QUOTE(TheMakers @ Apr 18 2011, 11:06 AM) Guys, during interview in Singapore company, they will definitely ask me one question which I always unable to answer it properly... "Why Singapore?". This is something that I'm unable to answer it nicely. Anyone got any good answer for this? I dont know the general template. But be sure to include the conversion rate - money. Hi stanley, I'm currently looking for IT job based in Singapore, wondering whether you can pm me for more information regarding this job? thanks. All other things regarding the cons of your country of birth, be sure to keep it to yourself, as the problem is entirely yours. |

Greed breeds anxiety. You can only have a work pass that is tied to one employer. Make sure you play your card right and mom doesn't see you as an opportunist.

Some comments on the report. The transparency on what is in the basket to derive the index is of paramount importance. Generally any index that weighs on housing and transport and gealthcare would put Sg at an unfavorable rank. No index is perfect and so is the one put up by ubs. And you will be surprise how "contaminated" the data to derive the index might be when it flows through the info pipeline.

I think you are referring to cooling day. Purpose is forthe voters to have a clear state of mind before voting. Political pRities should be in a dormant state for one day. Thus, it think it is still a normal working day.

QUOTE(feifei777 @ Apr 26 2011, 10:05 PM) Market consensus is precisely 4.5 months. Mom Drills deeper into days and some insiders info is saying hours. If you worked long enough, you would realize 95% of the foreigners who changed jobs resigned precisely 4.5 months, 13 days and 3.5 hours. No more no less. Unpublished success rate is at 99%, with the residual 1% got the info from some anonymous forum. This post has been edited by keelim: Apr 26 2011, 11:02 PM |

I am not sure if that is a form of mockery or if seantang is riding on the same cynical wave.
To draw boundaries of the blue skies and black swans with regards to resignation, this is beyond me. |

Did anyone attend the rallies particularly the opposition? Looks like it's gonna be a hge swing in votes this time around. Oppositions are harping on housing and foreigner issues. Judging from the presence if the crowd it looks like a landslide results favoring the opposition.

QUOTE(seantang @ May 2 2011, 02:20 PM) I think that Singaporeans are enjoying the novelty of it all ie. getting to vote, for instance (I have 40 year old colleagues who are first time voters), the fact that the opposition is much more structured and viable this time around, and the media is giving them significant airplay. A lot of the crowd at opposition rallies are not supporters per se, but there to hear what the opposition have to say. They've never had a chance to do so in the past. A lot of my colleagues are treating the opposition rallies like concerts for the family, and many of them are heading to other constituencies to hear the "star" speakers, like Low Thia Kang, Slyvia Lim and Nicole Seah. So the attendance might not translate into votes. I have recently unwind a significant proportion of my equity holdings due to general election (before knowing Osama was killed - this is a material info to the market surprisingly). This echo mm lee advised not to Rock the foundation that sg was built on. If there is significant political swing I do see an opportunity in the local market. Governement linked comp will be affected.Attendees of PAP rallies however, are all supporters... card carrying white shirts and pants. That attributes to the lower numbers. Added on May 2, 2011, 3:26 pmTherefore I am extremely interested with sg election 2011 despite being an outsider. This post has been edited by keelim: May 2 2011, 08:41 PM |

Pls la intern in Microsoft above 2k. Wah Lau eh. Nei Yao mou chui Sui oh.
I don't know how the company is keeping itself as a going concern with an allowance of 2k. It must be good to even work in a clerical position. For your info, the greatest pay for interni have encountered was only 1.5k with housing allowance. Added on May 6, 2011, 7:52 pmShe was also an undergrad from a us top school who failed to secure an internship in the us office. That was also a change of strategy from the us office to tap us grad Asian to focus on china/Asia ex Jp market. And this happened post lehman Added on May 6, 2011, 7:58 pmAnd above anything else, interns are not ethically bounded in dis losing their allowances. This is backlash. Overall votes dropped to 60% for PAP. If my memory didn't fail me it was 65/66% in 2006 and 75% in 2001. This concludes that sentiment has not been very friendly to PAP despite a smaller quantum swing. The ruling party might have lost Aljunied GRC, but managed to wrestle in potong pasir at razor thin margin.
I think Added on May 8, 2011, 12:00 pmThe voices of opposition have been heard. And Sg can expect a moderate growth in the future. From an outsider perspective, I think job seekers (foreigners) especially fresh grad will have a tough time with govt. This post has been edited by keelim: May 8 2011, 12:00 PM |

QUOTE(TheMakers @ May 16 2011, 11:09 AM) Yeah, I'm free to leave if I decide to throw the towel. It does really provide me with good opportunities. I can still look for better offers while working, one thing i just feel unease, the attitude they treat me, is something like I have never experienced in my whole life. Somemore it is situated in Singapore. I thought for Singapore interview should be tough. Instead I got the job easily. Don't you think thats abit weird? I have been to so many interview in Singapore company, they never treat me as they want to hire me. But this one. yes they seems like their face appeared "You're hired" before i went for interview. Maybe if you could provide the salary range offered and the nature of the company (SME, MNC) to give us more insights. We may deliberate further thereafter. |

QUOTE(RedBishop @ May 27 2011, 12:56 PM) try look for 1000 employees from Malaysia and see what they'd tell you if you ask them this With regards to discrimination, I am thankful I had received a thorough classroom and practical experience while working in Msia. Little that I know it would shape me to be more competitive not just in career but in life. How's life in Singapoor, any discrimination? Shame on you folk, lies and tales? that's the fact that you have to accept, don't blind yourself with seng dollar got me? Racial discrimination may be inevitable given how human nature reacts towards survivability/sharing/comfort. But, Institutionalized racism has lost traction based on the social contract it was agreed on. The first generation may buy it, the second generation may tolerate it, but the third generation is disgusted. The yardstick of measurement is not only the Sing dollar, but of myriad reasons. Endless comparisons and debate, but a conclusive answer. In a capitalist world, money feeds a growling stomach. This post has been edited by keelim: May 27 2011, 02:16 PM |
