THanks for sharing. Just watched it, was interesting, but would have been more so if there was some kind of narration. I was hoping it would be comparing the experiences of the babies in the different countries and how that related to their development. It did, do that but it would have been easier to see and understand if there had been someone explaining (or even some kind of indication of what age everything was happening at).
Nice movie overall, and if you pay close attention you can see how the different parenting practices affected the babies, however it would have been so much better with a narrator (plus that would have stopped my head from making up silly narrations towards the end such as 'American and Japanese baby go to enrichment classes... meanwhile African baby chews a stick' and 'Mongolian baby's brother got fed up and left him to the cows'). |

I saw this on Oprah.. didn't remember the exact discussion though..
This movie just highlights different ways of parenting. Things that we think are taboo hereabouts are considered okay thereabouts. Think about it, would any of you let your kid anywhere near a goat (with huge-ass horns like that some more)? Or how about letting them play with stones and sit so near an open fire? How many parents, just at the hint of an argument, intervenes on behalf of their kids instead of letting them sort things out themselves? Eye-opening to me.. |
