AN ASTOUNDING RM500,000 was raised by the organisers for the inaugural Malaysian Supercar Charity Challenge that will be held from May 20-22.
“We are overwhelmed by the sponsors support for our event.
“Our target was RM250,000 for this year but the money has doubled now. Next week, another sponsor wants to contribute RM150,000 towards this event and the collection will total up to RM650,000.
“We want to make this an annual event and the target for organising this event for the next four years will be RM1mil,’’ said organising committee chairman Roslan Rosdi at the launch at the Super GP Caffee in Subang Jaya onrecently.
The charity event will have five Supercar clubs - Ferrari Owners Club Malaysia, Porsche Club Malaysia, Lamborghini Club Malaysia, Team Aston Martin and Team Maserati - with 100 cars competing for a challenge trophy.
Each car can have a maximum of two people and the event will be flagged off at Space U8 Mall in Shah Alam on May 20. The participants will head on to Malacca and make four pit stops.
The second day will start in Malacca and will see them making four pit stops until they reach Johor Baru. Then, they will head back to Kuala Lumpur on May 22.
On May 22, the supercar drivers will be taking 100 orphans around the Pasir Gudang track to give them a memorable and exciting experience.
The pit stops will be at Port Dickson, Seremban, Pedas, Ayer Keroh, Tangkak, Pagoh, Yong Peng and Pasir Gudang.
Organising committee secretary Dr Rodwin Bahadur said the race requires participants to take part in physical and mental challenges throughout the journey.
“The participants with the best timing will win the challenge trophy. For this year, we are contributing to 10 charity organisations to improve the education and well- being of underprivileged children.
“We have identified orphanages from Negri Sembilan, Malacca and Johor.
“Each charity organisation will received about RM30,000. Next year, we will focus on other issues and contribute the proceeds accordingly.
Among the sponsors are Space U8 Shah Alam, CIMB Preferred, Rebellion Watches, TW Steel Watches, Touch and Go, Mamee, A2A Capital Services, Mouawad, Super GP Caffee, Pulai Springs Resort and Strudels.
Naza Italia, Sime Darby Auto Performance and Lamborghini Malaysia would also provide back up servive for the event.
