Credit Cards Chartis Purchase Protection Plan, a scam ? need help

Hi all, need advice . On 25 March 2011 i received a sms from 62002 . QUOTE Your mastercard now comes with complimentary 12mths Purchase Protection up to Rm7500. Details@ www.freeppp.my. to reject, type MC<space>NO and send to 36660 immediately i call the maybank credit card support and ask them if they involve in this protection plan. They say there is no such protection plan from maybank. They ask me dont even reply and ignore that sms. Today, 29 March 2011 4:08PM QUOTE Your mastercard free 12mnths purchase protection plan underwritten by chartis malaysia will be effective from 010411. for t&c pls visit www.freeppp.my i went to www.freeppp.my and website not exist. i googled chartis and i found that chartis is an insurance company http://www.chartisinsurance.com.my/Chartis/index.jspi googled again , and i found this http://www.alantanblog.com/to-do/purchase-...ardholders.htmlwhat should i do guys? it is a scam? really really need advice . thanks This post has been edited by rambelpad: Mar 29 2011, 04:53 PM

This is real from Chartis but as far as I know you need to manually register via sms to activate the policy. First time I heard they send sms asking for activation instead.

I did receive a sms than informed me that MC (or was it Direct Access, can't remember) providing protection plan for their cardmembers some time last year thru chartis. But when chartis called me, I just told them I not interested as I do not like deal over the phone with people I cannot confirm are genuine.
Chartis also called me once claiming they are EON Bank offering some insurance plan few months back. Gave them a piece of my mind as I knew it wasn't EON bank that called me.
Anyway, if you are buying insurance policy offered with a particular credit card, please take note if a insurance plan was jointly promoted with the card issuer and the insurance policy, you may have problem transferring the premium payments to another card should you want to cancel the credit card .

i subscribed once and found out its sounds stupid for purchasing something through telemarketing then immediately terminate after getting a proper coverage with Pru.
