Ya, thats why need to do our homework before choosing and need rely on sifus like u guys to help us. I even might plan to purposely go KL just to audition hifi shops one day.

So anyone can give comment on my questions?

I'm using M33i now. Good enough. No need to go for M34i or M35i. Some says M33i is better than M34i because the additional driver make the sound more muddy. Try it out yourself.

I listen to music without a subwoofer. I never like a subwoofer to begin with. My suggestion is that you get a floorstander since you do like a heart shaking bass. Have a listen to the Mission range of floorstanders or get a little adventurous and try to find a used TDL RTL2 or TRL3 speakers. Otherwise, try to find any floorstanders with high sensitivity, easy to drive and fun to listen to.

Erm.. I don't quite fancy the Marantz CR401. CD Receiver? Hmm.. Better get a separate amplifier and CD player.
The cables can come in later..
*
Actually, i plan to connect the system to my pc. So im not too keen on CR401 as my pc shall be the source connect to amp. Cables, ya, i wont go for audiophile cables in the beginning first.

Dont know why but i quite fond of having a subwoofer. tongue.gif Floorstanders, i might not have the space for that in my room (study room) where the pc is.

M33i is around RM1200. I saw CMY has a demo unit for that price. M30i is around RM600 but during AV fair can get around RM400.

Well, since you already have your PC as the source, just get a good amp and a pair of loudspeakers. Also, since space is a constrain for you, and assuming that your listening area is quite small (unless your study room is as big as a concert hall ohmy.gif ), I'd suggest that you get a pair bookshelf speakers then. How do usually listen to your music usually? Speakers on the table with listening distance only a few feet away? If that's the case, you might want to get a pair of near field monitors. Good for close up listening. Seriously, a good pair of speakers do not need a subwoofer especially in a smallish room.

Do come to KL and spend at least a few days listening to various setups. The best way is to make an appointment for a demo, bring your favourite CDs, relax, take your time to listen and enjoy!

The rooms are not small, just a bit congested hehehe. My study is 5m x 5m roughly and its not totally square room. I might move them to a larger room next time so i dont want near field speakers hehe. The room corners are occupied by 2 bookshelves, long display cabinet, giant empty safe ;P, PS2 + tv, 4 small cabinet and two 1.5m tables with a pc on each. If i do get floor standers, there will be a lot of rearranging to do....

I am currently using Z5500D and i use them on my table. 1.4m apart. I normally listen to it while on the computer and walking around the room or sitting in the living room just outside the room.

M30i is the cheapest book shelf for Mission. The M33i floor stander is only around RM1200. M31i and M32i should be between this 2 price range. M30i maybe too small for you. You may want to consider bigger book shelf like the M31i or M32i. M30i is ok for surround. As for the general price guide, I had compiled one before. Here :

O thanks, i will read up on that. I just did a measurement of the table and the M33i is only 85cm tall. My table is 74 mm tall. If that is the case this speaker is kinda short isnt it? Is there a way to make them taller a bit?

How are mission speakers sound signature like? And those who normally use their Hifi with their pc, how do you guys position ur speakers?

Most of the hifi speaker is around this height. The height is just nice (ear level) if you sit on a living room couch. In your case, may be bookshelf is a better option. See the review here : http://whathifi.com/Review/Mission-m33i/

How do you position your speakers yftap69? You are using as HT correct? What is the best positioning for a pc desk situation if im using a floorstander to get the soundstaging correct?

As for M31i and M32i, i see that M31i gets more stars in the brochure than M32i.

So if i were to choose say M32i which is RM800 (proly higher in Sarawak), with the balance from the RM3k budget, can you recommend an amp (that can connect to pc) and a woofer to go with it?

I place my M33i slightly toe in. See photo here : http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/439516/+140

Yes, I'm using it as HT. Actually the positioning concept is the same. The tweeter height must be around ear level. So you must fix your siting position first before you place your speaker. For floor stander, it's pretty std height and if you sit on a couch, it will be just nice. For desktop PC can, it will be difficult for floor stander. Bookshelf maybe a better choice. Yes, you are right, M31i get better review than M32i. The difference is on the cabinet volume. Maybe M31i is just nice whereby M32i is too big while m30i is too small. Just my wild guess. But for M33i and M34i, M33i get better review because the additional driver on the M34i cause the sound to be muddy.

Base on your budget, you have around RM2200 for the amp. Not much choice in Malaysia. Only Yamaha is the most value for money as the price is controlled. Other brands are much more expensive here in Malaysia. Eg : Onkyo 606 sells for RM2800 in Malaysia while in Singapore it only cost you RM1700. Your best choice will be Yamaha 663 which is around RM1800. I'm not sure on the connection from the PC. I guess you can either use optical or coaxial. Don't think PC got HDMI connection.

Wow, amps are so expensive. Anything more budget than that? If not, not much $ left for subwoofer lol. How are Marantz amp prices? Im guessing a decent sub, is RM700 upwards yes?

Hoping not to go over RM3k how ever i can push till RM3.5k if necessary in the end.

Ya, i think i will use Optical. I dont know if its just me or what but, when i compare the optical out on my pc and the optical out on my Philips Aurillium, i feel the Aurillium sounds better. smile.gif

You can try here : http://hifi4sale.blogspot.com/

A lot of bargain stuff. Marantz is good for Hifi. If you do not plan to go for the new hi def format like Thru HD or DTS MA, those older amp will suit you well. You can get maybe below RM1k. See here : http://www.hiwaylaser.com/product_listing

For entry level sub like the SW150, it's already around RM1300. Go for used one if you want below RM1k.

Can Marantz PM4001 connect a subwoofer? What sort of amps that can connect woofers? And how do i match the power of the amp to speakers?

*Sorry if my questions is noob cause i am smile.gif

Yes, RX-V663 is an audio video surround receiver and not integrated stereo amplifier.
