Hmmm.. ur car knocking? U sure? Car all still stock right? no hi-comp pistons right? Maybe ur firing timing not accurate enuf.. Go to COSE to complaint and they will reset and tune ur ECU for u.. If need to use ron97 means god bless you and your wallet.

LOL.. Thought u did some piston mods.. If stock means running ron95 is perfectly allright. In fact almost all the members here run on ron95.. no problems faced at all..
Mb its IAFM too.. Cos my car have the same sound like Xandras and its been diagnosed as IAFM problem.I went to 2 more other SC and both them confirmed its IAFM problem also..

Is the noise constant? Or does it only present itself when u r accelerating?

It's completely possible as I've watched how they remove the IAFM n install a new one for me. It's just an intake manifold n it's possible to pasang to original campro head.

Trend Point, yes. I've put it under review cos last time they gave me some really bad experience. Perhaps they realized how they would lose customers by being asses, so now they're being less an ass than they used to be.

LOL... Cos this girl not bad mah.. CKT somemore.. got the feminine essence (nv ren wei).. Today she sat my car time she was super impressed by the power and smoothness.. Go up the bridge all no need to drop gear can tarik ( cos my car like samwong said the firmware a bit different, it holds on to that gear when going uphill and it wont upshift no matter how much u try if ur rev is dropping fast).. So i want fast fast help her.. Then can ask her out ady..

BMW quality.. hehe.. If u always Fnf try to use Caltex, helps u save petrol.. If u are very light footed, use Petronas.. Save FC until u go mad..

IAFM problem. The sound is more obvious & louder during cold starts.

Possible. How many times u tried to start ur engine anyway?

If you have ever experienced sounds (tak tak tak tak tak) coming from your engine during cold start in the morning, then it MAY BE one of the infamous Proton's manufacturing defect: the IAFM problem. IAFM noise is most noticeable during cold start, and you may hear the frequency of the noise going up or down depending on the RPM that the engine is running at. The noise is identical to a diesel truck or lorry's engine idling noise. Once the engine has warmed up, the noise will become softer or totally eliminated. This is because the plastic components on one of the valves on IAFM expands with heat.

So far the problems that may be associated with IAFM noise are nothing major, but in certain cases it may cause severe throttle lag, and the noise may get louder over time. Some owners have even experienced increase in fuel consumption and bad engine response.

If you visit the service centre and the mechanic or service attendant tells you that the noise is not caused by IAFM as our Persona Elegance comes with new batch of IAFM modules, DO NOT believe what they said.

You may:
1.) Ask them to diagnose and tell you what exactly is the problem since they insisted that it's not IAFM module noise.
2.) If the mechanics at CoSE tell you that the noise is not caused by IAFM, go to a few different SCs, have them to check your IAFM module for imperfections on the valve, then get them to write a report each. Compile these reports & bring it to CoSE's customer service and file a complaint, give it to their higher authority.

Now, do remember that they may not be able to figure the noise out if you send your car to SC as the engine has already warmed up. Park your car and leave it there for an hour or so for the engine to cool down, then get the service attendant or mechanic to listen to the noise as you start the engine.

Again, I would like to stress on this main point as I've experienced this myself and wasted almost a month plus before sending it to a different SC just to have the noise diagnosed as IAFM problem; If the guys at CoSE tells you that it's not IAFM problem but your guts and 13 other SCs tell u that it is, then it IS IAFM problem. In my case they never even bothered to check as the engine has already warmed up and the sound was gone when the mechanic laid his hands on my car.

This serves as an important announcement to all Persona Elegance (PE) owners as to not overlook this small issue that may lead to greater problems in the future. The price of IAFM modules has dropped since year 2009 (from RM 1200+ in late 2008 to RM 2xx in 2011) because of the frequency of Campro IAFM engines having this problem. Still, it's our right to claim the IAFM modules as they are covered under warranty and malfunctioned units are manufacturing defects. We should not wait till the warranty period is over and then pay them RM300+ including labour to fix a defect that is there from day 1 of ownership of the car itself.

I hope all the Persona Elegance owners out there take note of this issue and do not keep an eye closed.
