Ya...he was like selling the AR equipment but I just don't fancy tubes. Took him 20+ minutes to warm them up before be blasted the Guaneris (using the Vahalla 2 cables). Eagle's Hotel California. That sold me and he is now borrowing me his 2.5m Vahalla 2 cables cos I wanted only 2m which he said will take 2 months to arrive. We talked about the Passlabs XS which he said he will import it for me when I am ready. Estimated about 300 cos he can get it cheaper and I don't have to change my guaneris but he said he is willing to take back the guaneri evo should I upgrade to the amatis or liliums.

Oh yes...he has a pair of The Sonus Faber (still in crates) which he said he is willing to sell me at 250. Only 1 in Malaysia. I ask him to sell it to you instead. Kakakakakakaka. He said that he will try.

Chino, why is it that 3 phase is not likely gonna be an option for you? You do not need TNB to convert your current single phase to 3 phase, in fact an experienced electrician can do it as well. Won't cost much...under 1k.

Chino, nice setup, man...2 subs? Hell, and I tot I was the bass-head here.

Stuffing your equipment into an enclosed cabinet is not a "hot" option as those amps do produce quite a bit of heat and though the rear vents do dissipate a bit of the generated heat, I dun think it will be enuf. However, it does look all tidy and nice behind wooden doors as such. Stop moaning about the aesthetic of your room. You shud see mine - all piled up into a wooden stand that is just about unable to withstand the weight of it all, so much so that it actually sags in the middle. (I have a plasma tv and these weigh quite a bit as compared to the LCDs and LEDs).

As for the 3 phases gig, get an electrician to do it. Yes, a new TNB meter and stuff but every electrician worth his salt will have a TNB fella in the back of his hip pocket and he will "kowtim" everything. I changed mine a few months ago. Less than 1k total as luckily my entire house didn't need rewiring cos the existing wires were 9awg coils.

If I were you, I'd hide those subs. Mine is already tucked away when I changed my amp cos Krells dun have a sub-out which is why I changed my speakers from Dynaudio
to Sonus Faber. Used to own a set of B&W a bleary long time ago and the bass sounded alright then (but not now as once you have auditioned a SF, you are slave for life to it - ask Hushymushy).

Lastly, if I were you, I'd just get a good 7ch sound processor. Krell has one called the Chorus 7200. They also have a 3ch and another 5ch version to suit your taste. No sub-out though but with a Krell, you dun really need one.

My two cents worth

Alamak! AR CD player still not considered one of the God equipment? Perhaps Accuphase?

V2 1.5 mtr - 26k
V2 2 mtr - 30k

Phew!!!

Any recommendation for budget interconnect cables and speaker cables? Was thinking about DH labs.. was qouted around 550 for both interconnect and speaker cables.

What kind of system r we talking abt here? No point recommending you any cables unless we know what equipment you r gonna pair it with.

B&W 625 S2? Never heard of it so I can't make any judgment on it.
Junsuke, are you inquiring about cables or speakers? (Or both?)
Best advice I can give you is to audition both and get the one that you like.
If you require more professional advice, call Alvin at Perfect Hifi
He'll probably try to sell you the entire Valhalla 2 range but don't let that offend you.
He'll probably try to sell you the Sonus Faber speakers as well.
But then again, he does has quite a few used speakers for sale which might be better than the ones you chose.
A used Sonus Faber in good condition is way better than a brand new B&W 625 or Q-A Concept 20.

i'll consider the 1.5 meter or 2 meter.....min 1.5meter....
some how the bass extension is better with 1.5m to 2meter

and because usually you want to have some space between the cd and amp.....so a slightly longer cable will be good

i think the price is reasonable giving transparent reference is around the same range, and that is not the top of the range...just the entry of the reference

and V2 in my opinion sounds better

since you already have the V2 speaker cables....its better to use V2 interconnects

I actually thought of spending only 15k for the speaker cables.
Now I am spending the price of a Guarneri for both the interconnects and the speaker cables.
I think I just (willingly) got suckered big time.

I also just figured something out. If I am getting those Passlabs monoblocks, this means that I will need 3 sets of interconnects...
1 preamp to 2 poweramps = 2 interconnects. 1 source to 1 preamp = 1 interconnect. Total = 3 interconnects.
26K X 3 = 78K. Sheeeeeetttt.

If I change to those Valhalla power sockets as well, this means that I'll require 4 of those.
Lagi Sheeeeeeetttttttt.

Hushymushy, one thing I meant to ask you...which do you think is better? Pure Class A amps or Class AB? Alvin says that pure class a amps are a wee bit slower than the class ab. Any truth in that?

Thought of getting those Passlabs XS monsters (Pure Class A) but Alvin says to go for Goldmund Telos 350+ instead. Cheaper than the Passlabs XS and programmable too. There is actually a USB connection to a laptop which can adjust the Amplitude, Phase and Delay of the amp.

Heard about your room...my commiserations. Either that or Alvin is suckering you into letting him redo it. My advice is to let it be. ~50k, was it? That amount will transform your equipment.

my only exposure at this price range last time was altec lansing ACS45.1 and 48.1.....and that was 15years ago.
my rm200 to rm300 system was in the early 90s......

i have gone beyond that level of sound system and just never look back at this range....

and since i'm not hunting anything at this range.....i don't do any research on it.

so if you found well regarded stuffs at that price range and something u like hearing....then buy it....

Yes, I agree since I read thin or cheap stand will cause resonance and bad bass sound. However, the main reason I'm interested to get the stand I mentioned is due to limited budget. sad.gif

And ori B&W would cost about RM600 if not mistaken. And that's excluding shipping cost to Miri which is very expensive. Speaker stand at Miri cost about RM700. doh.gif It's hard to get into this hobby with small pocket. sad.gif

Don't worry about getting the stands first. Keep if for an equipment upgrade later. Yes, the stands do make a difference to the sound emanating from the speakers but it is not as if it will sound really horrible without the stands (as compared to having the stands). I have a pair of Sonus Faber Guarneri WITHOUT stands and it doesn't really worry me.

DIY idea: Get a pair of those tall vases. Fill up the hole at the bottom with putty or cement. Move it into position. Fill up the vase with aggregate/sand/etc. Place some kind of rubber pad on top of the vase and then the base plate on top of the rubber pad. Finally place your speakers on the base plate.

Dun know how the acoustics will sound but it is a speaker stand nonetheless.

DIY Option 2: Get a metal cage & a wooden crate big enuf to fit the speakers in. Get 8 adjustable metal cables. Fit one end of the cables to the edge of the wooden crate & the corresponding cable ends to the edges of the metal cage so as to suspend the crate in mid air. Fit the speakers into the crate.

Once again, dun know how it will sound though...
