Seantang maybe Digi is reinvesting their profits for growth in stock prices, while Maxis is maintaining a stable stock price with high dividend payouts? Just my 2 sen.

Anybody going for Clubsnap outing this weekend? =D

For those who wanna change SGD to RM. I just changed in JB, the rate is $1 = RM2.407. slightly lower than wawasan in Mid Valley but i think its better than those in SG
*
Surprising, as I always find the money changer at Kranji to offer rates that are much better than the ones in JB. Even the money changer at Jurong Point give much better rates. Which JB changer do you go to?

Stanchart has a lot of cardmember benefits? I was thinking of getting Citibank the other day. Seem to have a lot more of these visa promotions.

Keep at it....don't give up.

2 years ago I took about 2 months to get a job....this time it took me like 2 weeks to find a job....so the magic word is Next...

Singapore is not a place to start fresh...everyone coming in here is experienced.

Then again, I might be wrong, but that is what I have seen.

加油!

Added on April 16, 2011, 7:19 pmOn another note, does anyone get books from the Sg library?

Wow...tq guys for all da useful info!
I din knw transport can be dat cheap? unsure.gif  hmm.gif
Wat abt food? Did u cook sumtimes?
*
For me, usually about $7 a day for food, plus I do some shopping for milo, biscuits, bread etc biweekly about $10, for breakfast/nom-ming. Transportation is free company bus, maybe 1 month spend $20 to reload the MRT card (I dun travel out much). Anyway if you take BUS+MRT also highly unlikely to rack up more than $3 a day. However I spend about $150 on flights a month to go back to KK.

And some weekends, go to Brewerkz for a pint for just $12. Sit down and chitchat with friends at Clarke Quay while taking photos. The rest of the money put into investment =). Some of my friends in Malaysia working for few years still have yet to save enough to invest. That's the greatest problem working there I believe, because the earlier you save and start making your money work for you, the better.

try find a room tat is near to the mrt station instead of taking a bus + mrt which would cost alot. For cooking wise, i can save some but not much
*
Room near MRT is very important...10 mins walk is quite OK. Busses are horrible because they can be very slow sometimes, especially if you stay in the suburbs. Around Lakeside you can get a decent single room for $450 including PUB.

QUOTE(Semper Fi @ Apr 17 2011, 12:26 PM)
Hi Both,

Wat i meant cookin here is, light cookin, as in makin sandwiches? Plain porridge? Fried Noodles n etc.Not those 3 or 4 courses meal type.
*
Most owners won't object to you boiling water to make noodles or porridge. If it involves frying or anything to do with oil, more difficult as it can be very oily (I have met many owners that are very particular about cleanliness zzz). But to be honest, eat a 2 veg 1 meat meal is only $3 here, that's quite healthy than anything you can do at home for a similar budget for 1 person. Singapore is not Australia or the UK, where eating out can easily cost a small fortune.

QUOTE(alaskanbunny @ Apr 17 2011, 12:33 PM)
for me food i spend on is only for lunch... around $4-5/day.. transportation to office $2 back $2 with mrt n bus... for dinner i punish my company for making me work OT, $15 for meal if not OT i skip dinner, $12 for cab back ^^  then leave at 9...

for weekends... usually transportation around $5-$12, food $20... unless got special damage due to special outing with cousin brows.gif... around $250..zzz, waste of $$$$

shopping not much...
*
Wah what kind of weekend is that? Open bottle type? =). Anyone interested to have a TCSS session at Brewerkz? The atmosphere there damn nice.

Most companies will give an annual increment to people who are just average.

And ultimately, it depends on YOU. If you feel you deserve a higher salary but your company won't give it to you, then change company.

Milo gives you ulcer and diabetes? Anyway what sort of supplements do you recommend?

Hopefully my case is same as yours! icon_idea.gif
Yup, definitely will call them back until they clearly mentioned if I were unsuccessful. Hoping for the best to join you guys soon!  icon_rolleyes.gif

Just give a call to the person who attended your case. It may be something as simple as the person being overseas unable to progress. It took me about 2 months also, from interview to obtaining my EP.

QUOTE(crapp0 @ Apr 28 2011, 11:03 AM)
I havent even attended the course, just made some enquiries at the UK embassy on the Nebosh certification since i am interested in the diploma for occupational health and safety.

Nah, just enquiring for a fren who is into ice climbing since he needs a replacement for his ice axe and anchors and carabiners. I have attended a short course on irata level 1 rope access training course but i didnt take the test. But i do love the equipment which they use, especially petzl stuff which i noticed is what most of not all irata guys swear by.

Just enquired on their headlamp which i am interested in, it cost a bomb at 120SGD for the mid range head lamp.
*
It looks like a good course to take. I'm interested to take up some short courses / diplomas to widen my skillset. Can you share on other similar courses (1 year or less) as well?

QUOTE(venicelim @ Apr 30 2011, 08:07 PM)
ok. tkz. but my uni cant issue letter of completion for me.
bcz i havent graduate yet.
I will be doing my internship attachment in Singapore. Internship is the last requirement of my Degree.
After the 4 months internship, I will be continue to work as permanent staff in that company.
Now the company doesnt know what VISA to apply for me.
Should they apply the Training Employment Pass or Employment Pass.

Anyone got experience in this?
Really need advuce on this. Cz the company said they have no experience on this. icon_question.gif
*
Just apply for a Training Employment Pass, I was in the same situation as you and that's what my company applied for me.

hi, tkz for the advice.
But then how long is the validity of training employment pass?
Then after the internship 4 months, the company should help me to apply for employment pass right?

btw, u mentioned u wait for 2 months from interview to obtaining your EP. Then during the 2 months, do u just wait in malaysia or do u start working ard?
*
The pass is valid for 6 months. If they are interested to hire you after that, they will apply the appropriate working pass for you after you get your graduation certificate.

While waiting I spent my time growing mold in kota kemuning. Up to you how to spend free time.

Anybody can give advice on upgrade of the internet package?

My fren wants to upgrade this his current internet plan, he's currently on starhub and is planning to upgrade to a higher speed but he is unsure whether to go continue with starhub or try M1 since he's currently on cable and he wont go for the fiber since he has to bear the cost of the installation of the fiber optic service as well as being locked into a 2 year contract in that flat, unlike the cable whereby he can just move his account to a new location, the fiber option wont.
*
What about ADSL? What are the normal rates for phone lines in Sg and can it be moved?

My offer, also big MNC, gave me offer first and then they helping me apply EP (via some external vendor). However the offer letter states that the offer is contingent upon me getting an EP. So ... no difference?
*
Its an escape clause for the company. If you don't get the EP, they are then not legally obligated to hire you. Otherwise its grey and you could sue them.

Let's decide on the transportation when we get closer to the date. Who knows last minute might have changes.

From my experience it's quite pleasant to take CW3 from Jurong East to the JB stop...near gelang patah Jusco/Tesco there (can't recall the name right now) on a Sat morning. We can meet up there then move out. This assuming we are meeting at gelang patah that area.

As for activities, anybody know what's there to do in JB? Lol. If Melaka I can advise la...spent 4 years there haha.

my suggestion is like this.

morning after we left SG (around 9-10am?)

we go eat dimsum? any muslim following?

after breakfast, there are a few things that we can do:

1: we go Jusco shopping and go for a movie??
2: we go Desaru waterfall?
3: we go desaru fruit farm eat fruits?
4: we go sing k lunch? (not recommended coz we got a big group, no chance to sing)

then we go dinner eat seafood. after dinner can decide whether want continue or not.

if u all got other ideas, please post it here. we can change plan dun wan eat dimsum or seafood 1. afternoon also if u all got other ideas, please share it here as well.

i heard those shipyard only offer high salary with up to 10 month bonus annually. Other jobs, erm........ 5 yrs experience around 3.5k sgd for a engineer is common. If u have bus driving license, u can earn more than everyone initially.  rclxms.gif  rclxms.gif
*
Monthly salary is soso, but bonus is high. However bonus is subject to quite a few terms and conditions. And so far no 10 months yet...but its close. Maybe next year.

QUOTE(wseng @ May 28 2011, 06:54 AM)
Bus driving license ?

I don't think shipyard's salary is high ... maybe in range of 2.5k to 3.5k.. but they might get additional pay due to OT. Of course high bonuses.
*
That's the rate, depending on your results, graduating uni and whether you are Singaporean Male or not. OT is a fixed $ rate which is much lower than your normal hourly rates, but at least you are not working for free, and OT is pretty high, but I guess not as high as those audit freshgrads. I hear those are really killer.

I see what you mean. It's RM412.95 from Jan 14 onwards. Over RM600 including taxes and fees.

Anyway, it's well know that SIN-IPH is Firefly's cash cow route, subsidising high competition routes like SIN-KUL or low passenger load ones like those going to east coast or east Malaysia.
*
Every single time I sat on a SIN-KK flight it has always been full house. Then again I guess as a working adult, I fly back during peak hours.

I don't think so TEP >2500. That's EP already. I was on TEP with $600 monthly salary. So you are good.
