I think i might be switching to umobile cause i need to use the internet.

Currently i am on Hotlink youth club which is a dam awesome plan.Once i switch over, there is no turning back to hotlink youth club anymore. So i need to make a good decision.

But i have 2 question:
1)I need to maintain my number with a lowest amount of money spend, when i am in oversea next next year(2013). Currently on Hotlink youth club my number can last till 2014 as long as i reload RM 10 a year. Actually i will be using this umobile for 1 year only. After 1 year i will be studying in oversea. Cause once i leave next year to study oversea.I will only come back once a year. so i need to make my sure my number will not be cancel. Is there any suggestion? I dun mind MNP to any other telco, before leaving.

2)Anyone here buy a prepaid number from official umobile website before? how long is the delivery and activation, did it went through smoothly? The reason i would like to buy a number is to test their connection before i MNP my number to u mobile.

edit: i ask about the max day of validity, but after posting i found out is only 300 days.
*
i bought my UM sim online. took around 3-4 days to arrive because the courier they used was so lousy. but instant activation once you got the sim.

i would suggest you to keep your youth club sim. just buy a new UM sim. i was thinking the same also before switching. but then i wasn't sure if UM can totally replace the sucks service by Hotlink so i decided to purchase a new UM sim. and i'm grateful that i didn't port in my YC sim. nod.gif

they all have sucks system. so better have a back up sim that you think you can rely on. icon_rolleyes.gif

hi guys,

i've just ported over to u mobile from celcom postpaid (MNP) and am having this problem: the One Time Password feature no longer works for online transactions using my VISA card. not sure if it's bcos of my phone (android) or the provider? anyone hv any info on this? sad.gif
*
you need to de-register the number and re-register it back with your visa card provider. this case always happen to users who did port-in.

okay,i will keep my hyc number and order it online to try out first.

by saying sucks system mind elaborate abit? haha hotlink service okay la. SMS 1 sen only so cheap man. But the dam problem is no cheap mobile internet.

any idea how to handle 2 number? and how do like tell a friend. having 2 number confirm confuse a friend alot.

anyway hows the connection overall? i dun really need a super fast speed,as long as it dun keep dc then okay adi. i only use for socializing. (facebook, whatsapp, viber, etc)
okay thanks for the advise.
so u having 2 number? but i dun really like having 2 number, the reason was because it will be hard to give ur friend both number. and they will have to think and try to dial both number before reaching u. Any suggestion how to handle 2 number? and some more need bring 2 phone right?

anyway hows the connection overall? i dun really need a super fast speed,as long as it dun keep dc then okay adi. i only use for socializing. (facebook, whatsapp, viber, etc)

if you want to use one number, use your UM num and keep your YC sim. to put a sim card in you wallet isnt a harm anyway. no need to use both if you dont want to.

2G is okay. more than enough for socializing. except when it comes to loading and uploading high res pictures in instagram, for example. if you have a really good 2G connection, should be no prob.

ya la. they still deduct the credit even though i ady subscribe to data plan. all telcos have this prob. i ady kena with celcom, maxis. the latest one is umobile. doh.gif

Just one question on u-mobile bonus column:

How to i get the Mydeal 8%??? I tried *118# but seem like mydeal is not in there.

http://www.u.com.my/bonus/mydeal

anyone can help to solve this?
*
you have to contact the number provided there i guess. offers at Umobile Bonus apparently will not be available at the phone's interactive menu. you have to check it out either on web, print the receipt or call the number given. like in this case, you have to call.

Any idea why this is happen? I'm planning to ditch maxis because of this.. it seems same thing with umobile too sad.gif
*
if you ask for my assumption, i would say they all want 'free' money from users. why not? no matter which telco i use, still have some problem. the exact problem. i switched from celcom to maxis and latest to umobile because of the same problem. but still..... sigh..

i wonder why cant they fix this in their system. i believe they actually can.

hey, im interested to port my maxis prepaid num to umobile.
but now i would like to us few questions first..

1) i dun quite understand that my LYN forumers are talking like this.

''if umobile dun have 3g connection, then will auto roam to celcom's 3g connection''

what does that mean?

does it mean that if regardless of anywhere I am, i would still get the 3g connection anywhere celcom has 3g?

2) how are the voice call, 3g, and 2g services like compared to maxis? ive been using maxis prepaid since for the past 10 years and so far, its quite good and never had any real problem. My location is Cyberjaya/Subang Jaya. Occasionally 2x in 6months i will go to Terendak, Melaka and Besut, Terengganu.

3)I went to PC fair today and the promoters there been promoting me to take postpaid u28 instead of taking umobile prepaid by dialing *118* and get 500mb data free. Well, i hate commitments/contract issues like overcharging etc.  Here, i want to ask, how is the calls/sms charged if i take the U28?

thank you so much.
*
1. yes you're correct. but that's only for broadband, if i'm not mistaken. not for data/bis plan on phone. this one i'm not sure. need someone else to clarify on this. but as per my experience, there should be a 3g coverage for UM in Ipoh but sadly i can get only one bar. and i can do nothing with it. it didn't automatically switch to 2g neither. most of the time, "no service" appears when i switch 3g option on. that's why i said that statement only applicable to broadband.

2. voice call is normal. nothing much to worry. their 2g is excellent because they ride on celcom network. where got celcom, UM also got. but not 3g. UM has its own 3g network. you need to check their coverage area for Cyberjaya. but for Terendak and Besut, i can guarantee you 500% got only 2g network.

3. for prepaid unlimited data plan, they give you free 100 mins and 30 sms to all telcos. more than that, you need to pay 8 sen/sms and 18sen/min on call. but you can carry your balance to the next month if got balance.

one thing you need to alert is, that free 500mb is only for another two months. they give it because their system went down last two months so they make that up by giving 500mb free for 3 consecutive months.

regarding ur answer in Question 1.

What do you mean if that is only for broadband? So im planning to get the U28 for my android phone. So if there is Umobile3G coverage, ill get 3g. But if there is no 3g coverage, I wont get 2g celcom connection ?
*
what i meant was it might be only for UM broadband. the one that you plug to your pc.

i'm using iphone 3gs. so when i switch on the 3g option, when there's no 3g network, it didnt automatically switch to 2g. i need to first switch the setting off. only then it detects 2g network. if android, i dont know. heheh.

erm guy, i got a new umobile sim card...
after i call 118, it say pls register your sim pack or wait until the registration is complete.
how long it takes for the registration???
*
have you tried to call any other num? coz when i received mine, like that also. but then i called another number and pick up that call to let it activated. then all okay ady.

if you just bought the sim, then you have to wait for another 2-3 working days lor. if ady bought it long time ago, try to contact them back.

I'm thinking of getting a new number just to test out the coverage and speed first before I take the plunge to U mobile. One reason being is that I won't be able to use back my Youth Club plan should I revert back to Maxis  hmm.gif
*
that's the best way. i keep my YC sim and buy a new UM number. i don't know. it's not my primary number i just use for data plan so no problem in getting lost in touch w/ friends, etc.

but it would be much advised that you buy a new sim. you won't know what will happen, aite? cool2.gif

You're using two phones?

I'm looking to change from Maxis since it doesn't offer any good deal for data. U mobile is the cheapest around with their 1GB plan for only RM28/month but I'm a little worried about coverage.

Well If I could maintain 2 phones, including bringing both of them out, I'll choose Digi's 100MB/day for 100 days for only RM100, but the catch is that it's only a data sim card, so you can't make/receive calls or sms. If only my phone has a dual sim card slot, then I'd probably maintain my maxis line and get the Digi lol laugh.gif
*
yeah you should worry about the coverage. like i said before, i'm staying at ipoh where i should get 3g coverage but naahh.. can only get 2g. and lately the network isnt stable. but what to do. UM offers the most affordable data plan so far. so need to tolerate a bit on this drawback. unless the worse comes to worst, i wont mind changing telco again. rolleyes.gif

as far i know it was free sms, and yes it worked for the whole 24 hours

final one is on 10 January
*
They do offer free calls. And yes it is still on.

Btw guys, Umobile has just introduced another mobile internet plan. MB15. 500MB data, comes with RM15/biweek. I wonder if the unlimited plan will still remain with this newly introduced plan.

is it the plan is for mobile internet? unsure.gif

Yeap. It's for mobile internet, though it falls under broadband category at the website.

I think you have to choose the number you want before you activate. Purchase first, then you activate. Because not all 7e outlets will help to activate the number. Some outlets will just sell you the number then activate it yourself.

I just mnp from maxis to umobile yesterday, hopefully it will be ready by next week. But i have 1 question, can i use this plan on my blackberry? I'm thinking not to take blackberry plan but use unlimited plan instead. According to UM sales rep yesterday, i can't surf internet on my blackberry if i take this plan.. is't true?
*
BIS is for BB, data plan is for other smartphones. Data plan doesnt cover BB services. For some of friends' cases, they can browse via BB browser but some cannot. They'll be charged accordingly by pay per use basis. And in most other cases, they cannot do anything w/o being extra charged because data plan isn't built for use in BB.

currently about 1 year through my 24 months plan under digi.. i88 sad.gif

thinking if i should terminate my contract and pay RM400, and port to umobile, cos can save alot sad.gif
*
But you really have to check the coverage at your place first and take into consideration the time taken for you to successfully MNP your number. So that you won't regret paying RM400 to terminate the contract. nod.gif

errr... u didn't tell me how much they pay monthly for maxis/celcom...  tongue.gif
nope... been there last mth... fastest is EDGE...
i support u... i need more people stay away from umobile so the heavy traffice while browsing can be reduced... biggrin.gif
yes... just call MBB hdesk, they'll do it everything 4 u...
No 3G in AS, highest is EDGE... signal calling very good coz roaming under CELCOM maaa...
higher speed can get via higher monthly commitment... that one for sure...
of course...

question : i've been using umobile for the past 4 mths and i've travel around the peninsular area but my phone never show 3G... its only show 3 category only...
G = GPRS
E = EDGE
H = HSPA
umobile doesn't roaming on CELCOM 3G network...?
*
UM doesn't roam on Celcom 3G. That only applicable for broadband not mobile internet. That's what I understand.
