Yes.
You have to do it using SingPass or inform your employer to update for you, MOM won't do it for you (at least that was the case for my wife earlier this year)
Oh ya, do note if you are doing it yourself...their website is "open" during office hours too.

anyone can shed some light on the explosion at shipyard in benoi road today? heard it's a pretty big blast and the shock wave travel quite far, even to the extend of shattering some glasses at building far away.

You should have the IPA which is the In principle approval letter which is normally send to you before you start working in Singapore. Once you start working, you will then need to inform your HR so that an appointment can be arranged for you to go to MOM ( or specifically work permit office ) to submit the IPA, and other required documents to process the EP card. You then return to the same office in a few days time to collect the EP card. Remember to keep your emigresen pass if you are foreigner and pass it to your HR. I just passed by the area at around 3pm. One of the open air workshop at that yard was totally collapsed.

Looks like only a big explosion will warrant something news worthy. Just last week there were 2 deaths in keppel shipyard within one week but no news was reported about it. You can only sweep the dirt in your own carpet so to speak, a large explosion is harder to hide.

You need to fill up the Request Form for Amendment of Personal Particulars then you can submit online. Employment portion need to be complete by your HR.

If I am staying in JB, then I can put my address in JB as I commute to work daily?

L7, u use 2nd link rite? izzit really jam in 2nd link today? i reach causeway at 8:05am. the jam is until the middle of the Malaysian side bridge. i reach office at 930am. the Jam on the kastam is horrible. they say the ICA system down.

Today jam at Causeway really horrible.. i check out from MY custom 7.30am.Arrive SG Kastam about 9AM..

Join the big group walk from the middle of the bridge all the way to SG Kastam..

Saw a lot of motorbike keep horn and some of them make U-Turn back to MY ..

Nope, I used Woodlands. The jam is MEGA! I was in Malaysia Checkpoint at 7:40 and I reached the ICA checkpoint at 9:00. Somehow funny thing was that nearing to ICA, it was all clear.. I was cursing the lorries that I thought was blocking the way! Reached office at 9:30am too.

u stay in JB also? which part of JB? u commute daily by bus??

need to long meh?? u take bus izzit? I take bike, i reach the Jam area at 8:05am like that. i finish crossing the check points at 9am. it is not the lorries that is blocking la. around 8:30am that time, u can see the whole causeway is fill with motorcycles only as those buses and cars have cleared.

Somehow out of a sudden, there seems to be a lot more lorries than usual. Maybe it's the lorries system that broke down?

nola, i go in daily by bike using causeway. i tried 2nd link once. those bikers in 2nd link are like barbarians. no space already still want to squeeze. in the causeway, they are more polite and will at least leave some empty space to put our legs. we will also line up without cutting queue in the causeway. at 2nd link, its a total mess if u are taking bike.

Which part of JB are you staying in currently? I have a friend also thought of migrating to JB. Other than Larkin area, I do not really know which area to recommend to him.

You should change from "smart" to "modern day salvery". But i doubt singaporean employers will change their stance of this, its easy for them to exploit foreign workers for cheap labour since it would mean they would have to face a cut into their revenue which is unacceptable as is kaisu tradition.

I also found out that you can bribe your way during a commercial vehicle inspection for around 100 dollars. I know a sub-con whose vehicle i had the "pleasure" to ride in and they guy told me that the engines busted, the steering is whacked and the radiator needs topping up every few days and he told me that his company made a "special" request to their mechanic to help them pass through the annual vehicle inspection. He even saw the vehicle report which initially stated that the vehicle inpection failed, after his boss called his mechanic to sort it out, the vehicle passed so in that one day, that vehicle could have failed and then passed the inspection.

Your friend is a Chinese? if the answer is yes, then u can recommend him Taman Johor Jaya, Mount Austin, Ehsan Jaya, Desa Jaya area. I currently staying in Ehsan Jaya. although that place is a bit further from town. but the biggest shopping center in JB is there (Tebrau City Jusco). that place also surrounded with a lot of chinese hawker, and also hypermarket, u name it, u get it (Tesco, Giant, Jusco, Carefour, The Store, Econsave, Tesco extra). from my place to the kastam is around 16KM. so prepare to travel around 20-30 mins to the kastam. the good thing is, u will travel pass Taman Pelangi in the morning, there is a row of stalls in the morning that sells breakfast before you go to the immigration building. Also staying in that area is better than staying near town (Taman Pelangi, Taman Sentosa area). for example, 1 plate of char koay teow is RM5 in Taman Sentosa, Johor jaya u still can get around RM4. same goes for economic rice. If ur friend is a Malay, then go for Larkin. that is a Malay populated area. hardly find any chinese stalls there.

Yup, Stay at Taman Pelangi.. behind Plaza Pelangi.

I park my car at the Jalan Jim Quee (forget the actual Jalan name, there a lot of people park their car)

And work at bugis area..so CW2 my choice...
