1. Brand -- Ideally 'renowened' brand like htc, samsung
2. Budget -- max is 2.3k. lower is better
3. Specs -- faster is better (see what i will use the phone for...)

4. What you need in the phone:
* MUST HAVE: 3G video calls (not those using apps)
* MUST HAVE: Good & fast camera and video to capture the moments -- especially kids (the run around and hard to get them to stay still).
* 1080p video recording would be nice.
* nice to have flash on the phone (unless it can also take good low light photos without flash)
* gorilla glass would be nice
* play some games like angry birds
* twitter (i know its more an apps, but just stating what i wanna have)
* read news and surf web (smartphones can do all these, i know)
* wifi hotspot (pair with tablets -- so need it to me infrastructure mode, not ad-hoc)

currently using SE k618i. it's a dumbphone (as opposed to smartphone). can't do surfing, etc... but it fulfils my MUST HAVEs.

TIA.
*
sgs II fits all your needs. Sensation has faster camera but does not make video calls out of the box.

oh ya... sorry, forgot to add. sgs2's been on top of my list. i wanted to wait for sme unit but it would seem like the launch gets 'delayed'... latest news is now only launching in jul/ aug.

dun think my current se k618i can last that long. it's now always on life support (charging). not charged, i'm only getting a max of 10mins talk time.

since there's no official launch and i dun think maxis will come up with a super offer (seeing how they tend to make the phones under their promo so UN attractive), i figured its time to look for something else...

i guess i might have to ask the sensation pros if there's a way to 'fix' the video call thingy. the other party i call using video call does not have a smart phone. so installing apps is really, really out of the Q.

but many thanks for your quick reply.
*
I don't think there's a fix for it so far. Other htc phones with front camera also can't do it. sweat.gif why wanna wait for sme set though? The prices of ap sets fits right into your budget smile.gif

Google talk doesn't require the other person to use it too?

well, i just need to get older model that fits budget. use Gtalk instead of 3g video calls.

probably now wanna check and see what is available with my revised requirements... and focus on good camera recording (stills and videos). then problem solved. smile.gif

but maxis plan is super expensive! digi smart plan... rm68/mth. 'unlimited' some more.
*

Well since gtalk doesn't require the other phone to have it i think you can get the sensation now no? + its camera supposedly to capture pic the instant you press the button. I'm sure the sensation will have roms up to 2.3.4 and HTC will definitely update it for at least another year due to the sensation being a flagship phone.

its my 1st time looking for android phone, so im not really sure about others spec. Maybe the performance of the phone (UI?).
both are large screen.  But which have better screen?
*
Performance wise the Sensation would run circles around the arc thanks to its duo core proc. wink.gif htc sense is also one of the better UIs to come with an android phone. If camera the arc would have an advantage in low light situations but based on reviews the sensation does have a decent camera. If you need faster capture and 1080p recording then the sensation wins. Design wise the arc is definitely the more beautiful to look at andits thinner too.

1. HTC Desire S or Samsung Galaxy S.
2. I found a shop selling both for RM1200.
3. Spec-wise, both are quite similar.
4. for requirements, please refer below.

What i like on HTC Desire S:
i) aluminium body
ii) htc sense
iii) official gingerbread firmware out of the box

What i like on Samsung Galaxy S:
i) 4" super AMOLED
ii) slim profile
iii) built in storage

What i dislike on HTC Desire S:
i) wifi death grip issue
ii) 3.7" screen is probably a bit small for me

What i dislike on Samsung Galaxy S:
i) cheap plastic body
ii) no camera flash

So, i would like to ask for your kind opinions on which is better.
And i would also like to know if the thing that i likes and dislikes, will or will not have a major effect on my experiences with both phones.
Thank you. notworthy.gif

I'd say go for the SGS. Built quality isn't really a problem IMO unless you really feel it is. The camera flash issue isn't a big deal unless you really need it. You can refer to this thread to see pics taken by the sgs http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=1502439&hl= . About the death grip, i think its an exaggerated issue to be honest. One thing to note about the sgs if you do get it is be prepared to root and flash custom roms to take full advantage of the phone because out of the box it just plain lags. Desire S would be a better choice if you're not into rooting and flashing.

Hello , anyone know what is the market price for SGS ori now? i've check in front page and garage sales.. the price is around 1800.
is it possible to get it with 1600+?

coz my budget is only around that.

one more ques, since SGS is upgrading to 2.3 soon. Does it means that it has flash now? and have the GPS issue fixed?
*
SGS has had flash since 2.2 . About the GPS issue you should try asking in the SGS thread.

Budget: max rm1200
OS: Android
Size: I dont want something too big. Not something thats alot bigger than the ip4 which seems quite big to me already. and thinner is better
Ive taken note of galaxy sl, desire and huawei x5. although they seem to be alot bigger than the ip4. wfs dosent get good reviews too
so what are your suggestions?
*
The desire is not really that much bigger than the ip4 its just slightly thicker. Have you compared them side by side? To be honest the desire fits the hand better cause it has a curved back when holding the ip4 it feels like it could just slip off my hand at anytime. Can't comment on the huawei and galaxy sl though as I've never seen them in real life before. Hope this helped icon_rolleyes.gif

ok how about between desire, desire s and galaxy s and sl or others in terms of performance etc? confused between them.
*
The desire S is basically a slightly upgraded version of the original desire so I'd get that if its still within your budget. Performance wise if you want to tinker with your phone then go for the sgs or desire. IINM desire s is not rooted yet but its a good choice if you like your phone working out of the box. Sgs sl is a stripped down version of the sgs without super amoled and smaller internal memory. It should be about the same as the sgs. Between the four I'd say desire S and the sgs would have the best performance.

i have htc desire (unrooted) and iconia a500 (unrooted). just wonder which phone is better/worth the money to buy compared to my htc desire?

usage- calls, sms, calendar, hotspot with my iconia, not much a picture taker (already got dslr), alarm clock, fb, angry birds, maps, calc, internet... etc etc [basically the normal stuffs]

budget- between 800 to 1200

spec: better than htc desire

seen the huawei x5 and csl m410i and other new htc/SE/samsung.. so pls recommened me a few.

Thanks.
*
I doubt any of the phones you get within that price range would be a big improvement over the desire. Root it and start flashing custom roms if you're bored of it. Games wise since you have a tab it can handle all your high end gaming needs. With chainfire3D the desire doesn't even break a sweat playing Samurai Vengeance II which was optimised for tegra flex.gif and your usage is angry birds sweat.gif

Incredible S (ap) = RM1500
Sensation (ap) = RM1650 dual core dei ~

darn ... lucky I w8 ..... still have 3-4 weeks before I go buy 1 ..... was eyeing for IS ... any comment on sensation ?
*
Lots of ppl say IS screen better than sensation but imo it's better to get sensation because its duo core. More future proof. IS already kinda outdated. + if the price you say is true then it's very worth it. Rm150 for double the performance?

Hi, newfag posting for first time here. I'm looking to buy my first Android phone sometime next month. Need some recommendations.

1. HTC, Samsung, or Sony.
2. Budget is below Rm1000 (can top up a bit)
3. Any processor is fine but must not lag playing games such as Fruit Ninja. OS as long as can upgrade to Gingerbread it's fine.
4. Need camera with LED Flash, decent screen resolution, and Adobe Flash support (no Flash is also fine I'll just use the Youtube app).

I've been eyeing the HTC Wildfire S but I've read reviews saying it's processor is slow and whatnot ie; better buy older phones but with higher specs. Any help given is truly appreciated.  laugh.gif
*
Galaxy SL or huawei x5 if you don't mind the brand. Sony X10 also good. It'll have gingerbread in a few months if SE sticks to its promise. HTC DHD can get around 1.3k iinm.

looking for a new phone soon.. just asking for recommendations smile.gif

my budget : 1200-1500+ (can topup abit)

1. nice camera with flash, front camera is a plus
2. good for gaming (no xperia play)
3. nice display.. not dark

also.. what is the best/most powerful android phone u can get now? those super high end ones
*
Best would be sgs 2 which is going for about 2k. Since you mention you can top up get a htc sensation. Dual core proc, decent camera. Its about 1.6k for AP set

I'm looking at AP device. Max at 1.5k. Few choices in my mind now is SE Xperia Arc, LG Optimus 2x and HTC Sensation. biggrin.gif
*
I'd go with the Sensation. Main reason is it's duo core n prolly the next best android phone to the sgs 2. Only problem is the bootloader which hasn't been unlocked yet iinm. Once unlocked there'll be plenty of roms etc id you're into that stuff. Only reason to go with the Arc is its design + camera. Not really sure about the 2x as it's been said to have some problems but imo most of these problems can be solved.

hmm ~ thanks for your information . it help me alot.
errr mind i ask more , Screen Comparision , which is nicer ?

hmmm , i dont game more , but sometime i game.SGS main advantage is the GPU rite ?
Incredbile get my eye on the 8mp+flash.
*
Sgs has the better screen. Anyways it seems like you're already sold on the IS. Just get it and you won't regret. It's a good all rounder phone. Gaming wise it should be able to play most if not all the games the sgs can play.
