You can't replace a Ryan Giggs with a Gabriel Obertan for when the guy eventually retires. You can however replace him with a Gareth Bale. The fact that he's Welsh as well is icing

Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has revealed Inter were interested in signing him during the past summer.

The Frenchman says it was the English club who refused the transfer to occur.

"I signed a four-year contract with the club, and whoever wants to sign me has to go to [Sir Alex] Ferguson's office and deal with him directly," the 29-year-old said to Sky after the side's 3-1 aggregate win over Chelsea.

"Inter was very interested in me a year ago, as well as Real Madrid. With Inter, there was serious contacts, but United did not want to sell me."

Evra also believes if the Nerazzurri can score two early goals in their Champions League encounter against Schalke, they have a chance of progressing to the semi-finals of the competition.

"Inter have nothing to lose, as one can never say never in football," he added. "If they can score two quick goals, Schalke could be scared.

Giggs proved his worth to United and showed that his age was not slowing him down by creating all three goals in the Champions League ties against the Blues.

He told The Sun: "I wasn't aware of this latest one. It will soon be forgotten.

"I am just pleased to be involved in performances like this one.

"The quarter-finals of the Champions League — you want to play in these games. And when you finish, these are the games that you are going to miss."

The veteran also admitted he enjoys the final part of the season as it is the most testing with important matches coming every week.

Giggs revealed that he and the United squad are eagerly anticipating their clash with bitter rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final and is hopeful of victory.

He added: "It is what you want at this stage of the season — big game after big game.

"You don't get many bigger than the semi-finals of the FA Cup at Wembley against City.

"We will be up for that and we can't wait."

But after the victory, Balotelli went over to celebrate in front of United's fans. And The Mirror reports that this irked the likes of Rio Ferdinand and other players, who did not appear to take kindly to the Italian's behaviour.

Ferdinand later commented on Twitter: "If u score a goal+give a bit to opposing fans I kind of accept that but at the final whistle go to your own fans+enjoy it not opposing fans."

City will meet either Bolton Wanderers or Stoke City, who meet on Sunday afternoon, in the final of the domestic cup competition.
