sony bdv-e370 is a home theater system, >2k isn't it? the player is a blu-ray player if not mistaken.
most blu-ray players load dvd faster and can handle more formats than normal dvd player whether disc or usb.
of course, dvd players are much cheaper, so depends on yr budget.

check lg-samsung-jvc bluray players, these may suit yr needs, price around 1k.
some older ones can play bluray, mp4, avi, mkv up to 1080p - as long as it fits into a max 4.4gb dvd or a max 4.0gb file in a fat32 formatted drive.
i think some newer models may be able to handle bigger files in ntfs format, resembling a media player.
one frustrating thing at the shops - most of them do not know their products well, so you need to take yr own stuff there to try! biggrin.gif

haven't bot a dvd player in a long time but i suspect the newer ones should have more and updated codecs to read faster.
i would think mp3 and avi will be no problem. mp4 is the tricky one, i believe.
you can read the formats playable printed on the box or the payer itself but sometimes can be misleading e.g. avi can come in many forms too!
best to test at shops - suggest you check pioneer, lg and samsung in this regard.

TS gf bough MECK dvd player. From the brand itself, we know that it is not that durable and it is not a good player.

Next time, get a reliable brand like sony, panasonic, samsung etc.

This is malaysia, all dvd players are region free.. it can play ori and pirate. Even if there's

That model is considered very good already. It got all the latest tech like other dvd players like
-1080 upscaling
-divx playback
-got usb slots (u need to refer to it's manual to see what audio/video format can be played via usb)

Overall...
it's a MUST BUY item smile.gif

Woaa.. you seems really committed in getting the best among the best .. thumbup.gif
unfortunately, the term "best" depends on individual perception. It may be best for one
person but may not be the best for another person.

Here's a guide
- You can't go wrong with sony - samsung - pioneer - etc
- Most of the time, the more expensive, the better it is. So, logit83, just grab the most
expensive dvd player you can afford.. I'm sure you'll satisfy.

Good luck.

a satisfied philips robust HTS-3366 user here.
but unfortunately want to buy another one due to cosmetic and appreance.
sound bars look nice but dont have the kick.

TS, my advice is, buy thing that last. dont buy same thing twice.unless because of temptation. not durability. blush.gif

Yalo, if budget RM 300 for a DVD player.

How about add-on RM99, you can get Samsung BD-C5500 Blu-ray player at price of RM 399 or may even cheaper.

This Blu-ray playback not only can playback BD, it also can playback DVD (upscale to 1080p) and also HD quality (720p or 1080p) MKV file.

------------------------------------------------------

If you insist must get DVD player, then with such budget, remember get a decent HDMI - Upscale 1080p DVD player.

It is true that most BD players cannot play VCD (or can play with limited functions) but based on the user manuals, both the Philips BDP3100 and BDP2700 specfically mention VCD as playable. I don't own any of these Philips BD players so cannot test for you, maybe owners of these models can confirm this. Definitely better to buy BD player since these models can get for about RM350 during offers and most branded DVD players with HDMI out cost around RM299.
