Hey... People chose the easy way because dealing with TM is a piece of MESS. They degil enough and won't change the router so easily. And... If not to go the easy way, people are wasting their money paying the monthly bill yet can't enjoy them. In long run, they lose more than going the "hard" way. Get what I mean. My router so far so good... Just random disconnection once in few days...

I investigate the problem deeper and weird phenomenon discovered.

Location of Equipment: Upstairs (Back Room)
Location of Desktop    : Downstairs (living hall)
Distance                  : Estimated only 20 - 25 meters ( about 30 steps)
Computer                  : Macbook

Problem: Wifi Signal Drop Dead .  Sometimes Alive , sometimes dead. now mostly dead.
Date Happen: 1 week ago.
Before that: it was smooth upload and download.

Discovery: Reposition to about 2 meter away from the desktop, The wifi signal comes alive and kicking again.

Report to Unifi: Yes
Date: 19/03/2011

Added on April 19, 2011, 8:58 am

are you saying here is different notebook , different signal and stability?

Hi, I hope we can discuss this issue so we can find proper solutions.

We've identified that the router wifi signal is extremely weak and prone to fluctuations.

Also, a lot of users have been reporting issues with their connections recently, some perhaps due to their "relocation" or servicing or whatever.

However, for me:

1. I am not facing connection initialisation problems - it is able to connect and is usable, at least at some places around the house.

2. I sometimes get periods of (say a few minutes) very good downloads/browsing use, i.e. 200-300 KBps average, going up to a very rare 500+ KBps average sometimes.

3. At the same time, I never fail (during each usage session) to get periods (of a few minutes or longer) of extremely poor speeds... 0 KBps, downloads timing out, and web browsing impossible (cannot even load text or lowyat, it is either extremely slow or at 0 KBps).

So, I understand normal fluctuations (0, 10, 100, 200 KBps, moving about), but it is very prone to dying off, and it does this way to often (every few mins or secs). If I can get high speeds of 200-500 KBps (and even rarely hitting 600-900 KBps) on 2 signal bars (sometimes moves to 3 or 4, but does not seem to matter), why does it keep dying out like this? It makes downloading and web surfing impossible.

Can TM actually do anything about this? If the Router is at fault, how come I can still get (non-constant) speeds of 200-900 KBps?

Also, why is the connection appearing to be better/more stable at a different location on an older laptop, even tho both laptops are equidistant from the router?

Thank you.

Ok i can understand the point that y the decision to install other router as we cannot freeze time for TM technician to provide a solution that is not going anywhere. What you guys can do is use TPlink for standing by or any brand while your complaint is attended to. Do pursue the problem rather than writing it off, if that's the case. It's just a highlighter .

It's not about jealousy of others using a better router or not. After all, we all want the best service and supports right? Isn't that everyone is going for?? Don't get things wrongly as we all have shape the nation Broadband by subscribing Unifi, if everyone thought the best solution is to replace it than in future Unifi will just sign a piece of paper with vendors who cheated them by giving mediocre products.

Something weird happens again today. First, Unifi called me saying that they will tweak or check their network after i told the lady of the wifi fluctuation. After the call, this evening till now , the internet is smooth again. I don't think it's the ROUTER problem now. First i thought it's the router that is giving on/0ff and on/off problem.

If the router is at fault. Than by now i should be having loss signal by now . Same time at this hour. I assume it's the Unifi network site.

I see, that is indeed good news, that fluctuations stopped after they "tweaked" for you. How can I contact them, do you have a direct number for the people I shoud talk to you can share?

I don't know for sure what the problem is, or even if it is similar to yours, and from experience even the TM people might not be able to tell. I had Streamyx for 3+ years, it DCed more times than I care to remember, and was unstable like hell.

I also felt it was weird, since the fluctuations are extreme (0, <10, 200, 300, 500+) but I still need to test the same laptop from the less affected location.

Thank you.

We have already given you some steps to try (use ethernet to test) but you seem to be insistent in your assumption that it's not a wifi or router issue you are facing?

Wireless connections fluctuates a lot and is prone to interference. The age of your laptop is not a good indicator of whether it should have better wifi performance or not.

i wonder y some of you chose the easy way by buying TP link router so soon?  i mean you people sign a contract for such product and knowing that monthly payment is withdrawn each month to pay the bill, y the rush to get tplink modem ? i mean , try living without internet for a while , if people from fukushima can live without infra , y cant we wait for tm support to force its suppliers dlink to give latest model? im pretty sure tmnet and dlink had signed a contract as well , rigth?

This is simply a pragmatic move. E.g. most Streamyx packages provide free modem but there is no shortage of market demand for ADSL modems with better features and performance.

absolute agree with it as our router for streamyx was drastically improved from the old Riger router. Knowingly that bad router could cause problem and increase productivity in Customer Support and chart income increase from Hotline calls only reverse the confident level. This is way backward. They should have learn from past mistake rather than profiteering from us. Hotline should be given as Free or use Email Ticketing to diagnose like other foreign companies are doing or even local firms already did it.

No point, their direct line seems to be one way. Up to now , this time , fluctuation had stopped. So it's not the router fault. That's the reason y i ask some of you to find out the problem thoroughly and not jump to conclusion to buy any router yet. So far, i don't have any information or tech input on this yet. We do see occasionally people post their dsltest , some good , some bad. There are many things we should be narrowing down . I doubt the distance from workstation and router is the issue here as this modem claims to cover the whole house by looking in the Modem Packaging and Specification.

Hi all,

My Unifi 20Mbps is coming next week and would like to clarify and hope you can help.

1. Till date, is there any cap on the download limit as stated in the website?

2. I came across the forum mentioned about the Mikrotik to replace the DIR615. May I know why need to replace? and what is the difference between RB250 and RB750?

3. Does the BolehVPN support the download up to 20Mbps?

4. Is there anything to take note during the installation?

Thanks

Fully agree with you and cannavaro.

Moreover this is a personal decision of less than RM100.00 and not like "Fukushima's" multi-billion questions. It just like we have Bus/LRT services in Malaysia but why so many still have cars? rclxub.gif BTW, not that we have not dealt with TM and wonder how long it would take to get them to change. Eventhough finally one morning when they wake up and change the router, will TM replace all existing routers?
