well, I heard of Mcintosh, but the price make me stop shocking.gif

Hushymushy's Audio Research prices will stop you dead rclxm9.gif
So will the setup of a few other members here
Hi end hifi is not a cheap hobby rclxub.gif
Top end cables and connectors alone will kill your bank account
Work hard, save hard (like myself) rolleyes.gif and you will be able to afford the McIntosh

No worries, be vicious on the comments if you want. So things to do to improve on my acoustics right now are:
1. Add distance from rear wall to speaker.
2. Get a proper stand.

Because starting sub pace  I dont understand a single thing after that.  sweat.gif To google I go!
*
Don't worry...all us amp heads talk in riddles. Sub pace means how fast the sound comes out from the subwoofer as compared to your main speakers. You don't want a noticeable gap between what your main speakers are blaring out and your subwoofer catching up half a second later. 2ndly, low pass n high pass frequencies are what their respective name implies but these are merely filters to filter out unwanted frequencies. You should be more worried about the phase.

Hi all sifus, i wanna start to get into this speakers world and ditch the basic pc speakers.
i have a budget of 2k only and i want a system that focus on musics only (i am not a fan of movie).
i listen more of instrumental songs, soundtracks, vocal songs, normal bass requirement..
any recommendation?
*
MYR2K for speakers alone or for entire system ler?

Get the PM8005 instead. 70W into 8 ohms compared to 45W for the PM6005.
Or get the Marantz PM11S3 (100W) or better still get the PassLabs X350.5 or XS300 whistling.gif

*
Wouldn't have a clue cos I already have 2 amps and not looking at Marantz anymore.
Ask me how much my next target is (PassLabs XS150) and I can tell you

I think 2k for the entire system is impossible sad.gif
But I have limited budget. Will I be able to upgrade the configuration in the future if I only get the speakers only?
*
Of Course!!! Start small and upgrade along the way. A few years later and you'd have replaced entirely your original setup. Amps, Speakers, Cables, Interconnects, Power Cables, Conditioners, Stands, Feet etc.

Pokai Betul. Ask Hushymushy about his soundproofing (hee...hee...)

Tell you what...even if the price of the PassLabs won't kill you, the bloody heat sinks at the sides will.
If my guess is correct, I think the PM8005 will cost around MYR5K whereas the PM11S3 will cost around MYR20K
Wait around a bit and hopefully these prices will drop a bit. Marantz not cheap these days

So any brand recommendation that I can look into? biggrin.gif

My preference is Dynaudio (made in Denmark, not China). Checkout CMY's shop in Sg. Wang and audition the models they have there.

well for starters....let me think....

2k......if u can up a little bit of budget

speakers:
XLS Encore - smooth, mid bass is quite tasteful, easily driven by most amps
price: 1290 from curve acoustics

amps:
used Audiolab 8000A going for d price of 1k
i have the 8000A MK2, paired with a Marantz CD6000 KI Edition and Usher S502 bookshelve.....man....it can really rock.....now i missed this system coz its with my father in law.....

it not....NAD 3020i, used market about 600.....this little amp packs a punch
old but gold

cables you can order from forummer Black Octagon......he sells quite good affordable cables
*
Bro...wake up oredy ah? People spending 2K on speakers alone lah
How's the soundproofing? Alvin still got kacau you or not these days?

hey bro.....early early wake up d

soundproofing is on going....

his budget 2k, not necessary to spend all 2k mer...its about best options
and without amp buy speaker no point right
*
2K very small amount to spend on hifi lah...might as well get a pair of reasonable speakers now, save again for some other component later. If all 2K spent on everything then all he gets is a very very very mediocre system.

I think he's got amp oredy lah. If no amp, then your way is best option

wow, that a bit too big for my taste  sweat.gif , so "cow" ady, I prefer something just enough and compact, you know sth like Hegel H80  drool.gif
*
The picture you are looking at is a kopi table lah (not cow)...nice height plus the heat emanated from it can keep your kopi nice and warm...best is it also acts as an amp for all the kopi house music. Also, if you had titbits in those "unopenable" plastic wraps, the killer heat sinks at the sides can act as a razor edge knife plus the fact that once you place it where you want to, nobody can move your kopi table around. BTW...it comes as a pair, so got 2 kopi tables. Save on other furniture in the house.

To all the sifus out there,
Can recommend a top solid state setup (no tubes)? I am now seriously looking at the PassLabs XS150 monoblocks & the XS preamp but open to any suggestions. This system will be connected to my existing Krell S-350 CD player via Nordost Valhalla 2 XLR interconnects and to my SF Guarneri Evo via Nordost Valhalla 2 cables. I am also looking at the D'Agostino Momentum monoblocks & preamp but is afraid that the SF Guarneri Evo cannot handle the load at 4 Ohms.

GI Jie.....Passlabs certainly the way to go
you have my vote on that...

while you are looking into that....seriously...your cdp may not match up to the passlabs..something you might want to consider in balancing the system sound....
*
Ya lor...maybe Accuphase

I need sifus recommendation over here.
I am looking to purchase my first hifi system with details below:

Budget: RM4000
Items: 5.1 speakers + amplifier + speaker cables

Others requirement:
- prefer punchy type of bass
- minimalist/small size design as all speaker going to hang on the wall
- 100sqft room size

Usage:
- Movie & music, source from HTPC sound card and graphic card.
- Music emphasize on vocal type
- Action movie oriented
Currently offer I get is like below with RM3900 price:
- Wharfedale DC-1HCP
- Denon amplifier
- Monters speaker cable
- Wireworld sub-woofer cable
- Installation and tuning included
*
To get real punchy bass, get an amplifier with a Sub Out to a subwoofer. That will settle your bass requirements. As for hanging the speakers on the wall, I don't think it is advisable to do so. Try whatever system you have with the speakers on the ground and hanging against the wall and you will know what I mean. Lastly, whatever you do, don't get Monster cables. Over rated and expensive. If you are really set on purchasing Monster Cables, get a length of electrical cables instead. Bet you can't hear the difference.

Got the Bose SoundLink Colour bluetooth speaker for my daughter yesterday at Atlas Hifi in Midvalley for MYR670. While I was there, they were demonstrating the SoundTouch 30 Series II system and I was really surprised with the sound from such a small unit. Punchy bass, melodic mids and clear treble. Heavy though...but it beats the SoundTouch systems hands down.
