300 for transport is overkilled. I could have taken cab to work everyday with that.

Bus/MRT in singapore is cheap yet efficient. I'd say 100 bucks is enough unless you're staying at Changi and work at Tuas.

For me, usually about $7 a day for food, plus I do some shopping for milo, biscuits, bread etc biweekly about $10, for breakfast/nom-ming. Transportation is free company bus, maybe 1 month spend $20 to reload the MRT card (I dun travel out much). Anyway if you take BUS+MRT also highly unlikely to rack up more than $3 a day. However I spend about $150 on flights a month to go back to KK.

And some weekends, go to Brewerkz for a pint for just $12. Sit down and chitchat with friends at Clarke Quay while taking photos. The rest of the money put into investment =). Some of my friends in Malaysia working for few years still have yet to save enough to invest. That's the greatest problem working there I believe, because the earlier you save and start making your money work for you, the better.

I thought it doesn't save much if we cook for only 1 person?

Room near MRT is very important...10 mins walk is quite OK. Busses are horrible because they can be very slow sometimes, especially if you stay in the suburbs. Around Lakeside you can get a decent single room for $450 including PUB.

Most owners won't object to you boiling water to make noodles or porridge. If it involves frying or anything to do with oil, more difficult as it can be very oily (I have met many owners that are very particular about cleanliness zzz). But to be honest, eat a 2 veg 1 meat meal is only $3 here, that's quite healthy than anything you can do at home for a similar budget for 1 person. Singapore is not Australia or the UK, where eating out can easily cost a small fortune.

I normally hang out at Harry's bar. They have a lot of branches, and there is 1 in Clarke Quay and 1 in Boat Quay.

Take it from someone who's been living outside since SPM. Don.t be stingy on food. Allocate $20 a day for meals. That's only $600 per month. If you spend it all, good.. If you don't great. But don't limit yourself to such a low budget like $3 per meal unless it company subsidised meals or worse still, reduce food budget to pay for booze, fags or girls. That's the stupidest thing you can do.

Don't be afraid tp use a bit more of your salary on good, nutricious food. Your salary will ALWAYS increase and the % you spend on food will fall. But if you screw up your health... get an ulcer or some sort of nutritional deficiency, it will haunt you for life. Especially so at this stage when you're coming into the working world and at the same time moving to another country away from everything that's familiar. Your body is under a lot of stress.

And if you believe in nutritional supplements, spend a dollar a day to get a bottle of Pharmaton capsules or something similar. There are a lot of required nutrients that a constant diet of economy rice cannot provide.

Most companies will give an annual increment to people who are just average.

And ultimately, it depends on YOU. If you feel you deserve a higher salary but your company won't give it to you, then change company.
