QUOTE(gerrardling @ Mar 7 2011, 01:28 PM)
if i get it, can i cancel it within 6 months for scb credit card ?
Yes. You can.

QUOTE(xjeez @ Mar 7 2011, 02:53 PM)
There was this once that an agent offered me AmBank, SCB and then HLB consecutively biggrin.gif
Happened to my mom too. The agent was promoting Public Bank, Alliance Bank and Hong Leong Bank to her doh.gif

QUOTE(chemistry @ Mar 7 2011, 03:00 PM)
You should tell them, the hottest cards now are Maybankard Dua and OCBC Titanium. SCB Business Plat can be considered as well.
AmBank & HLB are just losers.
You are so right laugh.gif

QUOTE(Gen-X @ Mar 7 2011, 03:03 PM)
Well, I click on the Apply Now and by the time I reached the 3rd page I cannot proceed further as it is mandatory I fill in my employer name and address doh.gif   sweat.gif  yawn.gif Must go get a position somewhere so can get this part filled up, hahahaha
I am unemployed too and i always give them my dad's company address and telephone number. But then, the banks never called my dad's office. Not even OCBC who rejected my application.

QUOTE(Gen-X @ Mar 7 2011, 03:12 PM)
Yah lah, the world is cruel to the unemployed  tongue.gif Too bad this is not Australia else I got some government subsidy, haha And how to apply 6 cards when 1 also cannot complete the application. Wait, you just gave me an idea, maybe I should state source of income as Standard Chartered Bank, hahaha
Add USA and Canada to the list too. Back in the 70s, my dad told me those who are jobless got US$500/month from the US government thumbup.gif

QUOTE(DM3 @ Mar 7 2011, 03:15 PM)
for the SCB plat business card, not necessary mus own biz or need current company for approval to add the  co. name on the card?
No. It is at your own discretion.

QUOTE(winner @ Mar 7 2011, 03:34 PM)
As for me, I definitely use Maybankard 2 Amex for business trips as all my expenses are fully reimbursed by my company. In the meantime, I get 5% cash back (even though it is only RM50 per month) plus 5x TPs, compared to the conventional 1x to 3x points from other cards (excluding SCB VI which gives 5x choice points for overseas transactions).
It'd be great if someone can use his/her Maybankard 2 AMEX and Standard Chartered Priority Banking VISA Infinite on the same day in the same foreign currency so we can compare the exchange rate smile.gif How about you, Winner ? Still got your SCB PB VISA Infinite ?

QUOTE(winner @ Mar 7 2011, 04:02 PM)
Talking about CIMB/DA VI, I am given to understand that CIMB is rebranding its VI, as we can see a series of newspaper advertisements on the newly-designed CIMB VI. Furthermore, I was informed that CIMB VI cardholders are also given 2x complimentary access to Plaza Premium Lounge at KLIA, LCCT and Changi Airport. It is indeed a good move as before this it did not make sense to own CIMB VI compared to CIMB VS.
They have to do a whole lot better than that. Hopefully more banks can come up with more 5% cash back credit card biggrin.gif I don't mind if it comes with a cap like the existing ones (Maybankard 2 AMEX & OCBC Titanium). After all, unlimited 5% rebate sounds extremely realistic to me. Besides, the potential cash back i can get from those cards offering 5% cash back can easily cover the much-loathed GST.

QUOTE(hye @ Mar 7 2011, 04:16 PM)
Just to add ... MBB WMC also gives 5x for overseas transactions.
Best of both worlds .... 5x points multiplier + super forex rates!
The annual fee is scary though sweat.gif

Anyone trying BT with MBB , a word of advice, always submit the form early as they are slow in processing.
I did. And yeah, they are slow indeed.

QUOTE(DM3 @ Mar 8 2011, 09:59 AM)
actually currency exchange rates charged by banks varies alot? how to determine which bank gives better rates as the currency rates varies by the moment it gone through the transaction?
We compare it ourselves by posting our transactions made in foreign currency here and so far we notice that Maybank VISA/MasterCard give the most favorable exchange rate.

Just wanna reconfirm that you are saying that we get another 5% off rate quoted for hotel rooms using pay pal? I know Miles mentioned before he used his HSBC and got 10% off for hotel in NY, USA.
It's 7% for HSBC Premier MasterCard actually if you book through Agoda and 6% for Platinum card whilst all other HSBC credit cards will get only 5% off. Bear in mind that you must go to the Agoda landing page via HSBC Home & Away page in order to get the discount. The discount will automatically appear in the checkout page after you have entered your HSBC credit card numbers.

Well ... it took me slightly longer than a month to finally get my MBB2 cards myself. At least I got the newer card design and they expedited the card embossing process.
Newer card design ? Do you mean your MBB2 AMEX has the word Platinum printed on it ?

QUOTE(timetravelller @ Mar 8 2011, 03:15 PM)
in this case if i cancel the visa gold, the treat point inside also gone? possible transfer it to atm/debit card? coz my atm card also can collect treat point.
Yes. You can but make sure you do a follow-up.

Im currently holding HSBC Visa Classic CC (my 1st CC which I've only use up to 1 year). HSBC just called me up offering me HSBC Master Gold MC, free annual fee for 1st year and free GST for 1st year, points can be transferred, shall I convert to HSBC Master CC?
I believe they are actually offering you a second card ... If you one day decide you do not one of the cards already, you'll have to cancel it yourself.

any of u knw bout the ING public bank?
is it worth it to get the 2% rebates and can the current insurance plan just transfer to the CC?
Did you buy your ING Insurance through Public Bank ? If not then you are not entitled for the 2% rebate as the Public Bank/ING MasterCard only gives 2% rebate for ING Insurance distributed through Public bank.

Anyway, INGIAFAM-EON BANK Credit Card is the one that you should look for if you want to get a 2% off your premium paid to ING.

Yeah. The initial batch got the same magnetic strip design too. Very unique indeed.

Never use Paypal before. Is this safe to link AMEX cc to Paypal ? What i afraid, is the fraud transcation in future as we need to fill up CVC/ security code in paypal account .
Paypal is very reliable. I've been using it since i was in Form 5.

QUOTE(romariotan82 @ Mar 8 2011, 05:42 PM)
Let say, we already to link AMEX CC to paypal, can we use to pay Maxis Bill on weekend ? Do we entitle to 5 % + 5 TP ?any additional charge?
I am so lost here. What does Paypal have anything to do with Maxis ? Anyway, if you pay your Maxis bill on the weekend with your MBB2 AMEX, then yeah, you'll get 5% cash back + 5TP.

It does have the AMEX hologram but the magnetic stripe is the usual black one whilst the Maybankard 2 AMEX Platinum magnetic stripe is silver in color.

like zenquix mentioned, you want save money upfront or wait until you redeem voucher and gain a more? I will go with my MBB Plat and get lower conversion rate upfront.
Even though my MBB2 VISA is giving me only 1TP for overseas transactions, i still want a lower conversion rate upfront,

QUOTE(Gen-X @ Mar 9 2011, 05:20 PM)
Yeap, I agree with you on UOB Debit Card for withdrawal of cash. When I used it in 2009 in US, the exchange rate was the same as the one quoted in the internet but there is a RM12 admin fee which works out to be 1.2% for every RM1000K withdrawal. Withdraw RM500 and the rate becomes 2.4%.

click below link to see my table prepared in 2009 for various transactions with various credit cards vs UOB Debit card where the conversion was 1:1. UOB Debit card rate the best without considering the RM12 fee. To note that Alliance rate no longer competitive as of date.
One probabaly should use the Standard Chartered Priority Banking VISA debit card to withdraw cash overseas as Standard Chartered doesn't charge any fees when you withdraw cash from any non-Standard Chartered ATM (assume you do have a Standard Chartered Priority Banking VISA debit card). Not so sure if the exchange rate is good though.

QUOTE(aeiou228 @ Mar 9 2011, 05:52 PM)
Lesson learned:

1) Don't use fax submission. Because the processing people can't see the IC and CC clearly and documents went missing.
2) Scanned and email is the fastest and most effective.  But I always have reservation and uncomfortable of leaving a copy of my IC image file stored in a public server.   sweat.gif
I applied mine using fax as well and a guy called me about an hour later, telling me my IC and credit card is very blur and requested me to email to him instead. I emailed the IC and credit card to his personal Maybank email address and did not face any problem biggrin.gif

QUOTE(cannavaro @ Mar 9 2011, 07:20 PM)
When you apply for a cc just by using another cc as reference, what can the bank check, besides your payment record? I mean can they see a detailed breakdown of your purchases, how much you paid and such?
They can see your credit limit for the card you submitted to them as well as its total outstanding, payment pattern etc.

QUOTE(cannavaro @ Mar 9 2011, 07:20 PM)
And from that one card you use as reference, can the bank use it to find out what other cards you have?
Yes. They can. They will check this through CCRIS and they can even see your mortgage, hire purchase and personal loan information too (if there is any).

My experience with GSC is, the person SOMETIMES (like 1 out of 10 times) will ask for my credit card. When I am not in the mood to speak much, I will just present my card. Most of the time, I will just say forget to bring/dont know need to present/rushing for movie/already have code and get the ticket.
I always book the GSC tickets online and only show up like 30 minutes before the show starts. I never bothered to jot down my booking numbers. Instead, i just give them my mobile phone numbers and i was never asked for my credit card.

Here is the reply.

It is very much like Malaysia, just that there is a guideline on how the banks give you your credit card credit limit (complimentary credit card is the only exception).

it sounds like you r despising malaysian who work in singapore getting cc in malaysia with their SGD income. what so bothering u mister? i applied malaysia cc when i was still working in malaysia and it is based on my income in malaysia. and now 1+ year over, i think i have ability to get a better CL and due to the exchange rate, if i am to buy a SGD$1.6k laptop but my cc only gave me RM3k, is it wrong that i think of increasing CL to avoid any inconvenience??
Can you get a SG credit card or not ? As Hye and a few others suggested, since you are going to spend mostly in SGD, it would be advisable that you get a SG credit card instead to save on the foreign exchange rate which can translate into a huge savings in the long run.

QUOTE(milentechie @ Mar 10 2011, 03:04 PM)

No ill feeling here.

QUOTE(tzeling @ Mar 10 2011, 03:42 PM)
am wondering how come there is this promo whereby HSBC staff called me up for free 1 yr annual waiver and even FREE GST for HSBC Gold Master? (for new application) but this promo is not shown online and the CS also don't really knw about it
This is because HSBC has many promotions that are offered only to the select few customers that may or may not be chosen randomly. For instance, there is this ongoing 6-month 0% BT offer now but it is also only offered to some of their credit cardholders only.

QUOTE(Xai-V-iaX @ Mar 10 2011, 03:52 PM)
tongue.gif You think that will work?
I'd still say the chance is very slim. The reason being you can withdraw the money anytime and people who submit their complimentary credit cards as reference also give OCBC Bank a clue that these people do have some serious cash deposited with ABC Bank. Yet it doesn't mean OCBC will approve all their applications.

Anyway, another way of getting the OCBC Titanium MasterCard is by pledging a FD account.

i don't think it is necessarily to narrate so much, actually i need the CL increased to purchase computer in MALAYSIA dell store. ok, now i am even telling you why i need it increased. please dear pro help me  notworthy.gif
You can first request for a credit limit increase with your existing credit card issuer bank first by submitting your Singapore payslips.
