Do you just want the speakers alone or with Amp and CD Player Included?

QUOTE(ET668 @ May 6 2014, 06:06 PM)
Hi guys,

I am a total newbie in this area, please do provide me some insight on this..

I have an extra room, more than 30 square meter, and decide to make it a room for music enjoyment, home theater and also some 'Karaoke'.

To achieve all these, I went to check out some Karaoke system. Found the speakers (BMB) to be unsatisfactory (too boomy in the small room, no gap between wall and speaker like any ordinary Karaoke room. Mid range which is important for human voice, is also not very good).

So I asked if I could use their Karaoke system on some other good speakers, the seller then told me that it would not be ideal to use high-end speaker for Karaoke use as Karaoke requires louder sound and most speaker would not be able to withstand the workload and stress.

Before this, I got to know about MartinLogan's ESL series electrostatic speakers, which are able to convey the air and speed of movie and most importantly, music. However, as those family members also want to use those speakers for Karaoke, I wonder if those speakers could withstand the extra load as told by the Karaoke seller.

Thank you very much in advance for your help. Very much needed and appreciated!

Try not to use any other speakers for karaoke other than that meant for the task. Normal speakers would not be able to handle the High stress load on mids caused by the users voices. It does not matter whether it's high end speakers or not. However, unless your karaoke server and amp has pre out or digital out, I dont think you can attach a seperate DAC/AMP to it.

Do you want a 5.1 surround system or a powerful 3.1? I believe I can work something out for you.

Hi, thanks for your reply.

So the load on mids is the biggest problem  hmm.gif  But sometimes I wonder if those speakers can handle movies (especially explosions), why can't they handle mids... sorry I don't know much about this...

The karaoke server only has HDMI or RCA (Red and White and Yellow) output.  smile.gif

Is 5.1 surround sound or the powerful 3.1 suitable for Karaoke? It is one of the biggest purpose also...  unsure.gif
*
Mids deals with voices in general. At least from a disc or HDD, it's steady. Now imagine 4-5 different people singing in vastly different tones, decibels and styles. That's a lot of strain there.

HDMI should work I guess. But again, not recommended using normal speakers for karaoke. You could use a different amp/DAC to power the karaoke speakers itself though.

The 5.1 or 3.1 system is directed at your RM15k Sound System Query. Haha. You wanted a separate proper sound system right?

Oh, I see  doh.gif

I haven't bought anything so far. I just went to a karaoke reseller and auditioned those 'BMB' speakers. The karaoke system itself is quite simple, utilizing a touch screen, about 60000 KTV songs inside and capable of playing HD movies when connected to Hard disk and thumbdrive.

Ideally I wish to get an all in one system. The music source itself may not be hi-res (such as 192/24bit or DSD), it is quite ok. It will be best if I can just add speaker amp (or also preamp) and a pair of speakers to the setup.

I really don't wish to buy those BMB ones. But since you kindly pointed out that it is not a possible compromise and no normal speaker could withstand the load of mids, i think mostly I will settle on either movie and music or Karaoke alone..

Or did I missed out that the 5.1 and 3.1 proper system can do all 3 tasks easily?  rolleyes.gif

Sorry to pop your bubble mate, haha. No such thing as a home theater/music/karaoke combo system. You gotta keep it separate.

You could get the karaoke system first and maybe uogarde by adding on a separate music/movie system later on I guess.

Hi,

Thanks for your suggestion all along. I think I need to make more consideration and research.

BTW, should I decide to see what your 3.1 and 5.1 system, is there any chance I can hear it in JB? And most ultimately, have it delivered to the doorstep with setup should I decide to buy?
*
No worries. smile.gif

Sorry mate, we are mostly based in Klang Valley. But we do ship products to your doorstep though. But if you want nearby we have a outlet in Singapore itself. PM me if you want the addresses for our KL or Singapore store.

Dear all sifus, I need your advice should I go for piomeer lx57 or yamaha 2030? What is the price for those model? Thanks. How about 3030 or lx87?
*
In terms if sound, yes, while the AV Recievers cannot fight true HiFi Stereo amps, but the latest AVs have came in along way. I prefer the LX57 for its more darker, dynamic sounds, it's a favourite amongst my collegues. More fun than the Yamaha's flat nuetral sound, which works more for movies rather than music.

I sell both. PM me if you're interested. smile.gif

Yep, I ordered the Krells from Norman Audio but Ivan Cheng seems disinterested to sell them to me. I first contacted him more than three weeks ago and till today (and after I have requested the invoice from him time and time again) I have yet to get it from him. Perhaps he deems a MYR30,000 sale not quite up to his standard. Been extremely patient but enough is enough. How hard is it to issue an invoice? I didn't even asked him about the exact price as I was more than willing to pay whatever he asked for but the excuses and alibis for the delays are rather unacceptable. I have a MYR50,000 budget but if I can't get what I want i.e. the Krells, I might just as well keep my Marantz system.
*
For that budget I can set you up with a full 5.1 DALI Mentor Series setup, and then some. sweat.gif

Maybe Krell has not been able to send him units? Did he say it was ready stock when your ordered?

Yep. He said he had it in his warehouse. He assured me that.
I had always wanted a Krell but couldn't afford it until recently.
I once had a Mark Levinson No,7 when I was in Australia but still fancied the Krells.

I enquired from Hiway Laser a week ago. Guess what? Still no response.
What is it with these hifi vendors anyway?
*
Well, I honestly am sorry for you not being able to get the setup you want. Those are awesome speakers. Is there anyone else you could contact for the Krells?

I usually only recommend stuff that's available in store. I forgot how many times I have to say no because we didn't have that model in hand. I'm also doing this part time , there is sometimes regrettable delay on my part for not being in store all the time, and I owe some people here replies too, but for them to delay up to three weeks I can't explain.

I wish you well in hunting for those fav speakers of yours. thumbup.gif

Thank you. I wish myself well too but I know it ain't gonna happen.
Anyone out there know of any "non-snobbish" vendors that sells Krell equipment?
Perhaps I should wear my Patek this time around instead of my cheap Rolex. Kakakakakakaka
*
I doubt they'd noticed the difference between the Patek and Rolex. Hahaha.

I'll see if I can find another vendor. But you've basically asked the two main ones already. Let's hope they reply to you soon. smile.gif
