For a starter, u can try soundstage 1.5 which is a hybrid. after u are bored with the sound, get a pair of Mullard/telefunken tubes and mod the solid state to 55W. that will give u a booost to hifi.
*
soundstage 1.5 about rm 1.4k. get mullard tubes for rm 400 then get a good power cable for rm 400.enufflaa no need to upgrade to se.these addition will make difference already. i have soundstage 1.5 before.with mullard tube...good details, hooked up with supra power cable more solid sound, then upgraded to se (for rm 400) better soundstage.that amp sold already smile.gif i believe amp is very important to your system.
i used to listen ma br 2 with stock soundstage.very good with that give price on amp or you can try solid state amp like marantz, nad or cambridge audio.
also try to get good entry level cd player like marantz cd 6002 at rm 1.4k.also you can use any cheap cd player and get zero dac (look for zero dac thread)this dac is very keng at cheap price.but sold already
you need to try first mate, hybrid amp or solid state amp...then you decidelaa what to buy.
also you need a good speaker stand for ma br2 for about rm 350.
amcorp mall(gots many hi shop there), desa lowyat, tong lee are some good place for you to go.

Need Budget Stereo Integrated Amp with phono Input
Budget RM1000 only :-(

for simple general purpose audio listening (classical, metal, 80's pop, opera)
*
with that budget you go for second hand item, if you don't mind.
please check at hifi4sale.blog a lot of second hand item overthere.
metal and classic......then better go solid state amp.

May I know that a good cdp intergreted with good DAC (say, Marantz KI series) better or a normal cdp (say, Marantz CD5002) with a decent DAC (say, computer external DAC, such as Zero, etc) better?
*
hard to say.depend on the budget.i used to have marantz cd 5001 and zero dac (stand alone dac).really have good time and fun with this combo. you can change opamp from one to another until you got the right one.
then i used marantz cd 6002 with zero dac (with opamp 657).tested against marantz ki cdp with soundstage 1.5amp.speaker = epos m12.2.
for me both gave same kind of sound.almost identical.of course marantz cd 6002 with zero dac cheaper than marantz ki series.
right know i'm using rega apollo cd player which give better details and transparent.
btw everything depend on your ear(not other people ears) and your budget.

onkyo 606 for 2800? dammit man. US selling for usd360-400 only. Crazy place la malaysia.

looking for something similar to onkyo 606 maybe sony str-dg920 or 820. but wishing it to be nearer 2k than 3k.
anyone can recommend? i wanna know what dts hd sounds like from a bluray.
*
maybe you should try to look for yamaha amp.
if you really want to know how dts hd sound i will suggest you to go to desa lowyat.
ask them to hook up amp (yammy and onkyo) with blur ray player. they got pioneer, sammy, sony and panny.
forget about what the salesman going to tell you.let your ears be the judge. smile.gif
before using pioneer blu ray i got denon dvd 1940 as my source.
picture quality.....of course blue ray better.
audio quality.... so far my denon dvd player still better than sub rm2k blue ray player
