There's a few reason actually smile.gif

1) The dock has extra 8hour of juice to power up the tablet.
2) From time to time, it's nice to type on the keyboard than tapping the screen like madness when you're chatting with friends via ebuddy or facebook.
3) USB connectors! wub.gif
4) It's detachable so i can bring it with me if i want and leave it at home if i don't want tongue.gif so it's a bonus ++!
*
Your reason state is, if you don't have a laptop. That i can understand. You using it as your main working gadget.

What if you already have a laptop?

Such as?
Those who has netbooks probably won't consider the Transformer anyway  laugh.gif
For instance, AlexLai sifu has a 14 incher & Virus has a gaming rig (don't think its portable)...
The keyboard dock would be an additional feature which could really come in handy, but then of course its up to personal preference whether to get it or not..
I, for one will definitely get it  nod.gif

Mac Air, Vaio, asus eec etc.

Do you mean the portable is that it can detach the screen? That ain't portable.

Not many have detachable screens lol...
astria is right, not all laptops are as portable and cheap as the Asus Eee Pad Transformer  rclxms.gif

It's the same size and weight. Personally, I would pay more for the Transformer because it's both a tablet and a netbook.
*
It still comeback to this question. Why you need a netbook look alike pad. aka transformer. When you already have a laptop. Why not just the pad without the docking useless keyboard+battery. hmm.gif

It's not useless when you consider that it has USB ports, extended battery and a physical keyboard. Once you use a tablet, you will know how annoying it is to type something out on a flat surface virtual keyboard. The pad itself is not that worth it when the retail price is RM1498, I would rather import it. The combo itself is since we are only paying an extra RM301 for it compared to 149 USD.

My laptop is there for work and other heavier tasks, but when I wanna go mobile, it's still heavy and the battery life is abysmal.
*
In what situation you want to use your transfomer? Are you carry it together with the docking anywhere? If you carry it together, what different with carry your laptop? hmm.gif

You not typing few pages of word on your pad. That you leave it to your laptop do the job.

The USB port is usefull. But not to extend the cost and got to carry it with additional weight.

Not sure the pad is worth, but if the spec is good?

Will be using it in lectures for notes and also travelling. Yeah will be carrying the tab+dock together. I always carry my laptop around and the weight difference of almost 1kg makes a lot of difference. I do type pages for reports and also some reviews when I'm free at my campus and I'm quite lazy if you ask me to bring my power adapter along since it adds another few hundred grams to the total weight I carry.

You can't really run far from the specs. But this is by far the cheapest Tegra 2 powered tablet in the market now.
*
So this transformer is your netbook/laptop and not a pad to you. hmm.gif

my laptop 18 inch, hard to carry everywhere bro  icon_rolleyes.gif

for me, its useful when traveling : on the go, just bring the pad + camera, back to hotel use the dock, update blog + upload pic from camera  rclxm9.gif
without bring my 18 inch laptop !! brows.gif

I have experience with your situation. But no need dock at all. It more easy to carry just the pad.

my experience with Galaxy Tab, is that it's heaps lighter than carrying a laptop, while offering much more screen estates to read documents and websites than a smartphone...

top that off with integrated 3G modem and u can literally access the Internet as and when u like it...

the dock itself is really up to u... personally i would really like to ve it... the virtual keyboard can be a pain in the ass to type even if u re juz giving a short reply in forums... granted there are alternatives like Swype, but i dun really like it... and u can juz detach it and leave it in ur bag while using only the tablet alone

the dock has additional features like full USB ports, extra battery and 5-in-1 card reader, which imho ss Asus' attempt to make it more netbook like...

Transformer is designed to replace a netbook if u ask me... for a start Asus has a full office productivity suite pre-installed in it...

I don't see any difficult typing on the pad. Just spaming a few word in LY here is easy with just the pad. smile.gif As long as not typing a few pages words.

So far my experience, when I at home, most of the time is using laptop. If at the bed, than the pad. In ths situation, the dock is really useless.

If going out for a breakfast or coffee, just bring the pad. Sit down having my coffee while surf/video/read on my pad. thumbup.gif If feel like spam at here, just type a few word. Again, in this situation, the dock is useless.

cloud is the trend now... computers are getting more and more redundant now...

With the limited storage, cost and slow broken Network, how practical to use? It is frustrated when you can't get your file when need it. It very well much depend on the network which are still unreliable now. At least for our country.

but cloud storage is disaster proof. Actually my plan is to backup only long-term data on the cloud.. not the type of data that you would need everyday
*
When kena hack, that is disaster. When you get a lot of spam mail, you know your data in the cloud get compromise.

on a consumer level, yeah it's pretty limited right now... but on the flip side, u dun ve to worry abt things like maintaining ur data, back ups etc...

cloud has been around us for a long time... web mail is the simplest form...  smartphone is combining all the cloud services into 1 place... things like Google Music, Google Maps, Evernote, Google Cloud Printing, all these make full use of cloud computing... and iCloud pushed it to another level...

as broadband gets cheaper u will get to benefit from it...

Actually I m using and experience similiar cloud thing for few yrs already. I would said it is good and sometime frustrate too when you can't access and time consume for upload/dowmload.

For few yrs using, my experience, I still keep my data to pendrive and treat cloud as backup only. I can't rely on it specially when away working. The good is I can share my video, picture etc with my friend and family. They can write comment, leave message and blog on my storage. Another good about my own cloud is I have 6tb storage free. smile.gif
