is the hdd very important ?
or he just need the content ?
you may as well upload the content to a file hosting site and ask him download from there.

i always send things to my brother in nagoya thru poslaju, reliable and cheap. if you are thinking of other cheaper options, fedex and ups will be the last thing to ask, u can try to send it using ground transport at post office, its cheaper but will take some time to arrive

If u don't care about price.. Fedex is more reliable.. but price more expensive la.. lol...

If u want cheap then can try Pos daftar or E-Parcel but it takes longer time to arrive + the tracking number is kinda useless as u cannot track once the item is sent out from Malaysia.

So Poslaju is still the best choice for now. Rm56 is not expensive though... Safe and u can track your parcel all the way until your bro receive the parcel
