I just press the home button, or the back button till it exits..?

Sorry this has been a relatively new experience for me..so please do help me!

Android apps that has been close will stay at background for a while, then it'll hibernate and close by itself, dont worry too much about that, if u still concern, download some task killer in Market to kill it instantly.  smile.gif

So do I press the home button to go back out of everything then? Coz sometimes I just press the back button till it goes out of the app -.-'''

Your apps will stay running for a period of time if u press the home button to exit, better just exit the apps instead using back button if u care.
*
I mean for apps that don't have the exit thingy. After I use the apps, and I want to exit, I press back. Then a pop up will ask me do I want to exit or cancel exit. This is ok I suppose.. But some apps just exits into the application page the moment you press back. I'm worried that I might be running everything in the background because they don't say the program has been closed.

LOL at 'is gonna explode', it is normal to feel temperature rise when gaming but the explode part is kinda scary, my phone quote around 40~42 degree when gaming, still kinda normal i think.  hmm.gif

The problem is it stings your finger touching that small portion of the screen. It actually burns and the side of the phone just started becoming hot after around 20 minutes of playing. I mean seriously hot till knot hold in hand that type of hot..
Should I take the phone to the shop or something..? Btw how did you measure the temperature?

Hello, I'm wondering what's up with the battery usage page. I've recently checked it and found the app LG Home to be using 50% of the battery.. Idk why but after all those times this LG Home wasn't there. It was just until a few days ago. Usually the only thing using the battery would be display, calls, and cellphone idle. What's up with this? Any help?

I also notice this, anyone replaced the LG Home with others like ADW? Can I remove the LG Home using Root Explorer? Another known problem will be the Dialer which always top under "Partial Wake State"
*
I didn't root my phone..it runs on stock ROM. But I did however found the ADW Launcher Ex for free.. which I used and found no problems. Then a few days ago I switched back to original launcher for like 2 minutes and then back to ADW. After that the LG Home tops the list on the items that's been draining my battery.

Hello again people, i've got some questions again..

When you guys reboot the phone, does the lg logo appear laggy..? Somehow today mine just seemed to freeze on the lg sign for like 10 sec before blinking right to the unlock sim card screen..-.- no animation of anything.

Before I rebooted my phone, the wifi showed error beneath it when I try to turn it on. Then the music player says it can't recognise the files and won't play a thing.

Scrolling becomes laggy as well..-.- whattt the heck is wrong with the phone T,T

It all went away after the reboot, but just rather bothered with the wifi and music player problem. Advice please?

Try wiping cache and dalvik cache, if the problem still occur please update here
*
How is that done...-.- fml I'm damn noob in this sort of stuff..

But on another note, I've rebooted the phone and it's working normally. The music player failed on me twice. The first was the sd card not being detected. Second time was when with the wifi error together -.-

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback. I'm not sure what I's running in the background. I'm doing factory reset again this morning v10b. I'm using ATK Rechild and Go Pro Laucher EX: found out the running program always conflicting. Also I notice the Sprite Backup become stock as this not in the v10a before, always running like the Car Home. Yesterday I'm not activating the F-secure as reported not stable, however try activating it today. I'm not sure whether the standard v10b is the main cause (but this is updated through LG PC Suite). Any idea?

Anyway some of programs installed yesterday (suspected conflict):
ATK rechild
Android System Info
Auto Memory Manager
Go Launcher EX 2.30
Gemini App Manager 1.7.0
Little Photo 4.2.6.
My Settings 1.9.0
Quick boot 4.1
Mini Info
Vignete 2011.01.17 (Installer in small but I check 30+MB in SD)
Startup Auditor

I still can't figure out the drain battery problem. Never experience this in other phone and also if everyday drain sure the Li-on won't.

BIG problem I have with this phone so far:
v10a: suddenly shutoff, battery overheat during charging and then shutoff. Need to cabut battery then start.
v10b: Less overheat, but draining every morning (2 days in a row after update)
**For me its unacceptable if its cause by manufacturing defect or unstable software**

All the 2x user what say you? hehe I'm TIRED!!!!
*
Lol, that seemed like a really big problem. I'm no professional but as much as I know after updating through LG, for me the battery life improved dramatically.

Before update 3hrs of use = battery die. After update moderate 20+ hrs of use = around 5% battery left. If left overnight while I sleep, it will only use about 1-2%

I did however experience a very hot phone when I play games on it for too long.. 2+ hrs of non stop angry bird = around 30-40% battery gone biggrin.gif Idk if that's ok or not but never really had much issue with the battery life. Plus, college has got wifi, I surf the net quite often too.
