I dont think I'll be updating this post again... seems a lot of forumer think this post is CRAP. And a lot of forumer think I just give my facts without referring.. I as much as possible will read some other sources before I put my thoughts in this post...
I dont mind being corrected, because definitely to err is human, but comment like "Dude, do your reseach, the whole world is bigger than your head" is extremely rude... why people just don't comment like.. eh, your fact here is wrong, u should read this *source*" is better.. The language bambuing, the comment was understandable, because yeah, I choose not to write in proper english or melayu...
Anyway, last two question I'll answer as some of the forumer ask and this a very good question..
I'll just rephrase his question...
Why do you choose 51" 3DTV plasma HD ready, and not 42/43 plasma HD ready... And since Full HD 40 LED TV is reasonable, should I go for that?
Hmmm, to tell the truth, since 3D TV is still consider in its infancy (well to me at least), I dont actually want to put a lot of money into it... I really want a 3D TV. Initially, I wanted to buy the 43" samsung PS43D490.. What stop me is simple, the samsung 3Dtv doesnt actually has a native 16:9 resolution as the pixel count for this TV is 1024 X 768. If this TV uses the proper pixel size, the native resolution should be 4:3. But again, they have design the pixel in a bit different using rectangular pixel shape.
To compensate with this design, the TV processor has to scale and interpolate the images to fit a 16:9/4:3 ratio. Does this additional computation effect the image we view... Yes, definitely (but to know more detail, just find a thread under the avforums link and search it post)
Whereas, the PS51D490, has a proper 16:9 native ratio with 1360 X 768. In this instance, the TV processor only require to rescale the pictures...
With regard to LED, since additional features i intend to use is 3D viewing and currently, LED 3DTV does not actually gives a very good motion rate for the images transition... Currently plasma has a very good motion rate and response time. Before I purchase my TV, i manage to test a few LED TV, as samsung 55" series 9, UA55C9000 which claim to have a motion rate of 16X50hz = 800hz (but again, all this 100Hz, 200Hz, is marketing gimmick, to know more just google HDguru + motion rate). Surprisingly, this TV suffers from "ghosting" (technical term is "crosstalk") where u can actually see a double layer image (If you want to test ghosting of the 3DTV, just ask the salesperson to play the SONY 3D demo mix video, play the F1 racing video). Most of my friend notice the ghosting effect, even the salesperson agreed with us... Plasma TV has ghosting as well in the video, but is unnoticeable.. you only notice it if you look really hard for the effect. Sorry cause I could do more technical review on it (its a pity cause I already downloaded the crosstalk motion calibration video)
So, my say, if you play that video and notice the ghosting, perhaps it's not a good idea to get the LED TV...
Should I get a plasma or should I get a LCD/LED TV?
The answer is simple, if you can properly control the lighting of the room and have time to do a controlled break-in, get a plasma. Plasma is way2 better compared to LED and LCD. The colour is richer, field of view, much2 better. But it just my regrets that plasma for 42" does not come with a proper 16:9 ratio...
And since I think plasma is good, most people do wonder, why people just dont get a plasma TV... Well, actually some other forumer ask me this as well. Again, it goes back to basic of plasma tv operation and contruction...
Why I answer, properly control the lighting,
i. Cause the burning question for first time plasma user, it whether the plasma screen give a lot of reflection and glare???? Issues or non issues, manageable or not??? Well another point to ponder, most high end LCD/LED has a glossy panel, some manufacturer called it ultra clear panel. If its glossy, should it have reflection and glaring as well????
Why I answer, controlled break in
ii. If you talk to the shopowner, mostly they will answer, plasma does not require break-in... Imagine, if i sell a car and told you, for the first 1000km, dont run your car more than 50km/h, will you buy it??? So, truth or myth??? marketing gimmick... hmm, interesting
All this answer is out there. just be patient in finding them.
Just to let you know. Bought my first plasma Samsung PS51D490.... A lot of issues I consider when I bought this TV and sharing in for other plasma user also. Hopefully we can share our experience. I bought this TV because I wanna play 3d game... Previously play 3d games in PC monitor.. I like 3D gaming a lot...
Dalam post ni is my thought and opinion. kalau nak bambu, boleh, but jangan la kao2.. kekkeke
Why I buy 3D now... tak nak tunggu ke glassless 3D.. bukan ke best Glassless lagi best...
I'm used to 3D viewing because I play a quick a numer of 3d games in my PC... So i really like 3d gaming. So, the question is, why I buy a 3dtv now... pasal pe bukan last year ke. atau pasal pe tak nak tunggu lagi 10tahun untuk glassless 3d yg okie... Hang tak risau ke, 3dTV with glasses ni akan extinct???
Ok.. first I feel, 3dtv with glasses ni will stay for a very long time. Why, to me is simple, because this technology make the viewer feel that they are in the scene... the 3d feel like just in front of you, and sometimes, you feel you can actually touches the images.. tak best ke.. best la tu... When I watch 3d movie like resident evil: afterlife, the the main heroine throw the knives to the screen, the knives is like flying out from the scene... Syok.. syok.. so far, this the only technology yg give u that kind of experience...
Berbaloi ke 3DTV beli sekarang..
well.. me talk about our environment in malaysia...
kalau u beli 3dtv for gaming... I think berbaloi... sebab nowadays. PS3 banyak ada 3D game.. And kalau u pernah main first person shooter (FPS)in 3D.. you definitely dont want to play in 2d anymore.. 3D games yg work well, is 3d games which can give you first person perspective.. FPS is one of them, racing games such as Motorstorm Apocalypse also a very good game. Other games like isometric view and third person (some third person are good) like batman: arkham asylum for me tak best.. same thing like u watch aquarium.. u dont feel like you in the game...
kalau u nak beli for movies and watch 3d shows... then its not a good idea. Why.. kat sini mana ada 3d channel... nak harapkan movie... if me tak silap blu-ray 3d title pun tak sampai 10.. takkan la nak tengok monster vs alien 20kali...
But good thing is we have internet.. Boleh cari 3d content.. but again,, tak banyak..
3DTV without glasses. I think, this technology will be available. But not so soon. Anyway, Samsung point of view on this tech is that it is can be made reliable and consumer friendly after perhaps 10years.. You can read it here
http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/03/23/...g-anytime-soon/
My experience, with glassless 3d tv is not much la... is only from nintendo 3ds with super street fighter game... the first time i watch it, i say.. okie la... with this technology and playing and viewing super street fighter 4 is like seeing an aquarium.. u see like 2 little people fighting in an aquarium... the images does not pop out... in a way, the screen is like the aquarium wall.. so.. how to pop out.. cannot laaa..
Myth of Fact about plasma when I buying the TV was
Full HD or HD ready.. penting ke...
Okie.. just to let you know, I still have another 2 lcd tv kat rumah... both Full HD.. my friend cakap me is full HD freak.. kalau tak Full HD... jangan sembang ngan me, talk to my hand... sombong betul..
My friend on the other hand is a plasma freak and says.. Full HD gimmick je... my friend always ask me whether I can really see the full HD and HD ready different.. (this one me tak nak jawab, cause i'm a full HD freak.. kakakak.. so you know my answer....)
Anyway.. i read this article kat internet regarding full HD lcd and led...
http://hdguru.com/will-you-see-all-the-hdt...-exclusive/287/
After I baca, I told my self.. Tipah Tertipu.. adui.. But anyway, i'm still full HD freak... wateva...
- Plasma reflection and glaring... Boleh ke tengok tv ni kat rumah yang natural light banyak. Nanti silau.. macam mana nak tengok.. This one i need to keep this open for a while sebab me tak test lagi.. so tak leh comment.. hehehe
So this what I bought... Less than 5k.. Ada 2 3D glasses.. kalau 1, orang rumah nak buat pe lak? Tengok me senyum kambing while me tengok 3d movie ke... Jawabnye tido ngan tv la..
Manufacturer: Samsung
Model: PS51D490
Bought: Mar 2011
Me tak dapat lagi the 3d glasses.. so tak plan nak guna tv ni lagi.. so while waiting for the spec, me amik opportunity to break-in the plasma TV...
Why me break-in.. this one me listen to my plasma friend freak since dia ada 2 plasma..
When he first bought a plasma TV he never break-in, and he mention to me that his first plasma tv senang nak dapat image retention... the second (newer) plasma tv he buat break-in and he say, he very rare have the image retention... his fist unit dah ada the black border boundaries cause always watch in 4:3 standard view.. the newer one,, the black bar boundaries tak pernah nampak.. and another thing to let know, he never uses the burn-in protection on pixel-shifting.. only the light border protection enable... Me listen to his story, of course la.. tak caya... but luckily i manage to found this two interesting articles..

After the hundred-hour break-in period, during the next nine-hundred hours:
1. Continue to retain the picture setting at 50% or less.
2. Limit the use of 4:3 aspect ratio mode (traditional picture size that does not fill the entire screen) to 15% of viewing time.
3. Limit the use of static images (computer, video games, etc.) to less than 10% of viewing time.
Mak datuk.. point number 1 tu me tak tahan.. basically it says for the first 1000hrs.. dont exceed the picture setting more than 50%... 1000hrs = 41days++ if you watch the tv continously.. or under normal viewing (me amik 8hrs a day) = 125 days = 4months ++... woit.. orang beli tv nak tengok tv la.. takkan for the first 4 months tengok our reflection kot... (i think less than 50% picture setting, confirm u can easily nampak ur reflection, unless u live in a very dark places la.. macam gua)...
Luckily got people like him.. buat break-in images and motion... here is the link
http://www.eaprogramming.com/downloads/download_main.htm
from this link it can link to avsforum and people can learn more about plasma break-in
check here also its here http://allhighdef.com/2011/01/05/general-p...k-in-procedure/
So, whats the break-in images.. it just a full blown picture of white, red, green, and blue color with different steps of gradient.. The pic got 20images..
I run the break in images using my media player, just run it under slide show.. each picture have 20sec showtime,, one complete cycle is 400s = 6min++. If takde media player, just use a USB stick and stick it to the TV.. nowadays, most TV can view pictures.. just need to make sure that all the images cover the screen.. nanti me amik gambar
My break-in setting (will update a bit more once I got back to reverify the parameter and add a bit more details)
Two Picture setting
1. 3/4 Brigtness and Contrast
Cell Brightness: 15%
Contrast: 75%
Brighness: 75%
2. Maximum picture setting
Cell Brightness: 20%
Contrast: 100%
Brighness: 100%
My break-in procedure (assuming start monday). This is what I'm planning to do
First Day:
i. First 2hours set to 3/4 Brigtness and Contrast
ii. Rest one hour, run the TV for 1hr brighness 100, contrast 100, and cell 20. Continue next day
2nd, 3rd and 4th day:
i. Run the tv under Maximum picture setting for 3hrs (7pm start)
ii. Rest one hour, run the TV for 8hr brighness 75, contrast 75, and cell 15. (11pm start, tidur, wake-up tutup TV)
5th day
i. Run the tv using brighness 75, contrast 75, and cell 15 for 24hrs (7pm start)
6th day
i. Run the tv using brighness 100, contrast 100, and cell 20 for 18hrs (10pm start)
Sunday malam boleh start tengok tv.. yay.. heheheh .. first movie plan nak tengok... resident evil: afterlife.. hopefully i manage to finish downloading it... hehehe
After the break-in finish, I will continue to run the break-in for another 3months(ie after finish normal viewing), with max picture setting for 3hrs.. luckily the TV got timer function.. heheheh. Will do it just before I go to bed.
Next on the list.. plasma TV... good or no good. hopefully tak regret le...
F.A.Q
Some f.a.q. (frequently asked question) me letak kat bawah since some of the request some additional info... Oh yeah.. me bukan pro.. semi-pro pun bukan... biasa2 je... but since me dah cari the info kat internet.. me share la.. ni my personal opinion je..
WHAT IS BREAK-IN
Break in is very simple... it just that a procedure or way of use yang we guna untuk pastikan our equipment tak dapat premature damage... semua benda kita beli kena ada break-in.. contoh kalau beli kereta.. the car manufacturer or the manual, mesti sound for the first 10000km engine running period, RPM jangan lebih 4000rpm.. contoh la...
So, plasma TV also sama... But we try to be specific sikit... we look into how plasma tv works... kat sini...
http://www.plasmatvscience.org/theinnerworkings.html
Senang cerita, the magic ingredient for plasma which gives us the colour is the phosphor coated screen. Macam biasa, phosphor ni ikut colour red, green, blue, ni kan warna asas... kalau semua phosphor ni excited or energized, dapat la warna putih... (satu pixel of the plasma screen ada = red smaller pixel, green smaller pixel, blue smaller pixel).. Some info; kalau tv tu ada resolution 1360 X 768 pixels = 1044480 pixels.. sebab satu pixel tu ada 3 smaller pixel, total pixel ialah 3133440.. fuiyo.. banyak nyeeeee)
Okie... apa yg kena nak break-in ialah the phosphur screen... sebab everytime kita excited/energized the phosphur, the phosphur terbakar la sikit... we break-in untuk pastikan phosphur kat plasma screen terbakar secara seragam..
Nak tau lagi banyak.. tengok le sini
http://samsungplasmatvfaq.com/index.php/Br...image_retention
Ada dua method break-in untuk plasma TV (2 BREAK-IN METHODS for PLASMA TV)
Cara biasa ialah "UNCONTROLLED BREAK-IN". ye lah, uncontrol sebab apa yg kita tengok kat tv mana boleh control... takkan la kita nak call astro and rtm and cakap "Untuk 2 hari ni jangan letak logo starworld kat TV.. me tengah nak break-in my new tv..." hehhe
For this method, manufacturer recommend, dont exceed the contrast to more than 50%.. why pasal less the contrast, less energy is used in exciting/energizing the phosphor screen. So, the phosphur burn more gradual and slowly... Tapi kena buat 1000hrs.. tu yang tak tahan...
Another method, is CONTROLLED BREAK-IN. We called this Controlled break-in sebab the user yg set in how to burn the phosphur screen.. what colour to burn, what the energy level (in a way la.. by setting the contrast and cell brightness).
Kalau perasan, the BREAK-IN images ada 4 prevailing colours, WHITE, RED, GREEN and BLUE. and then setiap warna ada 5-step-down gradient.... back to basic of pixel.... all pixel ada RGB, smaller pixel..
First break-in IMAGE is white.. so basically what happen is we energized the whole pixel, so semua smaller pixel red, green and blue excited... give many heat, and then ada 4-step-down gradient untuk reduce the heat/energy for the pixel.. in a away, i say.. give 100% energy, lepas tu 80% energy, lepas tu 60% energy, sampai 20%energy for the pixel..
After that come the RED images... so this time we only energy or heated up the red smaller pixel. yg green and blue, lepak je.... n macam biasa we buat the 4step-down gradient...
If we do the controlled break-in basically, the whole phosphur screen akan burn secara seragam...
MANUFACTURER MANUAL QUOTED FIRST 1000hrs kena break in... PASAL pe kalau we buat controlled break-in tengok internet only 100hrs continuous.. BETUL KE NI...?
Well, secara logik.. manufacturer when recommended the 1000hrs, it assume that the user tengok tv pakai only 50% of contrast and energy and on and off state (kejap tutup dan kejap bukak, ye la kan, mana ada orang tengok tv continuous 1000hrs, paling terrer 12jam kot, masa lain nak tido leeee. basically u can say its half energy. When we buat controlled break in, we use 75% to 100% of contrast... Thats why duration jadi kurang
For info, me tak buat 100hrs continuous break-in, kadang2 tutup la.. so,, me plan to do more than 100hrs.. first one week, buat controlled break-in.. after that, only buat controlled break-in for 3hrs for 3months...
kalau nak tau other method, cari je kat internet...
