Cant wait to see what specs the D800 has.

SSY22 , D7000 would be a great choice , if u have DX lens now. If not , go straight for the D700 or wait for the D800. That time will have alot of ppl selling off their D700

yeah d700 is expensive. what i did last time was i sold my d90 and 18-200 to exchange for d700. luckily i still had my 35-70mm f2.8 lens to use back then. bought for very cheap and when i sold if off, i even made a few hundred, to help compensate for the other purchases. i did that for my 80-200mm as well. so i'm quite lucky in that aspect.

24-70 is calling out for you already !

my recommendation for your needs is to get the 16-35mm lens. since you mentioned you like to get a walkabout lens as well as to take some landscape and food pics. the best option is to get the 16-35 F4. It has VR and it's good for using it now on your d7k as a walkabout as well as landscape lens. the 14-24 is a great lens but it's heavier as well as not being able to put your nd, cpl filter on it, unless you use those expensive lee filters la

btw kent, how's the performance of the 70-300 VR lens ??

gear very heavy is like that lo. nowadays i go out also take out the BG and just use the 50 1.4G for street photography & walkabout lens. too heavy the shoulders can die wei..

btw, any tripod to recommend ? got to upgrade mine already cos gears too heavy now.

lol BKT function! i used it before when i went to Port Dickson last time. handheld HDR

for sure not sharp and weird coloring but it's hdr and how i like it

BKT means u take the same pic but all with different exposure, then go back to the PC to combine the pics to make it
into HDR

yeah the d5100 has the inbuilt HDR function but i dont know how that works.
whether u take min. of 3 shots and camera will auto process it for you or one raw format file is sufficient to do
the hdr function.
