IMO, Good sound quality is subject... Just like looking for quality gals... There are gals with sexy looking, mature looking, kawaii loooking, sweet looking etc...

I found most people do not appreciate really high quality HiFi and just interested on heavy bass... Just like BIG Boobs..

I myself sometime also troubled... It seems might have to get at least 2 sets for different music... headache.. Well, I guess maybe that's the reason why there are guys out there with more than one gf...

Dear sifus here,

I'm currently in search for home stereo system for my upcoming dedicated room. I'm totally new in the HiFi game and need some recommendation and guide. Kinda confuse between floorstander and bookshelf @.@

My requirement of the speakers are open to many types of music genre from vocals, pop, metals, rock, electronics, epic and etc. Need something with fast response, dynamic, warm, good separation with clarity, sweet mids, extended highs without harsh and piercing. I guess some of those feature can be tweek by dacs or amps.

I was just surfing the net and came by a few brand and models.
1. Harbeth Super HL-5
2. Focal Electra 1008 Be
3. Neat Acoustics

May i have your opinions of them? As i have shallow knowledge for speakers i would certainly open for more recommendation of other brands or series.
*
I love the Electra 1008 BE for its superb details and perfect smoothness. I think ATC 100 (RM100k) also lost a bit on high freq smoothness to his small fellow. But some say the Electra is too smooth and no characters... Well... I know it is subjective... For me, I just faill in love for it.

However, the Electra 1008 BE is not without flaw, the bass response kind of really sucks... I suspect it is done in purpose so it will not threaten its higher end models like Utopia Diablo. Not sure if it is a good idea to use sub to compliment back the Electra.

No doubt Electra 1008 BE is a good pair of speakers but since they aren't able to provide me on the bass response so it's not ideal for me.

I wish you had bought the Electra and want to sell off now.... I am sure will be the potential buyer... drool.gif

How bout PMC's ? I heard they produce british sound signatures which is natural, clear and smooth and non british bass. Which means good bass respond. Eyeing on the PMC OB1i and PB1i but the price were kinda steep.

Wanna compare the PMC with Neat Acoustic Elite SX which is much cheaper but haven't heard them myself

No idea on the rest... Any suggestion on where can listen to them? cool.gif

Any Malaysia address that we can actually hear the performance of the speakers.

Personally I do not care about brands and the speakers' origin (UK, US etc). I just want a decent sound like those from Focal Electra + acceptable looks. The Roger and ATC looks are terrible.... sweat.gif

hi all sifu here, i plan to have Marantz CD5004. i am using harman kardon AVR260 +JBL venue series speaker. Any idea whether it is match? hehe, i plan to test it next week but just would like to ask some opinion first before i go. thanks......

Hi... my question might sound like a noob.

Why not just get a Marantz AV Amp + Wharfedale Diamond series speakers?

So once we bought new audio CD, just rip everything into wave files and copy into USB. Then plug the USB directly into the AV Amp.

Cheaper, easier... and maybe better sound~

Thanks for the reply. but i have AVR and speaker already and only plan to buy a  CD player. cool.gif
no enough budget to buy new Amp and speaker doh.gif

Personally, I tried to avoid CD players... It seems CD players can spoilt due to mechanical part... ejection tray... motor or belt for spinning the disc... Or even laser to read the disc...

But CD player has its advantages la... Example: My friends come to visit me and bring his CD... immediately can test la.

from your experience, you feel playing music via USB will be better than CD?
*
For those with CD player, if they connect to the AV Amp via optical / coaxis digital, they are using the amp DAC.

It is the same for me to play via the wave file directly on the amp.

Personally, I would hope amp has DLNA audio support... That's will be the best thumbup.gif

thanks for the sharing. thumbup.gif
are you using Windows Media Player to rib it?
*
Anything that can rip wave files la... I dun bother to compress using FLAC as storage is never an issue by today tech.

Btw, if CD player DAC is better than AV amp, then no need to use AV amp one la... But that CD player will be expensive one... brows.gif

Im using Marantz AVR SR6006 connected via ANALOGUE RCA interconnect to my Marantz CD5004. I also tried connecting via digital and I am very sure:

1. CD audio sounds better via analogue
2. Same song even if I were to rip to 320kbps and play direct via USB from my AVR still cannot beat the sound from CD..assume we play ori CD and not pasar malam mp3 decompressed to rm5 type CD.

I only uses my USB connection and iPod connected to my AVR for vocal less music otherwise it sounds very flat playing from digital USB source compared to warmer and more detail from cd of the same song.

This is my entry level view..I'm sure higher end system can get even more clarity and hear further difference between USB (assume mp3 or wma) and CD Audio via analogue.

Hi there,

IMO, it is a very bad idea to encode your CD into MP3 even at the so call 320kbps and play via AV amp.

As long as it is lossy compression, the fine details are gone and it is unfair comparison...

Just got my Mission MX-1 speakers (for laptop) .

Looking for an AMP that's suitable for that speakers. Currently using my old Topping TP30 DAC/AMP 10watts for 8ohms .

Will it be sufficient enough ? If not , what would an ideal solution ?

Budget around 1K - 1.5K for amp

Thanks

Highly recommend Marantz PM6005 with built high quality DAC. It is a very fine amp... Soon your speaker will be the limiting factor. brows.gif

Once bought and if not happy enough, PM me and I buy from you with some discount price. My dream amp... notworthy.gif

Still owe you a review. Really need some time this weekend. Amp underused! tongue.gif

Since underutilised, thought of selling to people that better use the amp? Really buyer here brows.gif

QUOTE(karhoe @ Oct 24 2013, 10:06 PM)
I just didn't feel like spending so much on subwoofer, I don't need a very heavy bass effect.

But for the sake of argument, what kind of subwoofer would you suggest then?

Cheers!
*
Well... You buy so good amp... And that's a HT amp. And for HT, most important is the center and the sub. Thus you should really invest on these 2 component. With such a good amp, you can even consider KEF R600C and minimum a 12" sub around RM4k or more.
If no good sub and center, what's the point of getting such a good amp in the first place? Onkyo 818 right?

The current setup is for the sitting room and yes, I find the bass lacking. Now I need something for the man cave. I have already booked the Krell S-550i integrated amp and the Krell S-350a CD player from Norman Audio. All I need now is a pair of loudspeakers and Ivan from Norman Audio says to keep away from ATC, ProArc & Dynaudio as these are a bit "slow". I intend to get the new loudspeakers below 15 grand. Any recommendations?
*
Krell S-550i is a fine amp.

IMO, ATC is overrated to my ears. The only good one is those more expensive ATC 100, which is huge and have big sound. But at RM100k, its high still lost to Focal Utopia Scalar, which is much more airy.

Dynaudio speaker on the other hand, is okay (general freq response across 3 range are acceptable, but never great. It lack of excitement. The price and performance ratio is no good.

I can suggest you to get Focal Electra 1038 BE, which truly impreseds as the cheapest realistic sound speakers that I had heard.

Anyway, it is just my ears. cool2.gif

Hello my fellow audiophile friends, what good bookshelf speakers do you recommend for price range around rm1000 which matches a tube amp of 14 watt per channel? And a bit of technical, how does the speaker resistance matter to the tube amp?
*
IMO, the cheapest musical speaker is Monitor Audio BX2 thumbup.gif
